crashed on a bridge today. the storm also caused major outages throughout the roanoke valley. there are still about 24,000 houses without power right now. at one point, appalachian told us it was 50,000 customers in virginia without power. the ice caused tree branches and even whole trees to snap, bringing down those power cords. appalachian power has called in crews from outside the state to help. but even with that, because of the number of outages, it may be thursday night or friday before the lights are on for everyone. we caught up with crews in danville yesterday working to restore power in the north piney road area. a couple of pine trees fell on power lines, bring down a

most of that is going to stay? southwestern virginia and southside. most of us are dry right now. as you make your way deeper into southwest virginia. southwest of marion and toward bristol, tennessee, there is a large area of rain mixed in with snow. most of this snow is going to fall in the higher elevations and in the mountains. however it is possible to see a small accumulation across southside. most of the accumulating snow is mainly going to be to the west of martinsville. southwestern virginia. we'll say towards wytheville, if you have travel plans to the south tonight, be prepared for rain and light snow. a nice warmup today. we're at 40 in lynchburg. we have mostly clear skies for now. but we'll see increasing clouds this evening.

most of us are still above freezing. charlottesville 45. 36 blacksburg. 40 roanoke. southside, lower 40s in south boston, danville, martinsville. in the next hour, most of us will stay dry. the closer we get to 10:00 p.m. and midnight. we'll see this batch of rain and snow moving into southside. if you live near roanoke, bedford, lynchburg, and south of that line, that's where the precip is going to occur. north of that line, it looks like you're going to see dry weather. right along the state line will see rain and snow mixing in. we're not expecting accumulations of snow toward danville, halifax, charlottesville. you may see snow falling as light rain.
