the ground search for a missing and endangered blacksburg teenager will continue this morning. more than a thousand police officers.... and members of the virginia tech --- corps of cadets combed the area around the home of 13-year-old nicole lovell on thursday. she was last seen there around midnight tuesday. police say she is on liver medication... that she must take twice a day. going without it could cause irreversable damage. lt. mike albert, blacksburg police department it's one of the darkest and worst things that you can deal with, but nicole also requires medication daily for a medical condition. we know that we're going on 36 plus hours without her not having

if you have any information, call police. # a pulaski county judge says pictures of noah thomas' body will be allowed at his mother's upcoming trial. ashley white's defense team filed several motions.. asking that pictures of noah's body in the septic tank and autopsy be excluded. white's lawyer says the photographs are irrelevant to the charges and would only inflame the jury. the judge denied the motions. noah's father.. paul thomas is set for trial in march. his lawyer is requesting all references and evidence relating to the search for.. and death of noah be excluded from his trial. the judge has not yet ruled on this motion. ### new human trafficking numbers are out. one hundred 45 cases were reported in virginia ... that's slightly down from last year.... according to the national human trafficking resource center. nearly 6- thousand cases were reported across the country. the virginia breakdown includes more than one hundred cases of sex trafficking... and 31 cases of labor

since 2007... the center has received reports of more than 7- hundred cases of human trafficking in the commonwealth. the hotlines identified thousands more potential victims through the calls of friends, family members, service providers... and community members. in total.... more than 25-thousand trafficking cases have been reported through the center... and the polaris--- befree textline since december 2007. # the so-called affluenza teen .. ethan couch may learn today whether he'll be moved from a juvenile detention center in texas to an adult jail. couch was deported from mexico thursday. that's where he and his mother allegedly fled in early december after video showed couch possibly violating his probation. couch was put on 10 years' probation after killing four people in a drunken driving crash. the two were arrested in puerto vallarta, mexico, on december 28-th and transferred to immigration authorities.### a rocky mount store hopes to reopen today... after a car drove thru the front window. the crash happened around

franklin turnpike. police say .. a 71- year-old woman drove her s-u-v through the front window of the store. by a medical emergency dollars in damage. but... the franklin county building inspector says the building is safe to be in. # danville police continue investigating this morning after five people were taken to the multi-vehicle accident. it happened just before 6 thursday evening in the 13-hundred block of south boston road. police say a 20-14 nissan truck was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit a stopped car which caused a chain reaction. police charged the driver of the truck -- 39-year- old steven mayhew with failure to drive on the right side of the highway and driving a vehicle not under control. ### in what's news today... students and parents can learn about the "dangers of social media". police say with hundreds of thousands of apps... it's a waiting game.... before another story is circulating about a child who has been the victim of

we're learning more details about an apparent murder-suicide in the chesapeake area... that left six people dead. investigators say five of the six killed died of gunshot wounds... and the suspected gunman shot himself while barricaded from police. demetrius peacock - neighbor "it's crazy. too much. i stay right beside it. my

the commonwealth's attorney disagrees saying gillespie worked in the department too long ago to matter, and he's worked on cases at centra hospital before without his assistant's marriage being an issue. he says the investigation could take several more months. valois says the family hasn't decide yet whether or not to take the issue to court.### happening today... a court hearing for a chicago police officer charged with murder. a status hearing is today for the chicago officer-- "jason van dyke"--- accused of fatally shooting a teenager 16 times. van dyke is charged with first-degree murder for the death of 17 year- old laquan mcdonald in 20- 14. the indictment alleges that van dyke "acted without lawful justification"... when he shot mcdonald. van dyke has pleaded not guilty. # researchers at virginia commonwealth university say the state recorded nearly 1,000 fatal drug overdoses in 2014 .. most of those involving prescription painkillers or heroin. researchers also say that the epidemic costs taxpayers $600

safety and health care services. overdoses increased 38 percent to 2014. deaths from overdoses are seen more in southwest and southside virginia, hampton roads and richmond.### dozens of people in alleghany arrested. it's part of "operation deep the force. 55 officers were sent out in teams... to arrest 67 people... indicted on 188 charges. some investigations have been ongoing for about a year. these kinds of round-ups happen a few times a year. the alleghany county sheriff says they're trying to catch these people off guard. kevin hall/alleghany county sheriff "the element of surprise ... get them and it could possibly lead to another case and not let them know that it's coming out so they can't leave the area or the state" agencies included in the round up-- the u-s marshals service, virginia state police, and bath

