we learned a lot of the details police have been staying tight lipped about throughout this investigation including what happened in the final hours of 13-year-old nicole lovell's life. this is video of the family arriving to court. lovell's mom, tammy weeks, came to court surrounded by family members as did lovell's dad, david. they weren't the only family members in attendance. natalie keepers' mom and dad showed up and took the stand at their daughter's bond hearing. they said they were shocked when they heard of the charges their daughter is facing. keep hers mentioned 18-year-old david eisenhauer before and said when keepers needed an emergency appear pen dick me, it was eisenhauer that took her to the hospital. both the parents said they had no idea what keepers is accused of planning with eisenhauer. they say the first time they heard of it is when they heard that keepers had been arrested. both parents teared up in court when the prosecutor read a summary of what keepers told police when she was arrested. according to that statement,

i am will stafford, hung on to the clouds and a lot of rain to the south and east and a look at radar right now. seeing some clouds there and even a few breaks in the clouds out to the west. but there is where all the rain is. saw that along that boundary off toward the south and toward out east. keep the clouds around through midnight with overnight low temperatures bottoming out from the 7 to midnight time frame in the 40s. cooler in the overnight lows and real cool air comes here. more coming up. the appomattox sheriff's office is looking for leads in a drive-by shooting that happened a tuesday night at 8:35 in robinson road. investigators tell us that people were inside a house when witnesses say small gray fourwitnesses say small gray four-door vehicle drove by, firing four to five shots at the home. no one got hurt, but sheriff barry letterman tell us he can't say whether this is a random incident or not. call the appomattox sheriff's office or with any information.

their lives to heroin and prescription overdoses than traffic accidents. attorney general mark herring just discussed his plans to fight these frightening statistics at the general assembly and now the appomattox county sheriff is ramping up his efforts to deal with the problems in their own back yard. suri crowe sat down with barry letterman. suri. >> reporter: increase in drug overdose and death is weighing heavily on sheriff letterman so much so that they are asking for a dedicated drug officer to deal with the influx of drug cases in appomattox county. letterman said his current deputy forces can't keep up with the number of drug cases, so he is now asking the appomattox town council for money to hire an officer who would be solely dedicated to investigating the county drug cases. he says many of those involved in the drug game are also connected to other crimes like larceny and theft and he wants this officer to help stop that. letterman says not his intent to lock up everyone who uses

gets to sunshine as we get into the afternoon tomorrow. let's time it out here goes the boundary and area of low pressure by tomorrow morning should be off the coast. everyone gets in a little bit of drying pattern. high pressure will build in for friday and also on the way for saturday. one change with saturday is, we will see a little bit more of a southerly flow that may increase the cloud cover a little bit. but generally saturday and sunday will be warmer than what we saw for today. i think you will like that coming up in the seven-day. trying to get a little bit of that wrap-around return flow once the low pressure kicks off the coast that may spark a snow temperature in out to the west and a lot of will stay dry. on the way tomorrow, increasing amounts of sunshine. clear skies on the way for friday night and more sunshine coming upcoming up on the way for saturday. let's talk temperatures. right now not too bad here but a large area cold weather to the canadian prairies and the hudson bay. all this is coming in our drink land take at that time to get here.

a jury ordered apple to pay 620 million to the company vernex. the ruling is based on a legal fight that started more than three years ago. in 2012, vernax accused apple of violating four of its patents with its apps like i message and facetime. a jury found apple guilty and ordered the company to pay $368 million and appealed and won a technical, and then the case was retried. a california man is suing mcdonald's over what he says is fake cheese in the company's mosquito sticks. chris -- mozzarella sticks. he is asking for his $1727 back and seeking damage for customers they said was misled. they describe the cheese sticks as being made with 100% real mozzarella. but they say the fast food chain uses starch additives. mcdonald's has vowed to fight the allegation. >> i manage in would. and happy birthday facebook.

the irs suffered a hardware failure yesterday which left many of its tax processing systems unavailable. the agency stopped accepting electronically filed tax returns because of it. the outage could affect refunds. the "where's my refund" and other services on that site are not working. repairs are being made and they hope to have it back up soon. the united way of virginia is needing your help to reach their goal. the nonprofit organization helps promote local communities by focusing on improving education, health and income through services and initiatives, especially for kids. currently age range of more than 25% of their goal is to reach it for the 2015 campaign. four of the board members have even agreed to match any donations up to $20,000. >> they offered to put their money where their heart is, and
