states holding a primary contest on so-called super tuesday. 3mona hillary clinton's campaign is launching a television ad campaign. her campaign announced that it's running its first tv ads in the richmond market. the 30 second spots.. which highlight clinton's record on foreign policy, women's rights, and other issues, are part of an initial 6-figure ad buy. the campaign didn't disclose exactly how much it will spend. right now -- clinton is leading the polls in virginia.. and has the support of both senators and gov. terry mcauliffe. 3pattie also in richmond- the house has approved a bill that would protect people who oppose same-sex marriage and extra-marital sex. the bill would prohibit the state from punishing those who refuse services to same-sex couples, transgender people, or someone who has sex outside of marriage. opponents say.. the measure would open the door to discrimination. but supporters say.. the state must protect same-sex marriage opponents.. who find themselves "constantly under attack by shifting cultural

to the senate. 3mona tight attorney general mark herring is parterning with the virginia department of veterans services.. and the virginia state bar.. to provide free legal services to low-income veterans and their families. a laundry room every year. april molina shows you what you can do to prevent it. 3"the san antonio fire department set up this mock laundry room to simulate a dryer fire...they're igniting the lint inside the vent hose, which is the most likely culprit in this type of fire." "the lint and the dryer cloths that we use to make our clothes smell good, those are all flammable, very flammable." as are laundry baskets full of clothes often left sitting next to or on top of the dryer. "things are gonna smolder for a while and it'll take a little time for it to heat up and catch everything." in this case it wasn't a quick burning fire...but the smoke came quick and spread fast. 3 new this morning, a lynchburg man is facing charges after authorities in amherst county say he led them on an 8 mile long chase. the amherst county sheriff's office arrested lawrence samuel crank jr. on tuesday after a chase that started on river road and ended near a

madison heights. and the chase didn't stop there, they say crank also ran for a short time on foot. he now faces a range of charges, one of them being possession with intent to distribute. he's in the amherst adult detention facility beng held with no bond. for the full list of charges, head to wset.com 3 3 mona tight today the defense is expected to begin presenting their case..in the murder trial of reserve waynesboro police captain kevin quick . federal prosecutors wrapped up their case, yesterday. the prosecution's last witness, f-b-i special agent jason warren, analyzed cell phone records..that put quick and one of the six defendants near the same location the night he went missing. the last record of quick using his phone was on the same road where his girlfriend lived. but quick never made it to her home -- where his family says he was headed that night to check on his daughter. warren testified one of the defendants -- mersaides shelton's cell phone pinged the same tower on turtle creek road minutes before. 3 pattie the lynchburg police department is trying to attract more minorities to the

police says the department is working toward making sure the police force better reflects the community it's policing. mona and he's focusing on recruitment and community involvement to make that goal a reality. courtney wheaton reports. 3 chief raul diaz" its very important for a police agency to have diversity we need to reflect the community we serve." since being sworn in 3 months 3 ago, chief diaz says one of his goals was to increase diversity within the department. right now, about 88 percent of l-p-d-staff is white. only 8 percent is african american. although blacks make up 30 percent of lynchburg's population."with that being said the department is no where close to that representation." ...as for hispanics.. "that one percent that's other so i assume that's me." he says the first order of business is getting out in the community to make sure all voices are being heard. next -- hiring 3 more women, local residents, and people of color. "i think it's important. people want somebody they can relate to, someone they can identify with, somebodywho they think understands them as a person." he says whether they are white, black, brown-- male or female when he's with his coworkers. 3 mona tight3 the bedford county fire marshal says two people were hurt in a shed explosion. he says they were trying to saw off a piece of a drum...carrying flammable liquid. it happened saturday night on rexford and goodview drive . fire officials say a teenager and 22-year-old used an "angle slider" to cut the drum so they could make a burn barrel.. not realizing the sparks from the tool would ignite the fumes. both had minor injuries. 3 pattie tight also in bedford county, investigators say a fire that broke out in a home there started from a heat lamp that had been left on for the owner's cats housed in the garage. it happened in the 11-hundred-block of shepherds store road - just off dickerson mill road shortly after four yesterday morning. firefighters from four different units battled the blaze for several hours.. there are no reported injuries. damage from the fire is estimated at 200- thousand-dollars.

virginia senate passed a bill that would allow police departments to withhold the names of officers from the public.. even in cases of officer misconduct. pattie the sponsor of the bill says.. it's to protect the safety of officers. others say.. it would be a blow to transparency. suri crowe reports. 3 the senate voted 25 to 15 monday to keep the names of all law enforcement officers secret from the public. in other words the freedom of information act-regularly used by journalists and others to obtain information about officers would no longer be in valid in virginia- should the bill become law. that alarms some-who think government employees should not be shielded from accountability. meghan rhyne, executive director of the virginia coalition for open government, "there are a variety of reasons why you would want to know the names of government employees ranging from most of them having to do with accountability-should anything go wrong-there needs to be a

3 mona danville police will now have more officers on patrol. tuesday night city council voted to allow the department to hire four more officers- boosting the number of officers to 135. the move will place one more officer on each shift. danville police chief phillip broadfoot says.. the money will come from what's leftover in the department's budget. 3 pattie tight not every theft from a store involves money. these wisconsin police officers looked like they had to choke back a couple laughs while recovering two giant stuffed teddy bears. the daring rescue was all caught on police dashcam. it happened last week in the town of wauwatosa. authorities there say two women stole the bears, along with chocolates from a local drugstore. police later stopped the suspects' vehicle, arrested the women and saved the bears. it's not clear
