that severe weather caused what many people are saying is the worst damage they've ever seen. reports are in of nearly 45 homes damaged-- at least one is a late last night.. police confirmed at least one person, a man who was reported missing-- has been pronounced dead. this now brings total deaths in virginia to 4 ... 3 in waverly; 1 in appomattox county it's a storm that's affected nearly everybody in this town. everybody in this town. susan shirey 12:25:55 every body knows somebody that's affected by it. we are a close community our hearts go out to anyone that has lost their homes or

morning in tappahannock... that's in essex county... after a storm moves through the northeastern part of the state. some injuries are said to be critical. several people were trapped with rescues taking place into the night. police believe they have now accounted for all of those who were missing. many homes and a church were destroyed by the storm along a five to six mile long damage path. neil harvey, essex county residentit just demolished everything through this, couple houses that are gone completely, the church is gone, and a lot of people hurting now, there are like 3 or 4 people" witnesses say they saw three separate tornadoes touchdown... tossing homes into the street.### if you want to help.... gleaning for the world is getting relief to tornado victims in shelters. the american red cross set up a shelter for people who couldn't stay at home. you can donate online. god's pit crew out of danville will be sending people to look at

office, the virginia state police, the federal bureau of investigation, and all the other agencies that worked together. it was a tremendous effort." one of the defendants' lawyers said he wasn't surprised because the evidence was powerful. # amanda taylor will spend the rest of her life in prison in connection with the stabbing death of her late husband's father. the montgomery county commonwealth's attorney says the 24-year-old was sentenced in the first degree murder of charles taylor on wednesday. she was found guilty back in november. before sentencing the judge told taylor she was "evil personified" after showing "little or no remorse" for her actions.### in what's news today... the roanoke county school board meets tonight to discuss the calendar for the next school year. school is scheduled to start on august 24th... with the last day of school on june 7th. students will get two weeks off for christmas. there are three banked days... built in as make-up days. # vinton town council meets tonight to talk about the chief of police position. the board

interview candidates. former chief ben cook retired in october. # contractors hired by botetourt county are scheduled to move the second of two historical structures today at the greenfield plantation. earlier this week, the group friends of the greenfield preston plantation presented the board of supervisors a check for $40,000 to cancel the move. the county has leased the land to the economic development authority in an effort to bring more business to the county. the u-s department of labor is set to release their weekly jobless claims later this morning. last week's report saw the number of weekly applications for unemployment assistance fall seven-thousand, to a seasonally adjusted 273- thousand. a study released by consulting firm j.d. power finds lexus, porsche and buick to be the most dependable vehicle brands. it rated brands by the number of problems those owners had experienced in the last 12 months. lexus was rated most dependable, followed by porsche, buick, toyota and g-m-c.

victims -- all males -- a two-year-old.. a 26-year-old and 50-year-old... were thrown storm. local police shut the town down... and are enforcing a curfew. people are trying to grasp devastation they've never seen before. brian reid, witness:"i saw the clouds getting dark in the back, the next thing i know, the wind just started blowing ...it was as fierce as i've ever seen."butted sharon faison, witness:"it's horrible cars were completely crumbled on the highway, it picked up cars and through them in a ditch so it really did some damage." emergency responders are continuing to comb through the debris, searching for those in need. they have established a command center at a local shopping center. we are expecting a news conference from state police at seven this morning... with updates on damage across virginia # severe thunderstorms moved up the east coast wednesday leaving a path of destruction all the way from the carolinas to pennsylvania. the storms left thousands of people without power, and brought strong winds and hail to our nations capitol. major flight delays were reported across the d-c metro

for a domestic dispute, they learned that justin newcomb forced his way into the home, assaulted someone. police believe that he also took his four year old son jesse. newcomb is believe to be travelling in a white four door volkswagen with virginia plates.### state police blood hound teams start a new "wilderness survival program" to reach out to adults and kids. state trooper arthur price junior and 2- year-old ellie may are one of seven handler and blood hound teams across the commonwealth. the first dog tracking dog was brought on board in 2006 and since then.. a dog has been added in each division in the commonwealth. just last week -- price and ellie may tracked down a missing woman in henry county. they're now talking to kids and adults ahead of the increase in hiking this spring and hunting in the fall. arthur price jr/state police "we try to educate them if they get separated from their families to stay where they are and we will come and find them. instead of continuing to

going to washington.... and richmond. talking to lawmakers about the rising costs of college. lawmakers are listening. virginia lawmakers passed new laws... after a series of key findings in the "joint legislative audit and review commission" report. one law limits the percentage of student fees that can be used for athletics programs. 21:4:30 colby bender, radford university senior / sga president it's necessary to raise tuition sometimes but it's gotten so out of hand and financial aid in virginia is just so inconsistently funded students don't really have the opportunity especially if you're from a very low income family to go to college 46 d-va there are common sense things we can do. allowing students to refinance their debt at a lower interest rate, making it easier to start at a community college and then go on to a four-year institution and have those credits fully transfer. we'll take an even closer look at how students and lawmakers are working to lower the cost of college... coming up tonight report at six. # now to kristina, with a look at our

six people are found guilty on all counts... in the murder trial of waynesboro police reserve captain kevin quick. four people were found guilty on charges related to the murder of quick... while the other two were found guilty of being gang ring leaders in a racketeering conspiracy. the jury read the verdict after nearly ten hours of deliberating. the prosecution says after spending thousands of hours on this case... they're pleased over the verdict. rusty mcguire/special united states attorney - "it was over 10,000 hours work hours of all the investigators, the louisa county sheriff's office, the virginia state police, the federal bureau of investigation, and all the other agencies that worked together. it was a tremendous effort." one of the defendants' lawyers said he wasn't surprised because the evidence was powerful. # amanda taylor will spend the rest of her life in prison in connection with the stabbing death of her late husband's father. the montgomery county
