bye-bye.good afternoon... thanks for joining us i'm jenna zibton i'm kristina montuori. today: rain showers with afternoon temperatures in the upper 30s and lower 40s tonight: rain showers with temperatres in the upper 30s wednesday: heavy rain with a few storms .flooding possible.highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s thursday: windy with highs in the middle 40s.power outages possible due to roanoke fire- e- m-s says it happened just after midnight this morning. crews responded to a call in the 16- hundred block of wayne reet. when crews got there... they found heavy smoke... and one person dead inside. they estimate damages at $27- thsand dollars. the victim's name has not been released. the cause of the fire remains

for updates on this story when we are not on the air... you can visit our website at wsls dot-com. # a wythe county school is closed tod... after a water line break. the superintendent says they closed "sheffey elementary school" this morning. he says there were minor leaks... but were still able to cut water on and off as needed... including meals... and letting students use the bathroom. the superintendent says they were not able to turn the water on and off today because of a part needed... so they decided to cancel class. they expect it to be fixed today... and classes will resume tomorrow. there is an alert system for parents... but they did not send anything out because they were able to have water as needed. # roanoke county schools administrators are updating crisis policies. this comes after last week's shooting threat at northside high wasn't community meeting. schools spokesperson chuck lionberger says the "perception of a threat" is a new thing they're having to deal with. they are in the process right

some of these new types of issues... like the rumor of a shooting threat that gets spread around social media. 8:50:35 chuck lionberger, roanoke county schools spokesperson parnts told us that they felt like they should have been notified in advance. we agree and we apologized and so if, hopefully not, if there is a next time we are changing some of our processes to make sure that parents are notified earlier. 50 he wouldn't say much about changes to the school crisis plans -- because of safety concerns... and making that information public. but parents will be notified of threats once information is confirmed. # new this afternoon ... president barack obama delivers his statement on the closing of guantanamo bay prison. the plan focuses on the transfer of between 30 to 60 detainees to u-s soil. president obama has been working on this since 2009. the plan also suggests several maximum security locations for the prisoners... including south carolina... kansas... and colorado.

detainees would be sent to other countries. transfers like these have been banned by congress since 20-11. # botetourt county has moved the first of two historic slave quarters... off the hill at the greenfield preston plantation. ti's been there for more than two hundred years. w-s-l-s 10's rob manch is live in botetourt county this afternoon. the weather isn't the greatest today... how did the move go? # this building here traveled about a quarter of a mile this morning. it went pretty well considering it was raining the whole time. a small crowd was presentto watch the move. the vehicle carrying the parway with the permission of vdot. it then turned up a gravel road leading to the historic preservation area that will soon be the building's new home.

hiccup where a wheel was stuck in the mud for a bit. county spokesman cody sexton ss once the buildings are in place, work can begin on what will become their permanent resting place this spring. cody sexton, botetourt spokesman: 22:28:25 "we will be temporarily placing them, and then because we're going to use historical materials for the foundation, we can't do that until warmer weather." the historic slave kitchen is the other building left to be moved. sexton says the county plans for that to happen thursday morning. now as we've reported, plenty of people here in the county did not want to see this building uprooted. we will likely be hearing from some of them in just a couple hours at the board of supervisors meeting. in botetourt county, rob manch, wsls 10. this year more than one and a half million high school students will experience physical or verbal abuse... by the person they're dating. as wsls 10's erin brookshier

are working to stop... including congress, which has designated february as teen dating violence prevention and awareness month. # women between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four are three times more likely the be abused by an intimate partner than the rest of the population. and often with teens.. thy confuse the jealousy as love. vo sarah higginbotham.. the coordinator for the "violence can end program" says often times, an abusive partner will put down on their significant other's parents and friends... creating more dependency on themselves. vocg some of the major signs to look out for if you believe someone that you know is in an abusive relationship... a change in behavior.. especially moodiness or sadness. also, watch for distance or isolation with more time spent and friends. finally.. lying can be another red flag to watch out for.. especially when it comes to topics about their significant other. sot sarah higginbotham,

the parents of a 14-year old girl.. who was nearly killed during saturday's kalamazoo shooting.. are breaking their silence. abigail had such severe gun shot wounds ... doctors thought she was dead. that's until the teen squeezed her moms hand -- giving doctors... and her family hope. breathtaking... it was a miracle on its own.. you don't expect it and then all of the sudden it's there." abigail went thru surgery... and remains on a ventilator in critical condition. meanwhile, suspect jason dalton is being charged with six counts of murder... and was denied bail. so far, police have not determined a motive for the shooting spree. # turning to politics... presidential hopeful donald trump is interupted multiple times by protesters during his campaign rally. one man was even forciblyremove d from monday night's rally ... striking attention from trump. while the protester is being
