blacksburg police and workers from help save the next girl are asking the community to come forward if they have any information that could lead to where 13 year old nichole lovell can be found. it's information nichole's family will hope bring her safely back home. her home" tammy weeks is nichole's mother. huguely's newest attorney filed a petition for habeas corpus today. if approved ... huguely's attorney can report an unlawful imprisonment before a judge. the attorney claims huguely was severely intoxicated at the time of the murder and did not premeditate love's death. the attorney is demanding that huguely be released from prison and allow him to have an evidence hearing. the court has yet to schedule a date to hear huguely's case. also new tonight ... one of three virginia men charged in an alleged plot to attack synagogues and black churches plead guilty to robbery conspiracy today. 30-year-old charles halderman could get 20-years in prison when he's sentenced in april. authorities say halderman and two other richmond-area men .. plotted to rob a silver and coin dealer ... and use the money to finance a race war. ronald chaney the third and robert doyle face firearms charges as well as the robbery

scheduled for trial in march. major changes could be coming to the ferguson, missouri police department. the justice department reached a tentative agreement today with the city. the proposed deal requires more thorough training of police officers ... and reforming the city's use of force procedures. it will also require all patrol officers, supervisors and jail workers to wear body cameras and microphones. the move comes more than a year after a ferguson police officer fatally shot an un-armed teenager michael brown. the city council is expected to vote on the proposal on february 9-th. a group of armed anti-government protesters continue to occupy a federal refuge in oregon ... even after several of their leaders were arrested in a deadly shooting. however the government is beefing up its approach tonight ... blocking roads and setting up checkpoints around the refuge. the 8 suspects arrested last night ... include leader ammon bundy. they are all charged with felony

bundy spoke in court today ... asking the group to leave the refuge and go home. there's no word yet if the group plans to leave. new tonight at 11 ... the wife of a northern illinois police officer who killed himself after embezzling from a youth program ... has turned herself in after being indicted by a grand jury. lake county deputies say melodie gliniewicz was indicted on felony counts of money laundering and disbursing charitable funds without authority for personal benefit. deputies say her husband lieutenant charles gliniewicz staged his suicide to look like a homicide back in september for fear of getting caught after years of embezzling. authorities say melodie served as an adviser to the fox lake police explorer post her husband ran. more steps are being taken to help the people of flint, michigan .. suffering because of the city's lead water poisoning. today... governor rick snyder announced the state executive office will remain in flint until the problem is

the city's mayor is also taking steps to protect the community. she's asking the state to make sure no one pays for water they can't drink. mayor karen weaver/ flint, michigan - "i have told governor snyder that flint residents should not have to pay for water they did not and are not using. i appreciate, i want everybody to know i appreciate the federal government stepping up but this does not replace the state stepping up giving the funds for our residents to fix this issue" meanwhile ... we're learning just how bad the drinking water in flint is ... as virginia tech students share findings they call "shocking." virginia tech professor marc edwards led a team of faculty and students to independently test water samples in flint and detroit. this after people in michigan complained about poor quality. one student says she found lead

flint's water than detroit's. christina devine / student researcher this is the water that they were using in their system, and it was a fairly simple test they could have run before switching. you can see the results. you can actually visually see the lead particles in the water. you don't even have to send it to the lab to see that there's more lead in the flint water than the detroit water. edwards and his team of scientists and students will present their full findings tomorrow night at seven in goodwin hall. supervisors in botetourt county are undertaking an archaeological study of the land surrounding two historic slave quarters. the county ultimately wants to move the buildings to make way for industrial development. but people in the county are concerned there are unmarked graves lying below them. a descendant of the slaves who used to live and work on the property more than 2 hundred years ago says .. she hopes graves are discovered and the buildings

new tonight at 11 ... a bristol based company undergoing bankruptcy proceedings ... can now give million of dollars in bonuses to some of its executives. a judge made the ruling today for alpha natural resources. the order authorizes payments under the company's 20- 15 annual incentive bonus plan ... and key employee incentive plan. this comes after a branch of the department of justice objected to the plan earlier this month. alpha natural resources says .. these bonuses will help the company maintain strong leadership during the restructuring process. financial problems within norfolk southern lead to more downsizing. the company released its fourth quarter report today. the report shows profits slid 29-percent. that's being blamed on norfolk southern delivering 6- percent less freight. the company says it will cut 2- thousand jobs... or 4-percent of its workforce... by 20-20. norfolk southern stock has dropped 35- percent over the

two local non- profits are merging as one ... to help fight the issue of homelessness in the roanoke valley. the trust house and bethany hall will now be under one program known as arch. both organization provide mental health and addiction rehabilitation services. with the merger ... both organizations say they'll be able to help more people. it gives us a bang for the buck. it gives us the ability to recognize that when we are investing in two different operations that are doing similar work, where really not affecting the same population. when we combine those resources we are able to do more with that investment and we are able to ultimately reach more people. the program will still keep the two facilities working in their respective locations ...but under one mission and one operating budget that now equals one point one million dollars. it's a reunion 14 years in the making. the picture created by a 9 year-old boy ... that brought two
