>> reporter: 18-year-old david eisenhower and natalie keepers behind bars accused of allegedly plotting to murder the 13-year-old for weeks. eisenhower has an inappropriate relationship with her communicating with her on social media. abc 13 7s father said her family tried to step in after finding out she was talking to older men online. >> my daughter in ohio had dug around in the kohl's instagram account and she screenshot a mere few of those. >> reporter: abc news finding this screenshot of her kik account showing over thanksgiving she was chatting with a guy named david. >> they actually had some vigorous and on point discussions about her social media activity in november and december leading up to this. they had taken her phone away from her because they felt she was having some inappropriate conversations.

friends say to refer to eisenhower as her boyfriend. eisenhower told authorities he saw her the night she disappeared giving her a hug before going home. four days later, police found the girl's body about two miles from eisenhower's ran parents home. >> i'm pretty sure if i was locked up in a cell with him that i could get answers out of him. he took my little girl. a bitter cold start to the morning with multiple school delays across our area. guess what? temperatures are only going to get lower. let's send it over to melissa le fevere and the weather center with more on what we can expect. >> melissa: the coldest air of the season arriving on our doorstep. look how beautiful are our tower cameos. we're seeing a little sunshine.

overcast skies. have had reports of light rain and even light snow showers across the area. temperatures right now in the 30s and 40s. 38 in lynchburg. 40 in danville. 41 abrupt meal. 27 in blacksburg. cold weather is here to stay. i will give you the chili forecast coming up. back to you. right now, the second day of jury selection is underway for the woman charged with the abuse and neglect of her five-year-old son. this is a live look at the courthouse where the trial is taking place. noah thomas was found dead in a septic tank four days after he went missing last march.his mother, ashley white, entered a not guilty plea. 20 of the 22 jurors have been selected.those sides will get their discretionary strikes and the total number of 14 will be seated. suri crowe is in the courtroom evening.

two lynchburg men accused of being a man to death has pleaded guilty. darrell simmons and demarcus ware arrested in august 2015. they assaulted kevin irvine in july. two weeks later, irvine died due to traumatic head injuries. simons sentencing date has been set for april.according to court records, his murder charge was dropped. a big development on the story abc 13 has been following closely. north carolina environmental regulators have slapped duke energy with a hefty fine for 2014. duke energy pled guilty to months ago. duke energy said it is reviewing whether to challenge the fine. the company says water quality in the dan river return to normal quickly after the spill. we now know the cause of a

killed an elderly woman. it happened two weeks ago on henry street. officials say the fire started in the kitchen in the area of the overhead microwave. the fire then spread to the attic. 73-year-old katie yates lived alone and was not able to make it out. the new hampshire primary is underway and presidential candidates are still stumping for last-minute votes. kevin mountain in new hampshire. >> reporter: this morning, the candidates, including hillary clinton, or out and about trying to influence those undecided voters. >> we're going to keep working until the last boat is cast. >> reporter: at one stop, clinton ran into the husband of carly fiorina. differences aside for a picture. linton is trailing bernie sanders who is taking on a strong finish in the granite state.

with money for cancer and opioid abuse programs. republicans have already expressed outrage over the oil tax. experts say the bill is never going to be adopted by the republicans in the house and senate. the virginia senate has okayed a bill eliminating party royalties. the republican-led senate voted 34-5 to approve the bill. it would require voters in the march 1 primary to sign a statement affirming the republicans. it had criticism from donald trump supporters. diamonds might be a girls best friend, but for one-woman

life in prison in an exclusive and of you with abc news. after spending 11 and a half months behind bars, she is revealing what life was like behind bars and how her family is doing. elizabeth hur reports. >> reporter: teresa giudice admits transitioning from the housewife to prison inmate in connecticut was not easy. >> mold in the bathroom. not running water constantly. the showers were freezing cold. it was hell. >> reporter: the reality start telling abc at the time of her arrest that she did not know she had committed a crime. >> definitely not. the government sought differently.i got sentenced. >> reporter: giudice spent 11 and a half months in jail after she and her husband joe ultimately pleaded guilty to multiple crimes including conspiracy to create wire fraud in bankruptcy fraud. >> it broke my heart. i was always growing up the good girl.

that includes the wind chill. a winter storm warning in effect for western virginia. here is a look at the big picture. low pressure centered over the great lakes and ohio valley. energy rotating around this flow and that is where we are activity. it is even reaching down into parts of alabama and georgia today. we have an impressive, extensive influence on our weather as we head throughout the day. the low is going to be stationary today continuing even into tomorrow. the low does finally depart to the northeast, but we will get some reinforcing shot of cold air. today, light rain and snow. a few flurries tomorrow. it is going to be cold. let's take you through futurecast.you see the clouds hanging tough. most of the snow activity stays out in western virginia. as we head into the afternoon hours, partly sunny to mostly cloudy overnight. looking dry. looking good for the commute

watch out for slick roads that may develop. we could see more flurries heading into wednesday afternoon mainly staying toward the mountains. we will finally begin to dry out across the entire area wednesday into thursday. if you are hoping for snow in lynchburg, martinsville, dance for, maybe a couple hundred of an inch in blacksburg. high temperatures today in the 30s and 40s. 38 in lynchburg. 41 in danville. overnight, we are dropping into the 20s. here is the cooldown we were talking about. your highs tomorrow, 33. high on thursday only 29. your valentine's day weekend is not looking so warm and fuzzy. highs in the upper 20s saturday and sunday. overnight lows in the teens. back to you. as global concern continues to grow over the zika virus, medical professionals in northern california are working to make sure it does not spread there. doctors will soon take an unnatural step by asking some blood donors to stop giving.

100 mile-per-hour wind an hearing aid danville-lynchburg and heritage funeral service and crematory. now to the latest on that royal caribbean cruise heading back to new jersey after getting caught in hurricane force wind. this video shows the sea during the wild ride. lindsay davis has the latest. >> reporter: take a look at this new video. rough seas ultimately causing the royal caribbean cruise ship to turn around. the ship is on its way back to new jersey after hurricane force wind gusting over 100 miles per hour and 30 to 40 foot waves preventing it from making it to its final destination of the bahamas. >> the ship was rocking back and forth and tipping side to side. the cabinets were slamming open.>> reporter: passengers used cell phones to capture scenes that look like they were right out of the titanic. flying furniture and shattered

it moved into a rough storm off the carolina coast not long after leaving new jersey over the weekend. the captain ordering 4500 passengers in 1600 crew members to stay in their rooms for hours. >> the amount of things shifting around the rooms was frightening. >> reporter: four passengers suffered injuries. some on board blame the captain. >> i'm concerned about the captain's judgment in the situation. i resent the fact he put 6000 people's lives at risk taking us into a storm that was predicted. >> reporter: royal caribbean apologized to passengers saying that while the weather was unpleasant, the ship remains seaworthy. they think the captain and crew for guiding the ship back to better weather. the cruise line giving passengers a full refund and a 50 percent discount on a future cruise. one senator calling for ntsb
