a franklin county woman is now charged in connection with the suspicious death of an infant. the rocky mount police chief says ... the autopsy revealed the baby was a still born. the baby's body was found in a dumpster at the franklin county dump sites. 24-year-old katherine dellis is charged with unlawful concealment of human remains. town leaders are sharing their thoughts. matthew hankins/assistan t town manager - "that's about the most rotten thing you can hear, it's not something you want to hear in particular associated with your town it's an unfortunate circumstance and its shaken a lot of people hear in the community." dellis is being held in the roanoke city jail. # fighting child abuse is the top priority in pulaski. a strong

ridership. amtrak is expect to extend its service to roanoke sometime next year. # the virginia house of delegates will recognize former virginia tech football head coach frank beamer today. he will be presented a copy of the resolution which was passed by both the house and the senate. beamer retired at the end of the last football season after 29 leading the team. medical students take to the basketball court tonight for the annual docs for morgan event. students from the virginia tech carilion school of medicine will face off against carilion clinic doctors and jefferson college of health sciences students. proceeds benefit the morgan harrington memorial scholarship fund at vtc.### new this morning... it's a big anniversary for a local school. the roanoke valley governor's school is celebrating 30 years of teaching students. together... 270 students from seven school districts study science and math. dr. john kowalski... is the school director. he's been at the school for 29 of

hunger continues to be a problem here in our region - our region - according to feeding america - who serves meals to more than 127 thousand people each month...almost 13 percent of people in southwest virginia do not always know where they will find their next meal. that's about one in eight people. so chances are you know someone who struggles with providing meals for their families. feeding america works uses food drives like the one we are doing today to help stock area food pantries and soup kitchens--- there are about 400 in our area. i spoke with the 82nd airbourne christian soldiers food pantry in roanoke that see's more than 100 different people each day they open their doors.

the blacksburg teenager killed by a virginia tech student will be laid to rest today. the funeral for nicole lovell takes place at 3 this afternoon at mccoy funeral home in blacksburg. wednesday was a somber day as hundreds of family, friends, police officers and others gathered for nicole's visitation. they shared memories of the young girl who touched so many lives. katie wilson/ family friend 3:28:28 remember her as the happy child she was the girl everybody loved. the smiling colie" a memorial fund for the family has been set up at the national bank of blacksburg. donations will be used to help with incidentals. remaining funds will be used to start a scholarship in nicole's name.### one of the virginia tech students facing charges in the stabbing death of 13-year-old nicole lovell will be in court today for a bond hearing. court documents show attorney's for "natalie keepers" filed paperwork to request bond.

a bill aimed at teaching teens about healthy relationships makes its way through the general assembly. the bill would require school districts to include education about relationships in high school health classes. students would learn about dating and violence.. emotional health... and age appropriate relationships. camille cooper, protect:" like every teenager in the whole wide world, you know and she was looking for friends and she found the wrong one. "butted"you can't just hand your children a tablet, a laptop, or a phone and not expect them to run into danger out there." parents say getting teens to recognize potential dangers could help prevent tragedies. # at least nine cases of the zika virus have turned up in florida. all the cases are in four counties where health emergencies have been declared. it's believed that all of the cases are from people who contracted the disease while traveling to affected countries. typically transmitted through mosquitoes.. the virus is now being sexually

the latest case was reported in texas.### we're hearing from a virginia woman... with a rare virus. the first confirmed zika case in virginia happened in rockingham county. longtime missionary-- heather baker-- said she knew something was wrong starting in late november. she returned from a trip to guatemala... her fourth trip in the past year and a half. heather baker/zika patient"it began with just a swollen lymph node, which definitely tipped me off that something was coming, and then progressed to some body aches and a really weird rash and joint pain," she was tested for other illnesses... but those results came back negative. baker says the past few weeks have been about managing her symptoms... and learning more about the virus. the mother of three likely contracted zika in central america.... but plans to return to continue her missionary work when she get better. # in this morning's 10 cares heart health, exercise greatly reduces the risk for heart disease, but most of us aren't getting enough.

latest thing donald has tweeted - because he's losing it." a recent roanoke college political poll places democratic presidential hopeful bernie sanders in the lead ... for virginia voters. the poll shows clinton is statistically tied with republican hopefuls ted cruz and marco rubio. donald trump has the lowest favorable rating ... with just 22- percent. # the way virginia executes criminals is now under review in the general assembly. one bill would allow the state to use the electric chair if lethal injection cannot be carried out. the bill would put inmates to death using the electric chair if the state cannot access lethal injection drugs-- which has been an ongoing problem. right now inmates get the option to chose between the two methods. sen. scott surovell, d-36th district: "effectively what an electric chair does is cook a human being to death. i don't think that comports with due process, i think it's cruel and unusual punishment. i don't think that's a humane way to kill people." the discussion comes as an execution is scheduled to be

the missing blacksburg teenager who was murdered over the weekend will be laid to rest today. the funeral for nicole lovell at blacksburg. wednesday was a somber day as hundreds of family, friends, police officers and others gathered for nicole's visitation. they shared memories of the lives. katie wilson/ family friend 3:28:28 remember her as the happy child she was the girl everybody loved. the smiling colie" has blacksburg. donations will be used to help incidentals. remaining funds will be used to start a scholarship in nicole's name.### one of the virginia tech students facing charges in the stabbing death of 13-year-old nicole lovell will be in court today for a bond hearing. court documents show attorney's for "natalie keepers" filed paperwork to request bond. the 19-year-old is charged with accessory before the fact to first-degree murder ... and improper disposal of a body.

the first confirmed case happened in rockingham county. longtime missionary-- heather baker-- said she knew something was wrong starting in late november. she returned from a trip to guatemala... her fourth trip in the past year and a half. heather baker/zika patient"it began with just a swollen lymph node, which definitely tipped me off that something was coming, and then progressed to some body aches and a really weird rash and joint pain," she was tested for other illnesses... but those results came back negative. baker says the past few weeks have been about managing her symptoms... and learning more about the virus. the mother of three likely contracted zika in central america.... but plans to return to continue her missionary work when she get better. # in this morning's 10 cares heart health, exercise greatly reduces the risk for heart disease, but most of us aren't getting enough. a new study from the cleveland clinic finds 40 percent of us are not meeting the minimum recommendations for exercise. those guidelines include 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week of

every day and laugh at the latest thing donald has tweeted - because he's losing it." a recent roanoke college political poll places democratic presidential hopeful bernie sanders in the lead ... for virginia voters. the poll shows clinton is statistically tied with republican hopefuls ted cruz and marco rubio. donald trump has the lowest favorable rating ... with just 22- percent. # the way virginia executes criminals is now under review in the general assembly. one bill would allow the state to use the electric chair if lethal injection cannot be carried out. the bill would put inmates to death using the electric chair if the state cannot access lethal injection drugs-- which has been an ongoing problem. right now inmates get the option to chose between the two methods. sen. scott surovell, d-36th district: "effectively what an electric chair does is cook a human being to death. i don't think that comports with due process, i think it's cruel and unusual punishment. i don't think that's a humane way to kill people." the discussion comes as an execution is scheduled to be held next month.###
