hawkeye state hard. how last night's debate ... is affecting today's polls. and ... the 6-11 locomotive is returning ... for more excursions. when you can purchase your tickets for a ride in the historic steam engine. good evening, and thanks for joining us for wsls 10 at eleven. i'm lindsey ward. john has the night off. local and state law enforcement agencies are teaming up ... to combat a growing issue. this evening ... the group "virginia crime prevention association" is educating students and parents in the alleghany highlands ... about the dangers of social media. wsls ten's duke carter was at the presentation ... and is live in the studio tonight. duke ... what were some of the key messages pushed at tonight's presentation? the main message for parents and children is to have a open dialogue about the dangers and concerns about posting content online. members in the bedford county sheriff's department "internet crimes against children" presented the information to about a dozen people tonight. investigators talked about knowing the features of social media apps and making sure there are parental control

parents who attended the meeting say they have major concerns about how easy it is for children to post material online. i worry about photos, i hear stories about since our daughters are girls, i hear stories about girls posting pictures for boys and they stay out there forever," organizers say this is the first time they had a discussion with parents and children about the dangers of posting information or picures online. they say other takeaways from tonight's meeting are parents needing to stay up to date on the latest technology ... and kids not posting information about their whereabouts online. the overall goal ... getting parents and children together to make sure they can have an open converstaion about posting to social media. we want parents and students to be on the same page to see the dangers and basically house the parents can assist, hopefully this will be a first of a long list of discussions they can have together to make them safer and unite them as a family, students who participated in the

participated in the meeting took away some important lessons. not everyone on social media is who you think they are, be safe, be careful," not to accept friend request from people i do not know," organizers say they hope to eventually have a presentation for families in roanoke county in the coming weeks. but law enforcement suggest parents should consistently check your child's phone as well just in case any explicit images may have been shared. in studio dc wsls ten. new tonight at 11 ... a lynchburg man is in jail on multiple child porn charges. 41-year-old clifton trent was arrested today at his home ... and charged with distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography. police started looking into trent ... after an investigation into a case of online sharing of child porn. he's currently being held at the blue ridge regional jail in lynchburg.

more than 50 people were arrested in montgomery county this week ... during a drug round up called operation "hard days night." the montgomery county sheriff's office ... along with other law enforcement agencies started the operation on wednesday. by today ... deputies say more than 50 people were arrested on 70 outstanding warrants ... the operation also lead to 40 additional drug and firearm charges. the search for a missing blacksburg teenager will continue tomorrow morning. in the search efforts today for 13-year-old nicole lovell ... a drone from virginia tech with infrared technology was used. officers from seven agencies ...including the f- b-i.. are still focusing on the mile radius around nicole's home. she was last seen there around midnight tuesday. her family says she has to take liver medication twice a day ... and cannot go without it. fred hawks & tammy weeks grandfather & mom no sleeping at night. can't eat. she needs she needs her medicine really bad. really bad. it's getting critical.

mobile command center this evening ... while the center at the blacksburg police department remains in place. the team says it will likely pick up the search in the same place tomorrow. the trial date for the man charged with the murders of the lyon sisters is now postponed to october. the trial against lloyd lee welch junior was originally set for march.. he's charged in the 19-75 killings of maryland sisters katherine and sheila lyon. in court today ... his lawyers talked about how much media received. his defense team requested for a granted. the gag order prohibits council and those part of the case to discuss it outside court. his trial is now scheduled for october 18-th ... at 9 a-m. new tonight at 11 ... two people are in the hospital with serious injuries this evening ...

it happened at the intersection of route 19 and route 6-33. police say a honda civic ... driven by a 17- year-old girl attempted to turn south on route 19 ... pulling in front of a tractor trailer. the two vehicles collided. the driver of the tractor trailer was air lifted to the hospital ... the teenager was taken by an ambulance. police say charges are pending. also new tonight ... the better business bureau is warning virginia charities about a scam circulating the state. artist claiming to be a philanthropist in london, england is calling several non-profits. 4 richmond-area charities reported emails by "ken mcfarlane" ... offering 5-figure donations. three of the charities received and deposited the checks. mcfarlane then called the charities ... claiming a mistake had been made ... and 10-thousand dollars needed to be returned. the deposited checks turned out to be fraudulent. the b-b-b says ... if the charities followed through with the

the organization suggests using caution ... if contacted by anyone offering a random large donation. governor mcauliffe announces a compromise deal with republicans on gun reform in the commonwealth. mcauliffe says ... attorney general mark herring's proposal to end reciprocity agreements with 25 other states will be dropped in return for 2 major reforms. state police can now offer background checks at gun shows and people with protective orders against them will no longer be allowed to own a gun. governor mcauliffe says these steps ... will make the commonwealth a safer place. we had 2 instances last year in virginia under a restraining order where somebody used a firearm and killed the person who was under the restraining order. the person with the restraining order went and killed somebody. this will eliminate that." we talked with state senator tom garrett ... who was originally opposed to ending reciprocity agreements with other states. he says he and several other legislators weren't expecting

what i'm doing right now is trying to figure out exactly what the governor's promising, whether or not he even has the capacity of forcing the attorney general's hand as it relates to the steps that he's taken. mcauliffe's agreement today still has to be voted on in the general assembly. right now, the move to end reciprocity agreements for concealed carry permits with the 25 other states has been delayed until march first ... when that vote is expected to happen. new tonight at 11 ... virginia reporters will once again be allowed to get an up-close look at state senate operations. g-o-p senate majority leader tommy norment had reporters banned at the start of the 20-16 legislative session earlier this month. he faced criticism from democrats ... national press organizations ... and some members of the caucus following the move. norment says he reached an agreement with members of the capitol press corps on new rules for reporting from
