danville. just after two this morning .. officers responded to a call on stonewall court. police say a 21- year old man and 22-year old woman were shot. both are expected to be okay. they told police they were driving through the intersection of first and abbott streets when it happened. this comes as many people in danville are working together to bring an end to violent crime in the city. the community will gather again tonight for a prayer vigil and neighborhood walk at the boys and girls club. last friday the danville regional medical center hosted a similar event where community leaders and supporters talked about reducing crime after a double shooting. ### new details on the bench trial of ashley white .... the commonwealth's attorney has rested its case. the defense is now arguing the prosecution has not provided enough evidence to convict white ... and that all they have proved is she fell asleep while she was home with noah and his younger sister. the prosecution fired back saying white knew the house was dangerous and the lid on the septic tank was loose. white's

landlord is responsible for the maintenance of the septic tank and white cannot be held responsible. the defense is asking the judge to drop the charges against white. ### this is a developing story ... we'll have continuing coverage of the trial on our website wsls dot com and tonight starting at five. members of the bedford county sheriff's office are wear blue ribbons on their uniforms today. it's part of a nationwide association. responders and supporters to wear or display blue in a show of solidarity after a string of deadly attacks on law enforcement this week. three sheriff's deputies were shot and killed in two attacks in this week. a georgia police officer was killed by a wanted suspect thursday... and in north dakota a police officer was shot yesterday morning in a survive. keep cg up entrie sotpaul laney/ cass county sheriff "people are hunting us. and how do you think that sits with us? but yet we wear this badge with honor and pride

day and protect our communities." there will also be a nationwide moment of silence at 1 this afternoon.### new details following a massive fire in campbell county. that fire has been contained. it started around three- thirty thursday afternoon at the dan river plant in brookneal. between 75 and 90 fire fighters have battled the flames. campbell county's fire marshall says the fire is unusual because of it's size. the blaze took over the 335- thousand square foot facility which used to be a textile plant, but has been shut down. over the past six months.. a recycling plant has been in the process of tearing it apart piece by piece. aside from the cold, the biggest challenge crews have faced when resources like water. randall johnson/campbe ll are limited to hydrants there are none in the factory in a proper it itself and also in the beginning we had several small spot fires

the mock convention continues through saturday.### families across the commonwealth are fighting for tougher regulations at home daycares. last year two children died in a fire at a lynchburg home daycare. the operator of that daycare plead guilty to charges but did not spend time in jail. the general assembly is considering several bills to make home daycares safer including fingerprint background checks for licensed daycares and making it a felony if a home daycare provider operates illegally and it leads to the death or serious injury of a child.### hundreds of elementary school teachers have gathered in an engineering convention-- focusing on adding more stem-education techniques to the classroom. wsls ten's erin brookshier stopped by the event and has more on what teachers hope to learn.### teachers from our area.... and across the commonwealth are out of school today.. spending their second and final day at the hotel roanoke for the virginia children's

nearly eight- hundred teachers are getting hands- on lessons... led by classroom teachers. it's all in an effort to experience and expand on stem-based education... and adding science, technology, engineering and math to lessons that elementary school students can get interested in. tarri gauk is a kindergarten teacher at west salem elementary school.. and has been teaching for eighteen years. she says a lot has changed in the way students learn over the past two decades. sot back in the day we did this kind of stuff and it was just play, with tinker toys and legos and things. as time has gone on, children are so keyed into ipads and technology that they've lost that playing and natural play. continue vo this is the twentieth year for the convention-- which provides more than ninety sessions that teachers can attend... as well as hands- on learning stations. on cam it's all in an effort to show these educators fun and exciting

parents beware ... nuna baby essentials is recalling nearly six thousand high chairs due to a fall hazard. the recall involves eight models of the nuna "zaaz" high chair. the arm bar of the chair can bend or detach ... allowing a child to fall out. the company has received 50 reports of these incidents ... including six where a child has fallen from the chair. there have been four injuries so far. customers can contact nuna essentials to receive a new arm bar for free.### ford is expanding its number of s- u-v's. the company says it will launch four new s-u-v's in the next four years. ford says millenials ... boomers and global demand continue to spark s-u-v growth. the automaker is not saying when

added but says it's part of ford's global plan. ford says there is no plan to eliminate any models. ### now for a look at stories making headlines in the entertainment world... the force is not with producers of the new star wars film. the group faces criminal charges due to harrison ford's injury on set. the actor broke his leg after being struck by a hydraulic door. british health authorities say it's charging foodles production ... a subsidiary of disney with four breaches of workplace health and safety laws. the first court hearing is scheduled for may. ### actor george clooney is getting political. clooney met with german chancellor angela merkel in berlin today. the duo are discussing the situation in syria, which has caused a surge in refugees coming to europe. clooney told reporters that the movie industry is sometimes slow when reacting to news events and plans to talk to merkel about lending star power to help with the refugee
