firearm within town limits. metz allegedly shot the victim then drove away. police found him at his home a block away from where the shooting happened. metz is being held in new river valley jail without bond. ### new at noon ... galax police are searching for a man who helped a 14 year old girl go missing. a warrant has been issued for the arrest of 21 year old kevin amaya. he faces charges for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. police think he may be in northern virginia. alva coello went missing wednesday night. she was found on thursday. if you have any information, you're asked to call police.### a danville man is in jail this afternoon after cutting someone's neck with a knife. police were called to the 1 thousand block of halifax road around 11 last night because of had been cut. when officers arrived, they found the victim sitting on the the neck. he's now in the hospital. the suspect, 43- year-old kenneth lawrence huggins, was arrested for malicious wounding.

this as the danville regional medical center hosts its fourth neighborhood walk. the weekly walks started after two people... including a doctor were shot. the hospital says by coming together, they can achieve great things, like a crime free community. ### at least three people are dead and 14 others hurt following a workplace shooting in kansas. the alleged gunman ... cedric larry ford went on a shooting rampage at the excel industries plant where he worked. police say ford was served with a protective order filed by his girlfriend hours before the shooting. workers inside the plant describe the scene as chaotic. no super - "everybody was running, people were screaming, people were crying, we just didn't know what to do." no super - "and more people running and all of a sudden pop pop pop i started running too." witnesses say ford was armed with an assault style weapon and a handgun. he was killed during a shootout with police.### a virginia legislative panel kills a bill that would have allowed the names of police

news media and public. the bill put open records advocates against law enforcement groups in a fierce debate about government transparency. it was introduced in response to a recent court ruling directing the state to turn over the names and employment dates of thousands of law enforcement officers to a newspaper. supporters of the bill said releasing the information could put the officers in danger. # the state's national guard continues helping areas severely affected by the recent tornado outbreak. more than 60 soldiers are helping with the clean up efforts in appomattox ... essex and patrick counties. troops are helping distribute water in appomattox as well as clearing fallen trees. the guard also took to the skies by transporting emergency mangers and capturing images for damage estimates.### the appomattox community is continuing to cleanup after a violent ef-3 tornado. families in evergreen are still searching through the rubble of their homes - looking to salvage anything they can. many houses were leveled. but scattered throughout the

like a sign that reads pray still standing on the second story of one home. one mother is thanking her painter for helpign save her son's life. daniel poole stayed home from school sick on wednesday. as the storm approached, his dog ran downstairs where chris wright was doing some painting. wright saw the storm was getting bad and told daniel to get in the closet. chris wright: "right before we slammed the door, everything dark and then it got light again and that's when the house lifted up on that end. and you could just feel the woosh." both say they have never seen anything like this before.### dozens of volunteers are heading to appomattox to help with the recovery. today "god's pit crew" loaded trucks with relief supplies to bring to the area. the group is sending blessing buckets with cleaning supplies and tolietries. they will also help with tree removal and other clean-up efforts. students from liberty university

middle 40s by the afternoon. republican presidential candidates face off in the lonestar state ahead of super tuesday. g-o-p frontrunner donald trump was attacked by his fellow party candidates at trump is winning all polls in super tuesday states except for one -- texas. taking the lead there is ted cruz. marco rubio says he will expose the real trump ahead of tuesday's primaries. marco rubio / r presidential candidate - "we are not gonna turn over the conservative movement to a con artist who is telling people on thing but has spent 40 years sticking it to working americans and now claims to be their champion." both rubio and trump will visit southwest virginia ahead of the state's march first primary. rubio will speak at roanoke college sunday. trump holds a rally at radford university monday. democratic candidate hillary clinton is opening a campaign office

police in the roanoke valley and surrounding areas will be out in full force today-- cracking down on people who run red lights. it's all part of a big initiative that aims to make our streets safer. w-s-l-s 10's erin brookshier joins us with more on why police say crashes like this are so dangerous.### if you think about what happens when you run a red light.. one drive is totally unaware the other will be speeding through the light. which ends up in a t-bone type crash... vo the side of the vehicles don't have as much of a cushion as the font does with the engine.. or the rear does with the trunk-- so if you are t- boned, the side of the car can cave in and led to an even more dangerous situation. each year.. there are hundreds of deaths and more than one- hundred thousand injuries as a result of someone running a red light. sot in this particular crash, the reason why red light running is so dangerous, is because what the people like to do, they beat the light. so that has speed involved. you see the light change from green

head to bissett park in radford for the new river polar plunge. those brave enough to take the leap will head into the chilly waters of the new river. events kicks off at 10:30 saturday with the plunge happening at 12:30. it's $50 to take the plunge with proceeds benefitting special olympics. head to smith mountain lake for the winterfest 10 miler and snowball 5k. the 10 miler starts at 10 a.m. saturday with the 5k beginning at 10:15 a.m. both events begin at bernard's landing. if you're a fan of girl scout school in lynchburg from cookie fest. inflatables, karaoke, face painting and of course, cookies. tickets are $5. if you're already thinking about summer, head to the berglund center this weekend for the roanoke boat show. dealers will be there showing the latest technology with more than 250 boats on display. $7.50

seven brands of of packaged raw macadamia nuts are being recalled due to a potential salmonella contamination. the recall includes target's exclusive brand market pantry as well as brands western family ... shufrine ... hy-vee ... pear's gourmet

the products were sold between month. the contamination was found during a routine product sampling by the food and drug administration. no illnesses have been reported. you can return the products for a full refund or replacement. ### parents beware ... evenflo is recalling more than 56 thousand child safety seats. children can loosen the internal harness ... increasing the risk of injury during a crash. the recall covers transitions three in one combination booster seats made from december 2014 through january of this year. evenflo says the problem only affects seats when used as forward facing harnessed boosters. no injuries have been reported. customers will receive a kit with a new seat pad and front adjuster assembly. if you're looking to save a little money, then a new list has the cheapest cars to insure. insure dot com has released it's annual rankings. topping the list is the honda odyssey l-x. the insurance costs an average of about 11 hundred dollars a year.
