campbell county school employees are hopeemployees are hoping for a raise this year. the county is still waiting for a state budget to be determined, but last night the school superintendent rocket johnson requested a 2% raise for all school employees during the school board meeting. the race will cost $1.1 million. and this is a preliminary payroll and needed so employees could keep up with the rise in the cost of living. virginia's house of del cats will allow students in underperforming school to stwoych a different one within the same district. the bill was controlled by the republican-controlled house. the state would identify 12 underperforming public schools and give students there the choice to transfer to another school in the district. the bill now heads to the republican controlled senate. new tonight. we are finding out how the 200 layoffs at genworth financial will affect our community. katie brooke sat down with the regional alliance today. she is live in the lynchburg newsroom. katie? >> reporter: danner, the layoffs

will no longer sell additional life insurance and fix aid nudity products. according to a new employee, everyone from life and annuityeveryone from life and annuities business lost their jobs. i am told those who support existing policies or work with the customer service in 29 is spared. any timing is like this happens in the community, it affects everything from retail to insurance and real estate. but today, organization just launched now hiring. an online newsletter that compiles all open jobs in the area and sends them to those looking. that information has been passed to genworth as well to distribute it to those laid off. >> it is unfortunate that this business line is changing, but we believe that there is room for the -- for the citizens. room for the employees to stay in the region, and we will do everything we can to assist themeverything we can to assist them. >> reporter: genworth has 100 employees in lynchburg a those laid off will receive 60 days paid leave.

light snow in pulaski and roanoke light areas of light snow. light snow and authorities in bedford county. zoom us into some areas of snow. if you were traveling i would say at the most we could see a dusting of snow and not expecting any measurable snow. keep in mind that any snow will cut down on the visibility if you are driving. looking toward danville, you can see a small pocket of snow making its way along the state line. overall, though, the main story will be the cold weather and this is what it is going to look like for you. no measurable snow showing up locally, but all of us will get cold weather as the wind will be coming in from the west that will help to allow some of that really cold weather up in canada to make its way down into the heart of virginia. this map shows how cold it is going to feel. if you are at 11 p.m. future cast, these are wind chills. showing a wind chill of 17 in lynchburg, 15 in roanoke, and if you are watching us from hillsville or blacksburg, you will have single digit wind chills. when you wake up in the morning,
