sanders and hillary clinton. while ted cruz wins the republican vote, putting donald trump in second place, with marco rubio righrt behind him. abc's lana zak is there in iowa - 3 sanders it looks like we are in a virtual tie.a razor-thin margin separates bernie sanders and hillary clinton in iowa, a race too close to call? in some precincts a coin toss broke the delegate tie-nats coin toss the clinton campaign saying this morning, they believe they won. but clinton didn't officially declare victory in her speech. instead she took on the republicans- hillary clinton: i will not -- i will not let their decisiveness, their 3 efforts to rip away the progress that we've made be successful. so as i stand here tonight, breathing a big sigh of relief, thank you, iowa//by contrast, it was a decisive win for ted cruz-ted cruz iowa had made clear to america and the world, morning has

i'm proud to be endorsing him" pattie trump flew falwell and his family to iowa to stump for him all weekend- since falwell jr. announced his private endorsement.. he's received some backlash among fellow conservatives. some have said they don't believe trump's values fall in line with true evangelicals. abc 13 caught up with falwell. and even though he's endorsing trump as a private citizen.. we asked him if this was over-stepping the lines of his postion as lu president. jerry falwell jr. "suri to jerry"is that crossing the boundary? jerry jr. no, i have every right as a private citizen to support candidates as anybody else. and i don't think i'd be a very good citizen if i didn't exercise my right to choose the best candidate to help the candidate who i believe in. that's 3 part of our duty as americans." pattie tight he says.. he's not ruling out future campaign trips with trump. 3 3

lovell. we are waiting for autospy results in her murder, but we're hearing it may be weeks before we know everything. two virginia tech students are charged in connection to her murder. this as police are turning their investigation onto the campus. pattie plasma and the virginia tech community is reeling from this news as they try to come to terms with the arrest of students, david eisenhauer and natalie keepers. priscilla kaiser has more. 3 seven divers took to the waters of duck pond on virginia tech's campusa& searching for any clues into the murder of nicole lovella& too short to cg!! heather harcum/ student 12:04:43-46 (:03): "there's definitely a damper on campus, it's something everyone's talking about." students, like senior heather harcum, are left with many questions. heather harcum/ student 12:05:00-14 (:14): "we're still kind of wondering like why it happened and how it happened, how it happened. how it went from being able to just arrest a guy to, you know, finding her body, we don't know anything that happened in between. so there's a lot of speculation right now." police arrested virginia tech students david eisenhauer and

weekend in connection with lovell's deatha&too short to cg!! nick gentile 12:26:27-30 (:03): "it's just heartbreaking to hear something like this could happen here at virginia tech." standup:we're told one of the virginia tech students arrested lived in these dorms. students say they're upset knowing they lived near someone charged in the disappearance and death of 13 year old nicole lovell.heather harcum/student: "i can't even put into words how i'm feeling right now. it's been rough." students talked about the incident with each othera& and being reminded of why they should stick together.hannah lumpkins/student: "just kind of like that reminder to stay in groups, travel in groups, always have a buddy system no matter, because you never know what could happen, what people are going through." and, students thinking about the families behind the tragedya& hannah lumpkins/student: "it's just really sad, i can't imagine both sides of the family, so yeah, i definitely think it's hard." 3 pattie plasma this is a case with a lot of moving parts. so we want to break down the timeline of nicole lovell's disappearance and murder. the teenager disappeared last wednesday.

for her. then saturday morning -- a break in the case. police arrested eisenhauer ... and charged him with abduction. they said he knew nicole lovell and used that relationship to his advantage. around 4 o'clock saturday afternoon, authorities found the 13 year old's body 80 miles away in north carolina. and on sunday.. keepers was charged as an accessory ... accused of helping eisenhauer dispose of the teen's body. 3 pattie tight stick with us this morning on good morning virginia... in the next half hour we are going to dig even deeper by taking a detailed look into what we know about those two suspect students in custody. and of course, once we get new information, we'll bring it to you on air as well as online. check our website, wset.com for updates as we find out more about what happened. you can also follow updates on our abc 13 facebook page. 3 pattie plasma a man accused of kidnapping his child is headed back to virginia to face charges. police arrested jason mardis in rapid city- south dakota last week at a local campground. in pennington county court yesterday.. he declined to get help from an appointed attorney. the

authorities 10 days to take custody of mardis or he will be freed. state social workers are arranging to return the child to the custodial parent. 3 pattie tight more than 400 feet of lumos network wires have been cut down in the alleghany county and covington area. police say anthony nicely was arrested and charged with two counts of felony destruction of property and two counts of grand larceny. police also say they arrested of jason downey in the same house.... wanted on other felony charges.pattie tight the stolen phone line carries internet and phone service to lumos network customers on route 6-8-7. 3 pattie plasma the virginia senate has narrowly rejected a measure that would have done away the state's concealed handgun permit requirement. the bill received a 20-20 vote yesterday. the vote comes a few days after governor terry mcauliffe and republican leaders announced a rare compromise on gun policy. those measures must be approved by the general assembly. 3 pattie tight the virginia house has passed the so-called king's dominion law. that lets schools start before labor day. it now

