tonight: scattered rain showers with lows in the upper 30s tuesday: rain showers with highs in the middle 40s wednesday: rain showers with highs in the lower 50s roanoke mayor david bowers says he will not run in the ninth district congressional race. bowers announced his decision today in a news release. he says "this is my home and the honesty, my primary interest." bowers first announced in january that he was considering a run for the seat -- which congressman morgan griffith currently holds. david bowers, mayor of roanoke: "it takes a lot to put together a campaign. it takes staff and strategists and time and money and all those things. i always had the fire in the belly but, some of those other things didn't fall into place." while bowers is not running for

reopen his law office and continue to be involved in the city of roanoke as well as spending time with family. the man charged with first degree murder in the death of 13-year old nicole lovell hires his own attorney. according to the montgomery county juvenile and domestic relations court, 18-year old david eisenhauer is now represented by anthony anderson of anderson and friedman in roanoke. attorney christopher tuck was previously appointed to represent him. lovell was killed after going several days. 19-year old natalie keepers also faces charges related to lovell's death. both suspects are scheduled for preliminary hearings on march 28th. eisenhauer and keepers are being held without bond.### the trial is underway for one of the men charged in connection to a shooting that killed two and hurt four others in roanoke. against demetrius wade .. including charges stem from a shooting at the former last january. ronald ramey and leonard

october. the trial is expected to last all week. ### jurors are expected to hear closing arguments today in the murder trial of waynesboro reserve police captain kevin quick before starting deliberations. the defense rested friday after calling five witnesses to the stand in federal court in roanoke. before that, prosecutors questioned the alleged ringleader of the 99 goon syndikate gang. six people are on trial. four are charged in quick's death. the other two are accused of being part of a racketeering conspiracy. the prosecution has called more than two dozen witnesses and entered 400 pieces of evidence in the case. quick was reported missing in february 2014. his body was found a week later in goochland county.### after administrative changes over the past few weeks and a threat at northside high school ... many parents and students have questions for school leaders. w-s-l-s 10's erin brookshier has more on a community forum tonight where parents and students can voice their

the forum tonight will offer a chance to talk to school board members and the new school administration about what has happened at northside high school lately. last thursday... many students vo threat. the school was first notified about reports of the threat on wednesday afternoon... but didn't address the reports until morning. there was an increased police presence on campus... as investigators worked to figure out that the threat was actually a hoax. tom mccracken.. the school board member who called the forum, expects many questions about the incident-- and the change in administration as well. he originally called the forum after the school's principal, frank dent, suddenly announced he would be stepping down... and an assistant principal, amy puckett asked to be reassigned. we asked about what led to the changes.. and did not get specific details, only that there have been a lot of rumors. sot there's a lot of gossip going out there, in both of these issues that northside has had to face over the past

healthy to hear. we might not always agree, as a school board member, i might not always agree with a parent that's really frustrated. but they have a right to be frustrated and they have the right to have a productive place, a forum to vent. continue vo tonight, parents and students will be introduced to doctor dan lyons. he's the former superintendent for live and will be filling in as the interim principal for the remainder of the year. the forum starts at seven p-m.. at northside high school. many school systems are having to make up days after winter weather over the last month. students have to be in class for at least 180 teaching days or 990 teaching hours. many school systems rely on instructional hours. in henry county, the school system is trying to preserve spring break by adding two and half days to the calendar. bedford county and roanoke county added two school days. in rockbridge county, there were no snow days built in last year... so they made changes for this year... building in five

the middle 40s.few morning showers west making national headlines today ... the man who police believe is connected to a string of shootings over the weekend in kalamazoo, michigan is expected to make his first court appearance this afternoon. the county's prosecutor says he believes uber driver jason dalton is the right man and is ready to file charges. jeffrey getting / kalamazoo county prosecutor "i anticipate out of that review will come 6 counts of murder, 2 counts of assault with intent to commit murder and 8 counts of what we call felony firearm, using a firearm in the commission of a felony. authorities say dalton went on a shooting rampage saturday night killing six and hurting two others. those two remain in the hospital today with serious injuries.### apple's c-e-o tim cook is thanking his staff for their support during the f-b-i's probe relating to

patients for the zika virus is now open. dallas county is now the first in the nation running its own tests for the virus. once a patient is tested, they receive their results within 24 hours. samples tested in other parts of the country are sent to the centers for disease control with results taking between two and three weeks .### a class-action lawsuit is filed against a-m-c theatres. it claims the entertainment chain makes it hard for blind people to enjoy the movies. according to the lawsuit, a-m-c theatres offers audio-description devices to visually impaired customers but the they rarely provide appropriate, functinoing devices. customers listed in the lawsuit say the listening devices often have the wrong movie. a-m-c theatres has not responded to the claims.### we're now just a few minutes from daytime blue ridge.. for more on what's coming up today-- lets check in with natalie and lindee.#
