and neglect case against ashley white. she faces three charges in connection to the death of her son, noah thomas. today-- seven more jurors must be selected for the trial to begin. this comes after jury selection started yesterday morning in the pulaski courtroom. lawyers worked throughout the day... and ended up with fifteen potential jurors. about half of the people what were called in for jury duty were sent home. many stated they had already made up their minds.. and believed white was guilty. others say white must prove to them she's innocent, rather than the prosecution proving she is guilty-- as the law states must happen. after jury selection finishes today.. there will be 22-total jurors. then both the defense and prosecution will get four strikes each.. bringing the jury down to twelve members and two alternates. the remainder of the jury selection process will start at morning. the commonwealth's witnesses have been told to report to the courthouse by two o-clock this afternoon. i'm erin brookshier, wsls 10. a former bedford police officer

today... after being indicted on six felonies for possession of child pornography. a bedford grand jury indicted mcalexander. he was arrested in henry county... and is being held without bond. police chief todd foreman says it's disappointing... and upsetting. the southern virginia crimes against children task force investigated this case... and says mcalexander was the target of an investigation centered around file sharing programs. lt. mike harmony/southe rn virginia icac - "it's sad i can tell you that much. anytime that someone who is in the eye of the public and has the faith of the public betrays that it's sad." mcalexander served in the bedford police department for more than 25 years. # cases like the one against mcalexander aren't uncommon. southern virginia i-cac says it investigates cases involving people of all backgrounds. the agency was one of the original task forces in 1998 and today is one of 61 throughout

hundreds of local... county and state agencies. an investigator tells us he's seen child pornography cases involving teachers and clergy. he says some of the trends he's seeing now include self- victimization ... children taking inappropriate pictures of themselves and incest. sgt. chris edmondson/sou thern virginia icac: "i've been a police officer for over 40 years and still what i've seen in the last here amazes me. i thought in my length i've seen it all. not even close." in addition to conducting investigations, southern virginia i-cac also trains people on internet safety. ### new this morning.. a record number of people applied of 2020. applicants is a 12 percent increase over last year. every college saw an increase. the most significant being a 25 percent increase in the human sciences... college of natural resources and environment. the

record-breaking increase to the academics and sense of community at virginia tech... and believes students value the personalized admissions process. # in what's news today... the salem school board will recognize one of its teachers after she was named virginia's teacher of the year. natalie difusco-funk teaches 5th grade at west salem elementary school. she started her career in massachusetts where she taught for seven year. she then moved to virginia, teaching in botetourt county before moving to salem. montgomery county schools holds a public meeting to talk about building projects. the school system will talk about the next steps in planning for capital improvements. school leaders will present the district's capital improvements program and talk about possible solutions for elementary schools in christiansburg. middle and high school teachers will participate in a professional enrichment session at the jefferson college of health sciences. speakers will talk about their work and give teachers ideas of how to talk to their students about real-world

time now for your timesaver traffic report. people from blacksburg and virginia tech gathered at a candlelight vigil to remember the life of nicole lovell. the 13-year-old went missing late last month. a few days later .. her body was found in north carolina. two virginia tech students remain in jail in connection to her death. wsls 10's brie jackson has more.### brie organizers say they wanted tonight's vigil to bring people together as one. they hope to have nicole's memory associated with building a greater sense of community.

she hurt the victim and set her home on fire. the fire marshall says that a sword and baseball bat were found in the rubble and there was a strong smell of kerosene. search warrants also show beskin's d-n-a inside the home.### new this morning... a dog is alive and recovering... after being stabbed in danville. the danville area humane society is offering a reward up to one thousand dollars for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. police officers found the female pitbull on the street over the weekend... and took it to the vet. cruelty to animals is punishable by a fine... or up to a year in jail. no word on if the dog has an owner. she will be up for adoption friday. # the man wanted at the center of an amber alert over the weekend turns himself in to police. the fluvanna county sheriff's office says 25- year-old james moses took his three-year-old daughter haven moses from a caretakers home friday night. police located haven sunday night. investigators say moses has a history of child abuse. in 2013

raping and sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl.### new this morning.. a michigan family filed a lawsuit over the toxic levels of lead in the drinking water in flint. sophia waid's parents say the two-year-old has high levels of lead in her bloodstream. lead that flowed through the faucets in her home. the tap water was contaminated... after the source switched from detroit to the flint river in 2014. the cost-cutting move was made while the city was under state financial management. the family's lawyers are now suing the city and state... in the first individual lawsuit stemming from the contamination. luke waid, sophia's father "it's just it's ah it's really putting parents in between a rock and hard spot here. :12 you know, we have children that, that we really care about and we want the best for and it seems like our city officials do not care. currently sophia is on a strict vegatarian diet... she eats only organic and non- g-m-o foods. # in 10 cares heart health .. the

traffic report. people from blacksburg and virginia tech gathered at a candlelight vigil to remember the life of nicole lovell. the 13-year-old went missing late last month. a few days later .. her body was found in north carolina. two virginia tech students remain in jail in connection to her death. wsls 10's brie jackson has more.### brie organizers say they wanted tonight's vigil to bring people together as one. they hope to have nicole's memory associated with building a greater sense of community. tonight they celebrated the 13 year old's life and wanted showed support to her family during this extremely difficult time. take vo on this cold and snowy night. hundreds gathered in downtown blackburg for a candlight vigil to honor nicole lovell.

we're continuing to follow the trial of ashley white.. the mother of a five year old who went missing nearly a year ago. after an extensive five day search in pulaski county... 5-year old noah thomas was found in a septic tank on his family's property. investigators say he drowned.. with hypothermia contributing to his death. the trial against his mother started yesterday.. and is expected to last all week.. w-s-l-s 10's erin brookshier has more on what we can expect today in court. today the final jurors are expected to be seated in the case. after jury selection ran all day yesterday.. the court still needs seven more jurors before the trial for ashley white can officially begin. jury selection in the case began early yesterday morning.. and by the end of the day, fifteen jurors had been selected. many of the people that were called in for jury duty were sent home.. after some said they had already made up their minds-- and believed white was guilty. other say she must prove to them that she is innocent, rather

over the toxic levels of lead in the drinking water in flint. sophia waid's parents say the two-year-old has high levels of lead in her bloodstream. lead that flowed through the faucets in her home. the tap water was contaminated... after the source switched from detroit to the flint river in 2014. the cost-cutting move was made while the city was under state financial management. the family's lawyers are now suing the city and state... in the first individual lawsuit stemming from the contamination. luke waid, sophia's father "it's just it's ah it's really putting parents in between a rock and hard spot here. :12 you know, we have children that, that we really care about and we want the best for and it seems like our city officials do not care. currently sophia is on a strict vegatarian diet... she eats only organic and non- g-m-o foods. # in 10 cares heart health .. the parents of a georgia teen are talking about the importance of learning how to use defibrillators... after the device saved their daughter's life. the teen was playing in a
