wsls 10's bethany teague was in the courtroom all day into late this evening... and has more on what's next in this case. a pulaski county judge grants the change of venue request for ashley white, but her trial will still happen in pulaski county. vo after an hour and a half of consideration, judge bradley finch decided there was too much prejudice in pulaski county to give white a fair trial. he said 60 percent of the potential jurors were disqualified, and that is quote an extremely large percentage for any jury trial. then, the prosecution immediately withdrew its request for a jury trial, which it made last year, and requested a bench trial. the defense ultimately agreed with that. at just after 8:30 tuesday night, it was determined that judge finch will decide

the bench trial will begin thursday morning at 9 o'clock. the prosecution says it believes facts are facts, that judge finch will give both sides a fair trial, and that holding a jury trial in a different place would likely cost millions of dollars. in pulaski bethany teague wsls 10. a search is underway tonight in rocky mount for a suspect police say .. robbed a family pharmacy in the schewels plaza. police say the suspect -- 26- year-old joshua cundiff came into the pharmacy a little after five p-m.. pulled out a gun.. and demanded narcotics. a warrant has been issued for cundiff's arrest for armed robbery. anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the rocky mount police department. the results are in from the nation's first primary in new hampshire. republican candidate donald trump and democrat bernie sanders came out on top tonight. nbc's steve handlesman has

presidential candidate 1:06- 1:13 "now we take this campaign to the entire country we're gong to fight for every vote in every state" now money matters. she's spent a lot and bernie sanders will raise a lot because of tonight insert ends two second pause audio outcue: i'm steve handelsman, nbc news, washington. the u-s supreme court temporarily blocks the obama administration's plan to limit greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. under the e-p-a's clean power plan, states would be required to meet specific carbon emission reduction standards based on their energy consumption. the court sided with states and industry groups that wanted the regulation delayed while they challenge its legality. a federal appeals court will hear arguments in june. new tonight at eleven... if you get caught speeding through parts of roanoke county ... it could soon cost you a pretty penny. tonight the roanoke county board of supervisors discussed ways to improve safety

possible solution on the table involves a hefty fine. wsls 10's brie jackson join us with details. brie. .how much money are we talking about here? county leaders are considering a $200 enhanced fine for speeding through certain residential neighborhoods. that fine would be in addition to other fees. the proposal comes after residents expressed concerns about speeding and other traffic problems. now board of supervisors are looking at whether increasing penalties is the right solution. nats of traffic traffic through neighborhoods is a safety concern for roanoke residents. police say residential speeding is one of the biggest complaints they recieve. nats of presentation during this board of supervisors meeting tuesday, roanoke county police chief howard hall highlighted areas with traffic troubles. hall says officers looked at tickets and warnings given in residential areas over a three year period. they found view avenue had the highest total number of citations with 489.

drivers along hunting hills and issued 274 warnings or tickets on keagy rd. mark morton lives on canter drive and voiced concerns about speeders there. mark morton / concerned about speeders 44-48 9:47:15 there is only one concern and that is safety for the residents, in particularly my child and family and all the child in an effort to improve safety, the county is now examing possible solutions. they include reducing the speed limit and increasing fines in certain residential neighborhoods. 1:01-1:05 9:44:01 assuming that the community weighs in on that positively and the board of supervisors approve that could result in a $200 enhanced fine for residential speeding nats 9:41:01 i can't support a resolution for $200. supervisor joseph mcnamara says he supports solving the speeding problem but believes an additional $200 dollar penalty is too high. others disagree... supervisor joseph mcnamara 1:26-1:29 9:40:22 i have people who work for me that if they get a

be able to get some relative to help pay for it. mark morton / concerned about speeders 9:47:58 some people cant afford an increased fine. my rebuttal to that is how much will they be able to afford when someone is injured. morton says he wants the county to consider a more proactive approach to enforcing speed limits. 9:49:45 to me speed humps are the best solution. once again...this is just a proposed plan the police chief presented to county leaders. they are looking at increasing fines, community service and other options for calming traffic. chief hall says he plans to work with supervisors to figure out the best way to keep people safe. in studio .. brie jackson wsls 10 the american red cross is assisting a bassett family after their home was destroyed by a fire. it happened just before 2 a-m this morning on trenthill drive. six people were inside at the time, but all got out safely. several cats and dogs were also inside... one dog died in the fire but the other pets are okay. the fire chief says flamable items