senate. the measure would remove the requirement that school start after labor day and allow local boards to set their own calendars. 3 pattie plasma some parents in amherst county are concerned after documents reveal the school board was looking into closing a school. under the 2017 budget discussions, the school board listed the pros and cons of closing pleasant view elementary. abc 13 spoke with superintendent dr. steven nichols, yesterday, who says that's not the case. dr. nichols says the paperwork was there for a board member who brought up the option. but he says the budget was written without any closings considered. 3 pattie box university officials in virginia say.. a william and mary student contracted the zika virus while traveling in central america over winter break. it's the 2nd confirmed case in virginia.nats i feel kind of shocked. pattie a spokesperson says.. the student notified the college.. and the college contacted its health and wellness team.. as well as the c-d-c. they determined there was no health risk. symptoms can include fever, headache, joint pain, or eye irritation. but

signs of the virus.suzanne seurattan william and mary spokepersonthe student is not currenlty exhibiting symptoms and they're expected to make a full recovery. pattie zika is primarily spread through mosquito bites.. and currently there is no vaccine. meanwhile the college says.. it's keeping track of the case.. and are in contact with the cdc. 3 3 pattie tight bad news on the bed bug front.... according to a new virginia tech study, bedbugs have developed a resistance to a lot of the chemicals used to treat them. the study found the insects have actually built up a tolerance to them. check out how they figured this out: researchers compared bedbugs from homes in cincinnati and michigan that had been exposed to a colony researchers kept isolated before the insecticide was used. the isolated bedbugs died when they were exposed to a very small amount of the insecticide. but the bedbugs from the other states had much higher levels of resistance. 3 pattie plasma still to come on good morning virginia... business is

the air will feel 3 extremely humid. 3 pattie box we now know the name of the man who died in a fiery crash on some train tracks in roanoke county. officials say william lineberry died at the scene of yesterday's accident. johnny collins was taken to roanoke memorial hospital with serious injuries. police say the two men were in an appalachian power work truck trying to cross spring hollow road when it was hit by a norfolk southern freight train. the train was not carrying hazardous materials. 3 pattie tight this morning we're learning more about a lynchburg teenager who died in a car accident over the weekend. police say 19- year-old cameron long died saturday morning when his car ran off the side of route 40 in gretna and overturned. long was a student at ferrum college and played basketball there two seasons. we're told he was not enrolled at the time of the crash. the assistant athletic director says the team and coaches are devastated by the loss. police say speed and alcohol were not involved - and the

investigation. ferrum plans to hold a moment of silence before their next basketball game tomorrow. 3 pattie plasma a close call for an amelia county man who almost became trapped when his house caught on fire. sunday morning, roger delp says his dad, who is blind, escaped with just minutes to spare. according to delp, his father was in a state of confusion when the house went up in flames. "he felt an intense amount of heat on his face once he opened the front door. he treated back into the house grabbed his phone and attempted to call 911.""when that failed, he realized he needed to get out of the house immediately.pattie neighbors came to his aid in the nick of time after noticing the flames. the house is a complete loss, but delp says he's thankful his dad is still alive. no word on how the fire started. 3 3 pattie plasma a pittsylvania county family is trying to rebuild after losing everything they own in a house fire. they went to church on sunday, and when they came back, the house was gone. now, the fire marshal's office is digging through the

valerie bragg reports. 3 fire investigators have their work cut out for them. this axton home was taken out by fire. the family that owned this, stopped by. sandra keatts still doesn't the strength to stand up without leaning on her truck. "it was devastating. it was like, wake up 3 and it'll be over." fire trucks at what used to be her home. (((nats- fire truck))) the wind caused a small fire to rekindle according to the fire marshal. (((nat- hose)) sandra's brother..bobby... was next door when it started. he smelled smoke. "when i came back out, there was a great big fire. i couldn't believe it." the keatts and their two grandchildren that lived with them...lost everything they've ever owned, including two cars. but they also lost something more precious... "just...the lord will have to help us." 3 pattie plasma sandra tells us they built the home about six years ago. fortunately, none of the family was at home at the time of the fire. 3 pattie tight the halifax county commonwealth's attorney isn't happy with the new courthouse plans. the proposed plan will cost taxpayers 23-million dollars over the next 30-years...but it doesn't include renovating her office. tracy quackenbush-martin says her office is just as insecure as the courthouse...and needs a lot of work. she presented the problems to the halifax county board of supervisors at last night's meeting. 3 pattie the u-s supreme court has denied a request from congressional republicans to put a new map on hold and allow the 2016 elections to

also asking the court to reverse a decision that said lawmakers in 20-12.. illegally packed black voters into the 3rd district. the court is set to hear arguments on march 21st. 3 pattie plasma governor terry mcauliffe's administration is proposing putting limitations on where the state can impose new tolls without general assembly approval. the executive branch wouldn't be able to impose tolls without lawmakers' approval. it wouldn't impact the administration's tolling plan for interstate 66 in northern virginia. several lawmakers introduced bills seeking to prohibit tolling on i-66, but state officials say that would take away funding for important transportation projects. the panel didn't take action on the proposal. 3 pattie tight another candidate is throwing his hat into the race for lynchburg's next treasurer. robert bailey announced his candidacy. bailey says, "as treasurer, i will ensure that the process is managed efficiently to maintain timely collection of payments through
