highs in the upper 40s. tonight: mostly clear with lows in the mid to upper 20s. sunday: sun and clouds with highs in the low 50s. winter makes a comeback on cuts in the hill city. genworth financial is laying more than 200-employees in lynchburg. it's a move by the company to restructure and sell part of its business. this is related to the company's decision to suspend life insurance and fixed annuity sales. wsls ten's duke carter reports. we spoke with lynchburg mayor michael gillette over the phone about his reaction to genworth financial laying off 200 workers. in short, he says not too worried.

the layoff yesterday and was told by leaders at genworth financial they are committed to staying in the lynchburg area. gillette also says he's hopeful genworth financial---- once the business is stable will eventually hire back some of its workers. the mayor also says while it is serious that people are losing their jobs some he hopeful some who worked at genworth financial will be able to transition and find work in lynchburg. sot the mayor says while a shooting goes unsolved, a genworth financial laying says not too worried. gillette says he learned about the layoff yesterday and was told by leaders at genworth financial they are

lynchburg area. gillette also goes unsolved, a community is making a commitment to work together to end violent crime in their city. this comes after two people, including a doctor at a danville hospital were shot monday night. last night, residents gathered at danville regional medical center to hear from community leaders and then go on a walk along the streets around the hospital. the hospital's ceo encouraged people to share ideas as they talked about how to help reduce crime. jerry hankins/danville resident "i think you're going to ned more community involvement and people, instead of sitting there and not saying anything, i think they need to start speaking out." both victims are expected to survive. multiple anonymous sources have offered a total of 30- thousand dollars in reward money for information leading to the

whoever is responsible for the shootings. turning to national headlines ... a michigan man is behind bars this morning after federal authorities say he has ties to isis. investigators arrested the man after monitoring his twitter account and gun purchases. no answer at the dearborn heights home of khalil abu rayyan. and this is a photo that the fbi is using against the 22 year old, claiming that abu-rayyan holding up one finger is part of his alleged support for isis. the feds say they've been watching abu rayyan since last may, because of his pro-isis twitter posts, his gun purchases & his own words. words that send a chill through dearborn attorney majed moughni. majed moughani s/majed moughni/attorn ey "he's intent on committing mass murder, i think that's terrifying moughni is not representing abu-rayyan, but is reacting to the on-line conversations abu-rayyan had with someone he didn't know was an undercover fbi agent. telling

had an ak-47 and quote: i tried to shoot up a church one day. it's one of the biggest ones in detroit. i had it planned out. i bought a bunch of bullets. i practiced reloading and unloading. the complaint doesn't specify which detroit church abu- rayyan was allegedly planning to attack, only that it was close to his work and could seat 6,000 members. the complaint quotes abu- rayyan as saying: it's easy, and a lot of people go there. plus people are not allowed to carry guns in church. plus it would make the news. everybody would've heard. honestly i regret not doing it. if i can't do jihad in the middle east, i would do my jihad over here. the complaint quotes abu- rayyan as saying that he also armed himself with a large knife - allegedly saying "i would gladly behead people if i needed to. it is my dream to behead someone. s/majed moughni/attorn ey the fbi should be credited for putting this case together and we have a criminal behind bars"

court on monday afternoon for a detention hearing. terror charges could be added at a later date. twitter is using technology to seek out accounts that might promote terrorist activity. the company has suspended more than 125- thousand accounts for threatening or promoting terrorist acts in the last eight months. the company says those suspended accounts were mainly linked to isis. social media has increasingly become a tool for recruitment and radicalization used by isis and its supporters. ... the search continues for a missing northern virginia woman. 22-year-old sarah waye was last seen in fairfax wednesday afternoon. she was driving a black 2009 toyota yaris police say the girl has been treated for mental health conditions and her family is concerned for her welfare. she's been entered into the national crime information center as a missing person.

asked to call police. a nurse at the hampton veteran's administration hospital is convicted of sexually assaulting a patient. 52-year old juan lopez is found guilty of aggravated sexual assault and lying to federal agents. court documents state lopez was treating a victim back in september, administered morphine against the patient's wishes then sexually assaulted her multiple times. lopez could face life in prison. he is due back in court may 19-th. some western virginia parents are upset after some students were denied school lunch. it happened at richlands high school. parents say students at the school were unable to eat --- even if their accounts were only one dollar and fifty-cents in debts. the school's principal says she gave cafeteria workers a list of 15 students who she had previously talked to about their accounts. valentine's day is approaching and what better way and according to one tokyo restaurant, nothing says romance like chocolate noodles. in honor of valentine's day, mensho tokyo is serving ramen with a generous amount of chocolate added in. the restaurant's manager says the chocolate ramen is popular --- bringing in more than 100 orders in the first four days. people in tokyo can enjoy the sweet noodles until valentine's day for about seven dollars a bowl. have you ever thought about what animals do when we aren't watching them. rare video footage catches two alligators going at it in florida. while the video here is in slow motion, it could be very frightening for a bystander. the reptiles wrestled around for a while until one finally has the last shot --- landing them both in the water.

monday as a clipper system people are dead and more than 400 hurt this morning following a massive earthquake in taiwan. according to taiwan's national fire agency, the earthquake registered at a six-point-four magnitude. two high-rise residential towers collapsed during the natural disaster. authorities say a total of nine buildings were damaged and five more were left tilted from the shakes and trembles. most people were asleep when the earthquake hit. and new york officials continue searching working to determine what caused a huge construction

highs in the low 50s. it's been a great week here in southwest virginia ... here's a look back at some of this week's best moments. wsls ten teamed up with feeding america southwest virginia and kroger to help fight hunger. nearly 13- thousand pounds of food was collected during the 10 cares food drive. this converts to more than 10- thousand meals across the region for people in need. the food drive was held thursday at kroger in roanoke, lynchburg, martinsville and blacksburg. governor terry mcauliffe proclaims "frank beamer day." the official day february fourth. he made the declaration as virginia tech came to the capitol

delegates honored the former hokies head football coach with a copy of the resolution .. which was passed by both the house and the senate. beamer says he was honored. beamer retired at the end of the last football season after 29 years leading the team. the montgomery county sheriff's office announces a new partnership with local organization help save the next girl. new sheriff hank partin revealed plans for a help save the next girl wrap that will go on a patrol car in the next few weeks. he also says a main priority is to get a chapter of the organization in every montgomery county high school. right now.. auburn and eastern montgomery high school are the only ones without it. the sheriff's office also plans to reach out to the community for more ideas on how the organizations can partner and spread the word about safety. the greater richmond transit center is flashing

morphine against the patient's wishes then sexually assaulted her multiple times. lopez could face life in prison. he is due back in court may 19-th. some western virginia parents are upset after some students were denied school lunch. it happened at richlands high school. parents say students at the school were unable to eat --- even if their accounts were only one dollar and fifty-cents in debts. the school's principal says she gave cafeteria workers a list of 15 students who she had previously talked to about their accounts. this morning following a massive earthquake in taiwan. according to taiwan's national fire agency, the earthquake registered at a six-point-four magnitude. two high-rise residential towers collapsed during the natural disaster. authorities say a total of nine buildings were damaged and five more were left tilted from the shakes and trembles. most people were asleep when the earthquake hit. a search is underway for three people after two planes collided near the port of los angeles. according to authorities, there's no sign of survivors after hours of searching. the collision happened around 3-thirty friday afternoon. coast guard captain jennifer williams says two men and one woman was aboard the plane. the sheriff's department is in recovery mode, so they're doing diving and sonar operations which we are coordinating with the sheriffs. however, the coast guard's hopeful that we