a southwest virginia man is in jail this morning after a meth lab was found in his home. washington county deputies were serving larry smith with an outstanding warrant when the lab was found. he was arrested on charges of possession with intent to manufacture. he was also served with an outstanding warrant for an assault on a family member. he's currently being held at the southwest regional jail.### the world health organization has called an emergency meeting to address mounting concerns over the zika virus. once case has been reported here in virginia. expectant mothers are particularly at risk. cases of developmental problems in newborns are on the rise as the illness sweeps through central and south america... and now, fear about the virus is spreading to the u-s. health officials say that they need to get answers soon because the mosquito-born virus is quote "spreading explosively." world health organization who director- general margaret chan "the possible links only

suspected have rapidly changed the risk profile of zika from a mild threat to one of alarming proportions." there are no medicines to treat those infected with zika, and no vaccines to prevent it....and an estimated 80 percent of people infected have no symptoms. the three biggest u-s airline carriers are allowing some customers to cancel or postpone their trips to areas affected by zika. the move comes as concern about the mosquito- born virus rises. united's policy includes travel to all areas mentioned by the centers for disease control. delta has announced a similar policy, though customers must request refunds or make changes by february 29th to avoid fees. american will allow customers a refund if they provide a doctor's note stating they're unable to travel to one of four cities due to pregnancy.### a group of virginia tech researchers was the first to learn the flint, michigan water supply was contaminated with high levels of lead. the team spent six months

community meeting... where they talked about their findings. # we spoke to the group in charge of the study they say some homes had nearly 20 times more levels of lead in the water. meaning people in flint were exposed to lead poisoning. which is why one mother is grafteful the group of virginia tech students informed the michigan government people don't have safe drinking water. siddharta roy was one of many students who researched the water supply in flint. roy along with other studetns presented their findings tonight in front of hundreds of people. they learned the water supply in flint had 20 times higher levels of lead compared to detroit. they also learned the water was filled with bacteria called "legionella" which causes legionnaires disease. a sickness similar to pneumonia roy told the crowd .. government agencies like michigan department of ennvironment quality tried to discredit the group's research and informed the public the

accused of fatally shooting a teenager 16 times. van dyke is charged with first-degree murder for the death of 17 year- old laquan mcdonald in 20- 14. the indictment alleges that van dyke "acted without lawful justification"... when he shot mcdonald. van dyke has pleaded not guilty. # new this morning... researchers at virginia commonwealth university say the state recorded nearly 1,000 fatal drug overdoses in 2014 .. most of those involving prescription painkillers or heroin. researchers also say that the epidemic costs taxpayers $600 million every year in public safety and health care services. overdoses increased 38 percent in virginia from 2012 to 2014. deaths from overdoses are seen more in southwest and southside virginia, hampton roads and richmond.### dozens of people in alleghany county woke up to being arrested. it's part of "operation deep freeze" ... a drug round up by the

55 officers were sent out in teams... to arrest 67 people... indicted on 188 charges. some investigations have been ongoing for about a year. the alleghany county sheriff says they're trying to catch these people off guard. # a southwest virginia man is in jail this morning after a meth lab was found in his home. washington county deputies were serving larry smith with an outstanding warrant when the lab was found. he was arrested on charges of possession with intent to manufacture. he was also served with an outstanding warrant for an assault on a family member. ### the world health organization has called an emergency meeting to address mounting concerns over the zika virus. once case has been reported here in virginia. expectant mothers are particularly at risk. cases of developmental problems in newborns are on the rise in central and south america... and now, fear about the virus is spreading to the u-s. health officials say that they need to get answers soon because the mosquito-born virus is quote "spreading explosively."

who director- general margaret chan "the possible links only recently suspected have rapidly changed the risk profile of zika from a mild threat to one of alarming proportions." there are currently no medicines to treat those infected with zika, and no vaccines to prevent it..# the three biggest u-s airline carriers are allowing some customers to cancel or postpone their trips to areas affected by zika. united's policy includes travel to all areas mentioned by the centers for disease control. delta has announced a similar policy, though customers must request refunds or make changes by february 29th to avoid fees. american will allow customers a refund if they provide a doctor's note stating they're unable to travel to one of four cities due to pregnancy.### a group of virginia tech researchers was the first to learn the flint, michigan water supply was contaminated with high levels of lead. the team spent six months studying the water. wsls ten's duke carter was at a

talked about their findings. # we spoke to the group in charge of the study they say some homes had nearly 20 times more levels of lead in the water. meaning people in flint were exposed to lead poisoning. which is why one mother is grafteful the group of virginia tech students informed the michigan government people don't have safe drinking water. siddharta roy was one of many students who researched the water supply in flint. roy along with other studetns presented their findings tonight in front of hundreds of people. they learned the water supply in flint had 20 times higher levels of lead compared to detroit. they also learned the water was filled with bacteria called "legionella" which causes legionnaires disease. a sickness similar to pneumonia roy told the crowd .. government agencies like michigan department of ennvironment quality tried to discredit the group's research and informed the public the water was safe to drink. the group's work isnt done yet. in fact they have been hired to
