tuesday: partly cloudy with highs in the upper 50s wednesday: scattered rain showers with highs in the upper 50s the ground search continues this afternoon for a missing and endangered blacksburg teenager. more than a thousand police officers and members of the virginia tech corps of cadets combed the area around the home of 13-year-old nicole lovell on thursday. she was last seen there around midnight tuesday. police say she is on medication that she must take twice a day after receiving a liver transplant. going without it could cause irreversable damage. lt. mike albert, blacksburg police department - it's one of the darkest and worst things that you can deal with, but nicole also requires medication daily for a medical condition. we know that we're going on 36 plus hours without her not having the medication. if you have any information, you're asked to call police. ### new at noon.. one woman has died after an overnight house fire in gretna. firefighters were called to the

around 11 o- clock last night. the victim appeared to try to escape before the fire totaled the home. it appears to have started inside the kitchen. an investigation is still underway.### an additional charge is filed against the man whose 3-year-old daughter was killed after his car collided with an oncoming train. 25-year-old austin lilly was already facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter after the march 2015 accident in elliston. he's now facing a second charge... aggravated involuntary manslaughter. commonwealth's attorney mary pettitt says the more serious charge requires she show his behavior was "so gross, wanton and culpable as to show a reckless disregard for human life". involuntary carries a sentence of zero to 10 years, if convicted while aggravated carries a sentencing range of 1-20 years. the trial is set for march 28. the man charged in the murders of maryland sisters katherine and sheila lyon returns to court this afternoon for a pre-trial

lloyd welch jr. is charged with two counts of first degree felony murder. if convicted, he could face the death penalty. the lyon sisters were 12 and 10 years old when they disappeared from a maryland shopping mall 40 years ago. welch's jury trial is currently scheduled to begin in march.### the family of a man shot at lynchburg's centra hospital wants the city's police department off the case. attorney paul valois who represents jonathan warner says .. the security guard who shot him, wes gillespie, used to work in the police department, and his son currently does. he says that by itself should be considered a conflict of interest, but he's also uncovered another connection. 15:05:14 "one of the senior prosecutors in the lynchburg commonwealth's attorney's office is married to a clinical psychologist who is employed by centra mental health services, and so again the family would prefer to avoid the appearance of any conflict of interest." the commonwealth's attorney disagrees saying gillespie worked in the department

worked on cases at centra hospital before without his issue. take several more months.### numbers are out. 145 cases were reported in virginia last year. that's down slightly from the year before according to the national human trafficking resource center. nearly 6- thousand cases were reported across the country. the virginia breakdown includes more than 100 cases of sex trafficking... and 31 cases of labor trafficking. since 2007... the center has received reports of more than 7- hundred cases of human trafficking in the commonwealth. in total, more than 25-thousand trafficking cases have been reported since december 2007. ### researchers at virginia commonwealth university say the state recorded nearly one- thousand fatal drug overdoses in 2014. most of those involved prescription painkillers or heroin. researchers also say that the epidemic costs taxpayers $600 million every year in public

a spokesperson for the governor says there will be a compromise on gun legislation that strengthens some gun control measures while relaxing others. as part of the compromise.. democrats will reverse course and not revoke reciprocity agreements with 25 states for concealed carry permits. in exchange, republicans will include a measure to prohibit people with permanent protective orders from having a gun. del. c. todd gilbert,r-15th district: "in light of the fact that we're going to be expanding concealed carry rights for virginians all across the country, we thought that was a pretty good trade." del. david toscano, d-57th district: "this is a small step, it's not huge, you know, it doesn't solve all the gun- related problems, but it solves a couple." republicans will also agree to require state police to be present at gun shows, where they can provide voluntary background checks on gun purchasers. ### the world health organization is preparing for an emergency meeting monday to address concerns of the zika virus. one case has been reported here in virginia. health officials say they need to get answers soon because the mosquito-born virus is
