i'm kristina montuori. today: few morning showers .clearing for the late- morning & afternoon.tem peratures climb into the upper 30s and lower 40s tonight: partly to mainly cloudy with lows in the lower 20s thursday: sun & clouds with highs in the middle 40s blacksburg police are asking for help in finding a missing girl. thirteen year old "nichole lovell" was last seen between midnight and seven a-m. she has shoulder-legnth brown hair and a tracheotomy scar on her throat. police say she needs prescription medication daily because of a liver transplant and is without it. anyone with information is asked to call police at the number you see on your screen. the death toll related to the related to the major snowstorm in the east has risen to at least 48 with at least a dozen

about a fourth of the deaths were people who had been shoveling snow... which in some locations was more than two feet deep. prince william county police say that three people died after shoveling snow in the weekend blizzard. on tuesday... a 69-year-old died... after he went to bed complaining of chest pains. vo2 as we've reported... former virginia tech professor--- jerry scheeler--- died while shoveling at his home. he worked at virginia tech for more than 45- years. scheeler's step daughter says he was a humble man... who had the opportunity to travel the world.. sarah woodruff, scheeler's step daughter: "he loved to share that knowledge to anybody that would listen. he had books and books and he has movies alphabetized. and he wanted to share that show everybody else how cool it could be." the medical examiners officer says five people died from hypothermia--- including reports in in wise... and henry county. ### roanoke county fire and rescue crews are working to remove snow from area fire hydrants.

one thousand fire hydrants in the county and last week's snow has left some of them still covered. fire crews cleared some of those hydrants.. but the chief is asking homeowners to check nearby hydrants to make sure firefighters can reached them. stephen simon / roco fire & rescue chief:"a lot of the snow was pushed up against them so you cant see where the hydrant is. so at night our map books show us where the hydrants are but when you are driving down the road all you see is snow. so having some of the hydrants cleared out does help us." firefighters keep shovels and hoses on the trucks and can clear snow if needed. however.. residents can help crews save time during emergency situations by making sure there is a clear path to the hydrants.### a massive overnight fire destroys a building in downtown new orleans. the six alarm fire broke out around three-thirty this morning in a four story building. firefighters battled flames to keep them from spreading. one person was in the building at the time of the fire but was able to escape safely. the cause of the fire is still under investigation.### a federal judge has ordered the

of boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev. he and his brother tamerlan placed two bombs near the finish line of the race in 2013. the explosion left three people dead and more than 260 injured. manhunt. but dzhokhar was convicted and sentenced to death.### a murder suspect who entered an alford plea in lynchburg learns his sentence today. according to the lynchburg commonwealth's attorney, dominique moss entered the plea on first-degree murder charges in october in the august 2014 death of his cousin.. evidence shows that he ambushed the victim... shawn moss and shot him 17 times. in exchange for the plea, two gun charges against moss were dropped. he could face 20 years to life in prison.### bedford county employees can now bring guns to work if they have a concealed carry permit. unanimously to take the gun restriction out of

in addition, the county attorney took a look at possible issues. he said the county's insurance premiums will not be affected and liability issues could happen with or without a restriction. other nearby localities allow their employees to carry concealed weapons including lynchburg and campbell county.### one person is dead and at least 8 are in custody after federal officials clashed with anti- government protesters occupying a national wildlife refuge in oregon. ncb's pat dooris is at the scene with this report.###

donald trump says he's skipping tomorrow's republican debate.. just days before the iowa caucus.. because he thinks the fox moderator is unfair. meanwhile.. ted cruz-- who seemed to have a lock on iowa is now challenging donald trump to a one on one debate.. with no moderators. ted cruz/ r presidential candidate "i want you to think how you would react if you were interviewing someone for a job and they said you know what, i'm not willing to show up to the interview." bernie sanders is at the white house today.. meeting privately with president obama. meeting was first discussed in december and there's no formal agenda.### evangelical leader jerry falwell junior is endorsing donald trump for president. it's a blow to the g-o-p front- runner's chief challenger, texas senator ted cruz. trump quickly tweeted his appreciation for falwell's support. falwell is the son of the late televangelist jerry falwell,

cruz launched his campaign from liberty last summer.### happening today.. students from all over the commonwealth will meet with local senators to discuss student loan debt. senators mark warner and tim kane will host the conversation with student government leaders from fifteen state universities. experts say sixty percent of virginia's college students will graduate with some debt with the average student loan topping 26- thousand dollars. the discussion comes as the senate begins consideration of the higher education act. student leaders from ferrum college and radford university are scheduled to attend.### now for more on what we can expect throughout the evening and over the next several days lets check in with kristina montuori.### today: few morning showers .clearing for the late- morning &

highs in the middle 50s sunday: mostly sunny with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s today marks the first time in several months that music is not blasting from an abandoned building in new york. it all started a few months ago... when the university of iowa's fight song began to play.. and play.. and play-- for seven continuous hours each day. for a while nothing was done to stop the music.. because it played too low to be a noise violation-- and stopped before midnight.
