'help save the next girl'... is hosting a fundraising event in roanoke. new details in friday's roanoke county officer involved shooting. police say .. 18- year-old kionte deshaun spencer died after being shot twice by roanoke county police. police say ... he was found carrying what they believed to be a handgun near the cave spring shopping area... but it was a b-b pistol air gun. after ignoring repeated demands to drop his weapon, two officers deployed their tasers. the tasers were ineffective. that's when they shot spencer twice, hitting him in the hip and collarbone. wsls10's christina craig was able to talk to spencer's brother and joins us live. christina, i understand the brothers talked regularly? yes, i spoke with spencer's

in fact, he was waiting right outside of the roanoke county public safety building at the same time as the news conference. spencer was hoping to find out more about his brother's death. while the brothers didn't live together, spencer says ... they talked about 4 times a week. the last time he spoke with his brother was just hours before the shooting. carl spencer, subject's brother: "that's what makes it so crazy. and, that's another reason why i came here, because this is not sitting right with me. i'll never be able to get over him until i find out what happened." spencer says his brother lived in an independent living program and prior to that was housed in a local department of social services. we are still learning more information about this roanoke county officer involved shooting. an internal investigation is underway to make sure protocol was followed. we also reached out to the school and living program that spencer attended. we'll have more information tonight at 6. reporting live in roanoke county, christina craig, wsls10. a woodbridge man admits to the

today... army staff sergeant ronald hamilton appeared in court for the saturday shootings. court records show he admitted to shooting his wife and three police officers. one of those officers died. hamilton is now charged with both murder and capital murder. he's being held without bond. a top white house hopeful touched down in south- west virginia today. donald trump... the g-o-p's top polling candidate... spoke at radford university. the candidate didn't pull his punches when talking about his political rivals. he also talked about his platform... and the changes he'd make... if elected president. wsls 10's ananda rochita is live in radford tonight. ananda what were some of topics that got the most attention from the crowd? there was a lot of cheering inside the dedmon center this afternoon and it was mostly for jobs and building a border wall with mexico. the energy from the crowd isn't out of the ordinary for

we knew that while many here in the radford community were excited to see donald trump, he would not be greeted with open arms by everybody on campus. today, the tension boiled over minutes into his speech. it started when one protester inside begin raising his voice. trump then stopped his speech to have that student kicked out. then, dozens more followed suit and were escorted out as well. protesters were instructed not to be disruptive inside, but many feel they have a right to have their voices heard no matter what. ru student michael marmol was the first to be thrown out after yelling out that trump hired illegal immigrants. trump claims there were 11 thousand people trying to attend today. that number has not been officially verified. coming up at six, we'll hear about specific concerns protesters had, and why many chose to walk out voluntarily. we know dozens were kicked out

what did they say when they came outside? many of them came outside chanting black lives matter. others were holding up peace signs or shouting expletives. live in radford bethany teague wsls 10. the controversy surrounding trump's visit doesn't just involve the students. a photographer covering the event says he was knocked to the ground by a secret service agent. time magazine photographer chris morris says ... he stepped 18 inches outside the media pen when a secret service agent put his hands around his neck. morris was escorted out of the rally and detained before

a representative with trump's campaign says .. they're aware of the incident but don't have all the details. the secret service says .. it's investigating the circumstances of this incident. donald trump isn't the only one reaching out to new voters ahead of super tuesday. senator ted cruz is campaigning in the lone star state. senator marco rubio is also at home today... he's in florida... a make it or break state for his campaign. hillary clinton followed in the steps of the g-o-p front runner... touring parts of the commonwealth today... while her democratic rival... senator bernie sanders... campaigned in minnesota... a state he hopes to win. tomorrow is super tuesday... a chance for virginia voters to make their choice on who will represent each political party in the race for president. voters in roanoke will see a change this year... as this is the first election that a new voter precinct realignment is in effect. at its highest level... the city of roanoke was made up of 32 precincts. after the changes... there

scientists are working on a new way to identify alzheimer's disease. they're using brain scans to identify whether the build up of two types of protein cause the memory loss associated with the deadly disease. however... the presence of one of the proteins can only be confirmed through an autopsy... so volunteers aren't enrolling to save their lives... but to help millions of others. dr. stephen salloway / director, butler hospital's memory and aging program butt to:1:37 - 1:41 "what i'm so moved about is the volunteerism." ashley medina, daughter "i know that she, herself would want to help others." through the autopsy... researchers can prove the protein is in the alzheimer's brain and not the normal brain... which could lead to new treatments. currently... there is some hope of delaying the disease for people at risk of developing alzheimer's. mayo clinic scientists scanned the brains of adults who carry the gene linked to the disease. they found those with the gene appeared to reduce their risk

wsls ten's jenna zibton explains what the money is used for in tonight's education matters. the "roanoke county schools education foundation" gives out thousands of dollars every year to students and teachers. since 1991... they've given out nearly $2 million dollars in grants and scholarships. vo the non-profit is gearing up for it's third annual "backpack run".. 5-k race. the group gave out about $60- thousand dollars in scholarships for seniors... and about $20- thousand in classroom grants last year.... to help teachers pay for things like fun reading books in the classroom. they're trying to give out even more money. sot chuck lionberger, roanoke county schools spokesperson "we want to try and encourage our students to be successful and success is not just in the classroom. success is also in life and being healthy. we wanted to provide an event where we could encourage healthy activity among community." cont vo the backpack run is named because of an extra challenge you can take.

harrington's mother gil describes the news jesse matthew junior is expected to enter a plea deal in the hannah cases. matthew is facing adbuction and murder charges in the cases which were scheduled to go to trial later this year. i spoke with mrs. harrington this afternoon and she tells me they are very relieved. she says she's glad the lawyers were able to successfully come to what she describes as the most logical and compassionate resolution. she tells me it's logical because of the expense of going through two more trials when matthew a sexual assualt case in fairfax. gil harrington says it's compassionate for them because it's been 6 1/2 years since morgan disappeared and it's been daunting for them. matthew's hearing will take place wednesday at 1:30. a henry county man is lucky to
