report of a person in the 100 block of barrett street dragging a body through the woods. investigators say it was a trick to lure them to that area where they found a 25-year-old man standing in the woods with a gun. according to police, the man was mentally unstable and told the officers he wanted them to shoot him. police negotiated for 2.5 hours before a s.w.a.t. team intervened. >> reporter: a former bedford police officer has been indicted on counts of child pornography. brian mcalexander became the target of a child exploitation case in april of 2015 led by an investigator in the southern virginia internet crimes against children task force. he'll be arraigned monday

roanoke fire and rescue responded to a house fired earlier this morning. it happened in the 3700 block of brook mountain road. when crews arrived they saw flames shooting from the home. a hot chimney caused the blaze. a wood stove was being used to heat the home during the day. now, to the latest on the campaign trail. presidential candidates were back at it again today. for some republicans, it meant cashing in on last night's debate or making up for lost ground. >> did you enjoy the debate last night? >> reporter: a tamer tone on the trail. >> i drove 100 miles to have breakfast with you. >> oh, wow. >> let me talk. quiet. >> reporter: frontrunner donald trump moving up even more in the polls today.

hot springs at 37. our next weather-maker is this very large clipper system that currently spins up around the great lakes. that will make its way up and down toward our area in the next few ways. and we have winter storm watches for the western facing slopes in west virginia and in covington and west of the interstate 77 corridor. and this is a big system down here off the carolina coast. a very impressive nor easter getting ready to take shape here. that will play no role in our forecast. a trailing cold front will spark showers and snow showers for tomorrow. and behind it, we will get probably the coldest air we've seen so far this year on

and it's not going anywhere quickly. skies will clear out this evening, and they'll stay clear throughout a chunk of the overnight hours tonight. and more clouds roll in first thing tomorrow morning. and here comes the snow mid-day tomorrow. and also note there's rain and sleet mixed with that as well. pockets of rain, sleet, and snow and that will continue until tuesday. a majority of it on tuesday will stay out towards the west. this storm, not really a big deal, but we anticipate totals of 1/2-2 inches. and there could be a few slick spots on the road. a good chunk of the snow will stay out towards the west. our totals pretty much in line with that, although we are adding a coating of 1/2 inch to be safe. 1-2 for the roanoke.

be focused in charlottesville as u.v.a. and virginia tech prepare for their a.c.c. rematch. the cavs looked for revenge after their loss on january 4th. and last night virginia tech broke their five game losing streak. and a double-double helped lead the way for the hokies. and u.v.a. had a victory over pitt. before that, the hokies and cavs women were at it today. virginia had won the last 18 in a row coming. in and hicks dishes to cook. and the hokies led 18-15 after one. benson is going to drive baseline.
