morning... in the murder trial of waynesboro reserve police captain kevin quick. quick was reported missing in february 2014. his body was found a week later in goochland county. investigators say quick was shot in the head. six suspected gang members are facing charges.. four of them are charged in the murder

two are accused of being the gang's ring leaders in the racketeering conspiracy. 87 people were brought back in tuesday for phase two of jury selection... and it took nearly seven hours to narrow down to twelve jurors... and a couple alternates. this trial is expected to last three to four weeks. # new this morning.. we now know when a nelson county investigator will go on trial for two election related charges. lieutenant billy mays faces a felony charge of election fraud and a misdemeanor count of willful neglect of election law duties. this stems from a complaint that he falsely said he lived in nelson county while he was running for sheriff. the trial is set for may 31. mays also was one of the lead investigators on the alexis murphy case.### now to a wsls 10 follow up... on a story we first reported yesterday morning. danville police are offering a 10-thousand dollar reward for information leading to arrests in monday night's double-shooting. police were called to the 2- hundred block of mount vernon

doctor randolph neal says he was walking home... when two men walked up and demanded money. he was shot several times... before the suspects took off. doctor neal is recovering in the hospital. police department: "there are some certain parts of the investigation that we don't talk about. there are certain facts we like to keep closed until the investigation movies forward. its too early yo go into those types of details" a second person was shot in the 100 block of virginia avenue. released. # a new report out this morning says a record 149 people who were falsely convicted of crimes were exonerated last year in the u.s. registry of exonerations says there were 10 more exonerations last year than in 2014, which held the previous record. texas had the most with 54. new york was second with 17. according to the report, a record 58 exonerated defendants had been convicted of homicide.

we're learning more... as the investigation continues... into the murder of a blacksburg teen. on tuesday... the montgomery county commonwealth's attorney said the preliminary autopsy shows 13-year-old nicole lovell was stabbed. virginia tech student david eisenhauer is accused of kidnapping and murder. the second student... natalie keepers was originally charged with helping him get rid of the body... but authorities now say she was involved before nicole died. we still don't know how the three met.... but the washington post reports their connection may be through social media. they say the 7th grader was active on a forum called "teen dating and flirting." according to the post... the night she disappeared... nicole showed a friend text messages from an 18-year-old man she said she was planning to meet.

clues -- lovell's family is left heartbroken. tammy weeks/victim's mother: "nicole was a very lovable person. nicole touched many people throughout her short life. if convicted on all counts -- both eisenhauer and keepers could face life in prison.# nicole's family isn't alone in mourning her death. her friends and classmates are also paying tribute. students at blacksburg middle school created a series of memorials for nicole. the memorials include personal messages and memories along with drawings for nicole and her family. students and faculty also wore the color blue in her honor. if you would like to pay your respects to nicole's family ... there will be a visitation tonight ... from five until eight at mccoy funeral home in blacksburg. her funeral is thursday at three.### people in blacksburg... and the virginia tech community are sending prayers to the family of nicole lovell. while neighbors are in shock. people who live nearby say the case stunned this normally quiet and friendly community. many people can't believe

the man as well as his grandmother. police believe cameron also killed his mother, father and sister-- who were all found dead inside of the home as well.### the case against a franklin county woman accused of killing a three-year-old moves forward. hope mcvey perdue was indicted on second-degree murder and felony child abuse charges. a motions hearing is scheduled for april. a trial date is also expected to be set at that time the charges against perdue stem from the death of callen mullins .. who was in her care when he was found unresponsive by emergency crews. # new this morning.. the university of virginia student involved in a bloody encounter with state alcoholic beverage control agents has filed an amended three- million dollar lawsuit. the federal suit now makes it clear martese johnson did not know law enforcement was attempting to stop him outside trinity irish pub in march 20-15. the judge could cut one of the agents from the suit because he wasn't directly involved in the arrest. but the new claim says that agent "had a reasonable

unconstitutional arrest and the harm that resulted." the judge said he would likely cut two counts from the lawsuit which target virginia a- b-c and its director.### new this morning... american schools get a failing grade for financial literacy education... according to a new study. studies show high school graduates who have taken a personal finance course are more likely to pay their bills on time, and get higher credit scores as adults. here in virginia... an "economics and personal finance" class was phased in for ninth graders in 2011... becoming a graduation requirement. the class of 2015 was the first class had to meet the requirement. but how to manage your money is a lesson many u-s schools are failing to teach. sot: charlotte palmer, former student "when you learn from parents it feels like you are just told to put your money in a piggy bank. when you learn in a classroom it is seeing in a broader scope what's going to happen to me when i grow up." sot: patricia page, teacher "we were graduating a whole generation of students that were going to be

and i'm... patrick mckee. democratic and republican presidential hopefuls have set their sights on new hampshire... where it feels like the intensity has been turned up a notch. republicans see a crack in donald trump's armor after his second place finish to ted cruz. and marco rubio surprised everyone.. by almost beating trump-- finishing a close third. sot: donald trump/ r presidential candidate :27-:38 "we got the biggest vote ever in the history of a primary in iowa by like 60,000 people came out extra. i'm not going to say that was me, but believe me it was me." meanwhile senator bernie sanders says he raised three million dollars in donations since his moral victory in iowa. clinton trails sanders in recent new hampshire polls by double digits but she hopes to turn that around before tuesday's primary vote. hollins university political analyst ed lynch says the big wins in iowa for clinton and cruz mean very different things. he says cruz is looking surprisingly strong... while clinton might have more to worry about.

