voter turnout during the primaries, but this is the first year the democrats and republicans have held their primaries the same day in a presidential election since 2008. today many of the voting site supervisors were picking up their machines as they prepare for tomorrow. virginia is one of the fool states that does not require you to register as a republican or democrat, but still you can only cast your ballot in one of those races. when you enter your voting site tomorrow, you will be asked which race you want to vote in. the danville registrarthe danville registrar says hard to predict voter turnout and is hopeand is hoping to get a third of the 27,000 registered voters. >> we just have a single republican primary in 2012 the president. less than a 2% turnout for the whole city. so in 2008, the two primary, we

virginia has 95 democratic delegates available on primary day. in the democrat, presidential primary hillary clinton leads bernie sanders by 400 delegates. >> despite the fact that when combined the four states, iowa, new hampshire, nevada and south carolina do not assign 400 delegates. rafi williams explains how it is possible in tonight's, did you know? >> reporter: the presidential primary process is confusing. on the democrat side, hillary clinton and bernie sanders are trying to amass 2382 delegates. that's how many needed to win. the delegates will vote at convention. they have two types, pledged and unpledged. pledged will vote for the candidate that won their statecandidate that won their state's. unpledged super delegates are not bound to vote for a

leaders, members of congress, governors, state party chairs and city leaders. out of the 4763 delegates that will attend the convention, 712 of them are super delegates. 245 that is about 15%. after each nominating contest a candidate gets to receive delegates. to understand the paijt of super delegates, look at new hampshire. sanders won new hampshire in a landslide. he got 15 pledged delegates. clinton got 9. but clinton had worked to get six out of the eight super delegates to vote for her in convention. the other two are undecided. that this means at the end of the day clinton and new hampshire are tied in new hampshire having 15 delegates eached. across the country clinton have locked up super delegates. she can have a leaved over 400 delegates despite a handle fromdelegates despite a hand handful of woman mating. now you know how euclidean don maintain a large lead in
