these charred remains are what's left of the vehcile involved in monday's deadly crash. it was struck by a train along these tracks near the spring hollow access road. investigators say...two a-e-p workers were inside the truck when it went through the crossing...and was struck by a norfolk southern freight train. 56 year old year old william lineberry diead at th scene while crews took 22 year old johnny collins to the hospital. crews spent the afternoon searching for answers about the crash. people who live nearby say they've traveled through this area for years and can't imagine what went wrong. sot sue whitlock /lives nearby "i used to go out and walk up that road and crossing the railroad track." j.c. whitlock / lives nearby "you can see both ways real good if a train was coming." brie police say the train was not carrying hazardous material. the crash remains under invesitgation. the national transportation safety board releases its report on last year's amtrak derailment in philadelphia.... that left eight people dead... and

the n-t-s-b says there is no evidence the engineer was texting before the crash. investigators also say the data recorder showed the train's engine was working normally.. the passenger train derailed in may... as it entered a curve at 106 miles-per- hour -- more than twice the speed limit. # jury selection continues today for six alleged gang members charged with the abduction and murder of waynesboro reserve police captain kevin quick. opening statements are expected to begin as soon as jury selection finishes. the case was moved to roanoke after a judge declared a mistrial when investigators discovered one of the defendants got a list of potential jurors and shared it. this time ... all potential jurors are anonymous and referred to by number based on a questionnaire. 483 questionnaires were sent out and 87 people were chosen for phase one of jury selection. one of the defendant's lawyers talked to us about monday's proceedings. fred heblick/lawyer "it moved along reasonably well and there were no obstacles so based on what

the case to remain on schedule." the six suspects are charged on a total of 34 violations and believed to be associated with a gang that's a faction of the bloods.### a grayson county couple goes before a judge today in connection to a deadly dog attack last month. john underwood... and terra connell are scheduled to appear in grayson county general district court for a bond hearing. the two are facing second degree murder charges... after their dog mauled a fifteen -month- old they were babysitting. the child was taken to a hospital in north carolina... where she died. the couple was originally charged with felony child neglect.# in what's news today... tonight is the last community meeting on explore park. roanoke county wants your input on long term plans. explore park is a 11-hundred acre facility located on the blue ridge parkway and operated by roanoke county, virginia under a 99-year lease with the virginia recreational facilities authority established in 2013. the master plan will be

two virginia tech students appeared in court for the first time. they are charged in connection with the killing of 13-year-old nicole lovell. 18-year-old david eisenhauer is charged with first degree murder and abduction. 19-year-old natalie keepers is charged with the improper disposal of a dead body... and accessory after the fact. nicole's father--- david lovell and his family attended monday's hearing.... looking for answers. very few details are being released. according to police and arrest warrants.. eisenhauer deliberately killed the 13- year-old. nicole's father tells us that's hard to hear. david lovell/nicole's father "these two individuals took my daughter from this planet and i want to know why and i want all the information i can get." keepers hired her own attorney,,, and one was appointed for eisenhauer. the two will be back in court march 28-th.# a major police investigation will continue today in blacksburg. state police dive teams scoured a pond monday on virginia tech's campus for the second day in a

look at virginia's economic development spending... as the state spends more on incentive programs aimed at luring companies to relocate or expand here in the commonwealth. a new report shows that ongoing incentive programs have grown 84- percent since 20--10. virginia's house of delegates passes a measure that would allow schools to start before labor day. the measure would remove the requirement that schools start after labor day and allow school boards to set their own calendars. it would also require that schools that do start early .. close for the long labor day weekend.### happening today... after months of debates, meetings and surveys the montgomery school superintendent will recommend not changing school start times. instead... he says there is an opportunity to shorten the bus routes... enabling students to sleep longer. elementary students will still go to school at 9 a.m. and secondary students will still go to school around 7:45 a.m. the superintendent says they have heard from many parents that childcare would be

meeting on explore park. roanoke county wants your input on long term plans. explore park is a 11-hundred acre facility located on the blue ridge parkway and operated by roanoke county, virginia under a 99-year lease with the virginia recreational facilities authority established in 2013. the master plan will be finalized and presented to the board of supervisors next month. the meeting is tuesday, february 2 - 6pm to 8pm at south county library. virginia tech will conduct a full- scale test of its vt alerts system today in blacksburg.... and university facilities in six regions across virginia. the test happens between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. you should expect to receive duplicate messages. this redundancy is intentional... to ensure important information reaches as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time. # henry county public schools will talk about the budget tonight. a hearing is scheduled for tonight at 5:30. it was re- scheduled because of the snow storm. # area roller derby teams are coming together for an important cause tonight.

two virginia tech students first time. they are charged in connection with the killing of 13-year-old nicole lovell. 18-year-old david eisenhauer is charged with first degree murder and abduction. 19-year-old natalie keepers is charged with the improper disposal of a dead body... and accessory after the fact. nicole's father--- david lovell and his family attended monday's hearing.... looking for answers. very few details are being released. according to police and arrest warrants.. eisenhauer deliberately killed the 13- year-old. nicole's father tells us that's hard to hear.

signing up on the spot that one caucus site ran out of registration forms. i'm tracie potts in des moines, iowa - back to you. republican lawmakers say it's time for a comprehensive look at virginia's economic development spending... as the state spends more on incentive programs aimed at luring companies to relocate or expand here in the commonwealth. a new report shows that ongoing incentive programs have grown 84- percent since 20--10. some lawmakers say the state needs tighter controls on its spending in the wake of a sour deal in the lynchburg area. virginia is seeking the return of a one-point-four million dollar incentive to "lindenburg industry l-l-c." virginia's house of delegates passes a measure that would allow schools to start before labor day. the measure would remove the requirement that schools start after labor day and allow school boards to set their own calendars. it would also require that schools that do start early .. close for the long labor day weekend.### happening today... after months of debates, meetings