candidates may be looking at a very long race, with sanders expected to win in the upcoming new hampshire primary. on the proving projections wrong by beating donald trump, the field is more muddied than ever. patients and caretakers for virginians with severe epilepsy are asking lawmakers to medical marijuana. last year, the legislature and governor agreed to provide legal protection at state level for those possessing medical marijuana oil for treatment of epilepsy. but those families have returned to richmond because there's no system in place for them to get the medication in the commonwealth. medical cannabis oil is not supposed to create highs, and for many of the families, they say it's been the only treatment that's helped alleviate seizures. lisa smith, parent "it's just amazing to have a daughter that you can interact with more, that you're not constantly stressed about something that could take her life. story we first reported yesterday morning. danville police are offering a 10-thousand dollar reward for information leading to arrests in monday night's double-shooting. police were called to the 2- hundred block of mount vernon avenue.. where 49-year-old doctor randolph neal says he was walking home... when two men walked up and demanded money. he was shot several times... before the suspects took off. doctor neal is recovering in the hospital. "lt. mike wallace/danvill e police department: "there are some certain parts of the investigation that we don't talk about. there are certain facts we like to keep closed until the investigation movies forward. its too early yo go into those types of details" a second person was shot in the 100 block of virginia avenue. that person has been treated and released. # a new report out this morning says a record 149 people who were falsely convicted of crimes were exonerated last year in the u.s. the report by the national registry of exonerations says there were 10 more exonerations

we're learning more... as the investigation continues... into the murder of a blacksburg teen. on tuesday... the montgomery county commonwealth's attorney said the preliminary autopsy shows 13-year-old nicole lovell was stabbed. virginia tech student david eisenhauer is accused of kidnapping and murder. the second student... natalie keepers was originally charged with helping him get rid of the body... but authorities now say she was involved before nicole died. we still don't know how the three met.... but the washington post reports their connection may be through social media.

active on a forum called "teen dating and flirting." according to the post... the night she disappeared... nicole showed a friend text messages from an 18-year-old man she said she was planning to meet. as investigators search for more clues -- lovell's family is left heartbroken. tammy weeks/victim's mother: "nicole was a very lovable person. nicole touched many people throughout her short life. if convicted on all counts -- both eisenhauer and keepers could face life in prison.# nicole's family isn't alone in mourning her death. her friends and classmates are also paying tribute. students at blacksburg middle school created a series of memorials for nicole. the memorials include personal messages and memories along with drawings for nicole and her family. students and faculty also wore the color blue in her honor. if you would like to pay your respects to nicole's family ... there will be a visitation tonight ... from five until eight at mccoy funeral home in blacksburg. her funeral is thursday at

police say 26- year-old cameron dooley shot and killed five family members before killing himself. officers were called to a home last wednesday for a welfare check. when they arrived they found one man dead inside. police then headed to another family member's home in the same neighborhood.. and found cameron inside refusing to leave. while negotiating with police .. he admitted to killing the man as well as his grandmother. police believe cameron also killed his mother, father and sister-- who were all found dead inside of the home as well.### the case against a franklin county woman accused of killing a three-year-old moves forward. hope mcvey perdue was indicted on second-degree murder and felony child abuse charges. a motions hearing is scheduled for april. a trial date is also expected to be set at that time the charges against perdue stem from the death of callen mullins .. who was in her care when he was found unresponsive by emergency crews. # new this morning.. the university of virginia student involved in a bloody encounter with state alcoholic

has filed an amended three- million dollar lawsuit. the federal suit now makes it clear martese johnson did not know law enforcement was attempting to stop him outside trinity irish pub in march 20-15. the judge could cut one of the agents from the suit because he wasn't directly involved in the arrest. but the new claim says that agent "had a reasonable opportunity to prevent martese's unconstitutional arrest and the harm that resulted." the judge said he would likely cut two counts from the lawsuit which target virginia a- b-c and its director.### new this morning... american schools get a failing grade for financial literacy education... according to a new study. studies show high school graduates who have taken a personal finance course are more likely to pay their bills on time, and get higher credit scores as adults. here in virginia... an "economics and personal finance" class was phased in for ninth graders in 2011... becoming a graduation requirement.

democratic and republican presidential hopefuls have set their sights on new hampshire... where it feels like the intensity has been turned up a notch. republicans see a crack in donald trump's armor after his second place finish to ted cruz. and marco rubio surprised everyone.. by almost beating trump-- finishing a close third. sot: donald trump/ r presidential candidate :27-:38 "we got the biggest vote ever in the history of a primary in iowa by like 60,000 people came out extra. i'm not going to say that was me, but believe me it was me." meanwhile senator bernie sanders says he raised three million dollars in donations since his moral victory in iowa. clinton trails sanders in recent new hampshire polls by double digits but she hopes to turn that around before tuesday's primary vote. hollins university political analyst ed lynch says the big wins in iowa for clinton and cruz mean very different things. he says cruz is looking surprisingly strong... while clinton might have more to worry about. for democrats, this means the candidates may be looking at a

long race, with sanders expected to win in the upcoming new hampshire primary. on the republican side, with cruz proving projections wrong by beating donald trump, the field is more muddied than ever. patients and caretakers for virginians with severe epilepsy are asking lawmakers to help them gain easier access to medical marijuana. last year, the legislature and governor agreed to provide legal protection at state level for those possessing medical marijuana oil for treatment of epilepsy. but those families have returned to richmond because there's no system in place for them to get the medication in the commonwealth. medical cannabis oil is not supposed to create highs, and for many of the families, they say that's helped alleviate seizures. lisa smith, parent "it's just amazing to have a daughter that you can interact with more, that you're not constantly stressed about something that could take her life.
