afternoon, with freezing rain likely this evening. the potential is there for now at 11 ... the cleanup is underway ... as snow removal crews put their shovels to the test. any kind of weather events, we always get everyone on call the latest in the cleanup effort across southwest virginia. plus ... from roanoke ...to the new river valley ... and southside ... we're bringing you team coverage as the snowfall ... turns into ice. good evening, and thanks for joining us for wsls 10 at eleven. i'm john carlin. and i'm lindsey ward. it's been more than 24-hours ... since this storm's first snowfall here in southwest virginia. now ... the powdery flakes ... have turned into freezing rain

local plow crews ... first responders ... residents ... and even students across the region. today i woke up saw all the snow awesome we didn't have classes but really did nothing pretty much had to eat the food in the house couldn't go out for now ... we want to turn things over to storm team ten chief meteorologist jeff haniewich ... jeff ... the combination of the snow and ice ... is a little concerning ... winter storm warnings remain in effect for the entire viewing area through noon on tuesday. most of the snow has departed and now our attention turns to ice freezing rain and plain old rain. there will be a lull in the activity early this afternoon, with the moisture filling back in later this afternoon, with freezing rain likely this evening. the potential is there for

looking at a trace-0.50" of ice accretion. the highest amounts 0.25- 0.50" will likely be along and just east of the parkway from late this afternoon through just after midnight. power outages will need to be monitored for sure. the ice should changeover to plain rain late tonight before ending around lunch-time on tuesday. the flooding potential will be elevated quite a bit late tonight into tuesday morning as there will some pockets of heavy rain. the rain really has no place to go because of the drainage systems being blocked by snow, especially in urban areas. over an inch of rain is possible. temperatures will go up tonight, reaching the mid-to-upper 30s by daybreak tuesday. and highs on tuesday will top out in the mid- to-upper 40s in the afternoon. we could actually see a little late-day sun on tuesday.

impact us tuesday night into early wednesday, bringing about another wintry mix of light rain and/or snow showers. we could see a light accumulation in spots ... ice is a major concern this evening. in southside... freezing rain started just before 3 this afternoon ... and is expected to continue into the overnight hours. our team coverage takes us to danville ... where we're joined by wsls ten's colter anstaett. colter ... the area is expected to see a mixture of freezing rain and rain ... causing the potential for power outages. right. i am standing under some power lines right now on piney forest road and they are completely coated in a solid sheet of ice. of course, this is what the utilities department has been dreading, as

lead to power lines snapping under the weight of the ice or tree limbs snapping because of the ice and then falling on power lines and consequently puling the power lines down. so far though, i have not heard of any outages being reported here in danville, but if your power does go out the utilities director says to call their emergency number right away. jason grey/utilities director "we take the greatest number of outages and try to work those first. the more people we can get restored first is where we target." also, if you notice any power lines sagging or any tree limbs that may have fallen on some power lines, go ahead and call the emergency number as well. live in danville, colter anstaett, wsls 10. what are some precautionary measures homeowners can take ... to help keep power from

roanoke county saw it's fair share of snow ... and now ... freezing rain is steadily falling across the valley. crews have been treating roads all day ... but some still remain covered in snow ... wsls ten's brie jackson was out traveling around the tanglewood-mall area of the county ... she joins us now live ... brie

virginia state police have responded to more than 500 traffic crashes and nearly 400 disabled vechiles. slick roads aren't the only problem. weather is driving in business. service center today. staff there say they've towed several cars. some were stuck in the snow others had mechanical issues. they say this cold weather can cause car troubles. kyle dudley / roanoke auto service center: 6:11:29 "it's been stranger we've had two alternators go out today. i don't know if it is because of the cold. i know it is hard on

here's a live picture using our virginia tech sky cam. the university closed due to weather today ... so far ... no word yet if it will open back up tomorrow. meanwhile ... the blacksburg transit is returning to full service tomorrow morning ... with the exception of the go anywhere route in christiansburg. our team coverage continues with wsls ten's duke carter ... who's live in christiansburg tonight ... duke ... you talked with a delivery business tonight ... how is the business fairing with the current road conditions? as of now the roads are ok nothing major here and people are heeding state police caution to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. but for some the roads were good enough for delivery drivers. we spoke with drivers at greens grill sushi and bar and they say since other businesses have been

delivering to people in the area. they say compared to any other monday's this one has been busy almost10 orders every hour. "today since we are snowed in a lot of people are stuck in the houses, they want food delivered to them but no one is brave enough to do it except for me," now that driver says he is prepared he has shovels and gloves to make sure he handle getting out of the snow just in case he's stuck. we're seeing a few delays across the region .. in your w-s-l-s ten timesaver traffic report... we're following a tractor trailer accident on i-81 in
