the search continues this morning in blacksburg for a missing teenage girl. 13-year-old nichole lovell was last seen around midnight tuesday at her family's apartment. her mother says she disappeared wednesday morning. police say she's in danger because she has to take medication twice a day after having a liver transplant. wsls ten's duke carter has more on how police and local organizations are assisting in the search efforts.### duke blacksburg police and workers from help save the next girl are asking the community to come forward if they have any information that could lead to where 13 year old nichole lovell can be found. it's information nichole's family will hope bring her safely back home. vo tammy weeks is nichole's mother. weeks is fighting back tears because she knows her

jonathan kent was reported missing monday by co-workers .... but has not been heard from since last wednesday. he drives a 20-15 honda c-r-v ... with the license plate number v- e-c- 7-7-1-7. if you have any information call police. # convicted murderer george huguely is trying another legal tactic in hopes of being released from prison. huguely is currently serving 23 years in prison for killing fellow university of virginia student yeardley love. huguely's newest attorney filed a petition for habeas corpus on wednesday. if approved ... huguely's attorney can report an unlawful imprisonment before a judge. the attorney claims huguely was severely intoxicated at the time of the murder and did not premeditate love's death. the attorney is demanding that huguely be released from prison and allow him to have an evidence hearing. the court has yet to schedule a date to hear huguely's case.### a federal judge denies a defense motion... to drop a number of charges in the 2014 kidnapping

the daily progress reports the motion was denied monday. quick was reported missing in february 20-14. his body was found several days later. roanoke. the case was moved from charlottesville following a mistrial in may. # in what's news today... how safety and emergency preparedness is released today. the douglas wilder school of government and public affairs at vcu performed the study covering many topics that are currently before the general assembly, including public safety reforms and parole. secretary of public safety and homeland security brian moran will join experts for a discussion of the results. honeybee populations across the commonwealth are declining. to try to reverse this trend, the virginia consumer services is holding meetings around the state leading up to forming a pollinator protection plan. an input meetings takes place tonight at the roanoke county south county library. it is the only session taking place in southwest virginia.

new this morning... a man wanted in connection with a recent homicide and abduction in amelia county has been captured by u-s marshals in massachusetts. police say he is in critical condition... after shooting himself when officers tried to make the arrest. police say over the weekend.. "dana william" held his former in-laws... and several others hostage. after he eventually left the area with his mother in law.. police found her husband tied up... and unresponsive. he was pronounced dead at the scene. the investigation is now focused on finding his mother-in-law. family remains hopeful. shawntae smith."he told us his plan was to kill my mother and my stepfather and then kill himself" several rewards have been offered for information. #

of a federal wildlife refuge in oregon is telling followers to go home. an attorney for ammon bundy read a statement after bundy made his first court appearance in portland wednesday. bundy asked his followers to end their armed occupation of the national wildlife refuge. the group leader and seven others were arrested tuesday night on their way to a meeting with those living nearby. bundy's brother ryan was shot and suffered minor injuries. but - a spokesman for the armed occupiers - lavoy finicum - was killed. sheriff david ward, harney county it's time for everyone in this illegal occupation to move on. there doesn't have to be bloodshed in our community." three more men were arrested wednesday in connection to the case. the fbi says all three face a felony charge of conspiracy to impede officers.### the wife of a northern illinois police officer who killed himself... turned herself in... after being indicted by a grand jury. lake county deputies say she was

this morning... six people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide after a lengthy armed standoff with police. police say the barricade situation unfolded after officers found a dead body at a home. the swat team was called out to assist, as police say they attempted to negotiate with the suspect for several hours. when the standoff ended late last night.. officers found another five bodies, including the suspect inside the home. investigators believe all six people were related. stay with us on air and online at wsls dot com as we follow this developing story. new this morning... a man wanted in connection with a recent homicide and abduction in amelia county has been captured by u-s marshals in massachusetts. police say he is in critical condition... after shooting himself when officers tried to make the arrest. police say over the weekend.. the wife of a northern illinois police officer who killed himself... turned herself in... after being indicted by a grand jury. lake county deputies say she was indicted on felony counts of money laundering... and giving out charitable funds without authority for personal benefit. deputies say her husband staged his suicide to look like a homicide in september... for fear of getting caught after years of embezzling from a youth program. # major changes could come to the ferguson, missouri police department. the justice department reached a tentative agreement with the city. the proposed deal requires more thorough training of police officers and reforming the city's use of force procedures. it will also require all patrol officers, supervisors and jail workers to wear body cameras and microphones. the move comes more than a year after a ferguson police officer fatally shot un- armed teenager michael brown.### one of three virginia men charged in a plot to attack synagogues and black churches... pleads guilty to robbery conspiracy.

gender... or use a private facility. grimm is suing for sexual discrimination. gavin grimm/ former student: "i can say, 'i did not set out to make waves, i set out to use the bathroom.' and it's scary, and it's ah pause not easy. pause/tears" a decision is expected within weeks. # a state of emergency is in effect in flint, michigan because of lead in the tap water. that discovery was made by a group of researchers at virginia tech. tonight professor marc edwards and his team will present their findings. the presentation will provide an overview of the study as well as citizen science, ethics engineering and experiments. one student says she found lead levels were 18 times higher in flint's water than detroit's. christina devine / student researcher this is the water that they were using in their system, and it was a fairly simple test they could have run before switching. you can see the results. you can actually visually see the lead particles

have to send it to the lab to the flint water than the detroit water. governor rick snyder announced the state executive office will remain in flint until the problem is fixed. the city's mayor is also asking the state to make sure no one pays for water they can't drink.### carilion clinic warns people about the zika virus. as we've reported... someone in virginia tested positive for the disease. the department of health says they traveled from a country where there is currently a zika virus outbreak. the mosquito borne virus can cause health issues for adults... but the effects are more severe for pregnant women. a carilion clinic doctor says ... people should be wary of the virus in the summer. "the potential is here that you can get in the united states in the summer months come cause we do have mosquitoes ... if someone comes in from these countries are sick and can spread in the future."

for pregnant women heading into areas impacted by the outbreak. # say "aloha" to the good life if you're lucky enough to be able to move to hawaii. in the newest gallup and healthways state rankings report hawaii returns to the top spot with the state having the highest overall well- being. the report is based on physical, community, purpose, and financial well- being. hawaii also ranked among the top 10 in the other categories - while alaska came in second overall. according to the report, mississippi ranked last in financial well-being and for the seventh year in a row, west virginia was lowest rankings overall. americans considered their lives to be better in 2015 than in previous years. virginia dropped three spots to number 17.### now to kristina, with a look at our forecast.