so on and she sent me a screenshot of a few of those and let me know, hey dad you know my little sister's screwing up here. y'all need to do something." you can see the full episode tomorrow at four p-m... right here on wsls 10. the family of a danville murder victim is feeling a greater sense of closure tonight .. after the suspect plead guilty. christy beskin plead guilty to charges of second-degree murder and arson today. prosecutors say she and her friend donna hiatt- lanier were drinking and doing drugs at donna's home on march 15-th of last year.. when they got into an argument. beskin later admitted to beating lanier to death and then setting her house on fire. lanier's family members say.. it was an emotional day in court. wayne aaron/victim's cousin: "just a touch of closure. i think today was very emotional for the entire family; just hearing little things that maybe we hadn't heard before." beskin is scheduled to be

she could face up to 50 years in prison. a former p-g-a professional and his girlfriend are under investigation for allegedly embezzling money from the bedford country club. according to search warrants, michael thompson was responsible for managing day-to- day operations while michelle clark worked as a club attendant. the bedford country club is working with state police over the missing money. court documents show.. there were several inconsistencies -- like membership dues not applied to members' accounts... cash withdrawn from the club's debit card... and little or no cash deposited in snack bar records. police linked thompson and clark via their involvement in day-to-day finances... and are looking into their bank accounts. sam hodges/preside nt of board of directors bedford country club - "as far as the country club goes were fine ... financially were fine were doing some renovations in the spring looking forward a great pool and golf season this upcoming spring and summer." the commonwealth's attorney says thompson and clark have not been charged.

police to complete their investigation. attorney general mark herring... along with federal... state... and local law enforcement agencies are cracking down on the heroin epidemic here in the commonwealth. today... herring announced plans specifically for the tidewater region .. where he's assigned a prosecutor to work with the u-s attorney's office to focus on high priority cases. he says the issue spans across the entire state -- noting 728 virginians died in 20-14 from heroin and prescription drug overdoses. attorney general mark herring when you're talking about drugs this dangerous, this addictive and this deadly, all it takes is a few bad actors to create a real public health crisis in the last year and a half - herring says he's prosecuted more than 28 cases involving heroin. montgomery circuit court clerk erica williams has one week to provide information to

more than 20- thousand dollars of tax payer money. the board voted four-to-three to begin the inquiry of williams. this after she did not reappoint four of her staff members after being re-elected. supervisor chair chris tuck says the board specifically asked williams to increase retention rates in the past... however during her term, there turnover rate. james willis, who started a petition to oust williams from office, says it's a good move. james willis, started petition: "the board of supervisors does have some control over the money that's given to the constitutional officers and it's only responsible for them to take a look and make sure that money is being used wisely." we reached out to williams for comment... but have not heard back. a local program is helping the community accomplish the same goal... lose weight. still ahead -- the progress participants have made so far...

as we start another month in 20-16 .. a roanoke business is hoping folks will have a "ton of fun." a ton of fun losing a ton of weight. fleet feet is four weeks into a new program helping people get healthy. during the week .. the store fits customers with running gear .. but on saturday mornings more than a hundred people fill the space to learning about healthy eating and exercise. so far .. 105 have lost 488 pounds. if you're interested in a "ton of fun" .. you can still join in. meetings are saturday morning .. at 9:30 at fleet feet on route 2- 20. well, it was another cold day

friday will be partly sunny and not quite as cold with highs in the middle 30s. the winds actually look to stay elevated through at least part of the weekend. the weekend looks for the most part dry, but continued cold. saturday will once again see more clouds west and more sun east with a mountain flurries possible early in the day. sunday, though, looks mostly sunny for all! temperatures will go back down again, only reaching the mid-to-upper 20s on saturday and the upper 20s on sunday. things look to change again on monday. another disturbance from the west will impact the region, bringing another round of precipitation.

energy efficiency doesn't pick favorites. it should apply to everyone. i'm zach bacon with appalachian power. i'm an energy efficiency coordinator here in virginia. to me, it's all about being able to help our customers learn energy efficiency. this partnership with appalachian power allows us to touch more families in this region that really need it.
