the police chief tells me that the d.o.t. has been brought in to really plow the roadways hoping to get the bus off beach mountain and back down into the banner elk area. right now the bus can't go any further up here because of the road conditions. very slick this morning. you can see how heavy the snow came down here in the north carolina high country. i would say here at the higher elevations, we all ready had three, four, possibly five inches of snow from this system that just keeps producing snow showers over the north carolina high country. just a short time ago, i got a chance to talk with the police chief here. >> the roads are too treacherous. we had to turn around and pull them up here to flatter ground so they can try to finish out their day at the ski resort. >> the other big concern is the winds are expected to pick up country. i can tell you the temperature degrees. reporting from beach mountain, dave faherty, channel 9 eyewitness news.

season. they told us it's tough to wrap up the season with this loss but they showed a lot of pride for season they've had. and they told us they'd get over the loss by focusing on the future. cam newton opened up to the media about his post game performance. he says it happened. he doesn't have regrets. and he doesn't like to lose. he talked about the constant comparisons to other quarterbacks. >> i have a mentality, i have a standard that i set for myself, and i'm not going to bend or break, you know what i'm anybody. but at the end of the day, we had an unbelievable season. >> reporter: less than 30 minutes ago coach ron rivera wished newton responded differently but they appreciate having a player that doesn't like to lose. they do support him. as you heard at the top of the show, the players were chanting we love cam. we're going to talk more about

new at noon, firefighters rushed to this east charlotte house after neighbors smelled smoke coming from it. chris put out the fire on hartness avenue. inside. the time. one student is in the hospital after two buses collided this morning in west charlotte. middle school. there was no visible damage to the buses and 40 students were on board at the time. cms leaders say the student was taken to the hospital as a precaution. voters are lining up to vote in the first presidential primary in the nation. voters have been casting ballots as early as midnight. jacqueline fell shows us how the candidates are making their lost minute pitches. >> reporter: more than 40% of voters in new hampshire are independent.

i mean she's my kid. >> investigators say david eisenhower had an inappropriate relationship with nicole on social media. her father told dr. phil her family tried to step in after finding out she was talking to older men online. they even took her phone away at one point. her father says he wishes he had done more. >> i'd like to be locked up in the same cell with him. i'm pretty sure i could get answers out of him. he took my little girl. >> investigators told abc news eisenhower admitted he saw nicole the night she disappeared ask gave her a hug before he went home. one of her friends said she referred to him as her boyfriend. the other suspect charged in this case is accused of helping eisenhower plan the murder. investigators still have not released a motive. new at noon, north carolina regulators are fining duke energy nearly $7 million for pollution from the 2014 coal ash spill into the dan river.

today. it says it covers violations. duke is reviewing the fine to determine whether to fight it. today president obama will budget request. the plan includes a 19 billion- dollar increase in cyber agencies. that is up more than 35% from last year. it includes $7.5 billion for the fight on isis. it also calls for a 10-dollar per barrel tax on oil to pay projects. rock hill leaders are putting a massive development project on hold for now. last night city council delayed the final reading for the knowledge park master plan. our partners at the harald tells us the city is considering changes to the project and financial agreement. the plan calls for a mix of shops, and housing construction should begin later this year. today a charlotte radio

crowders mountain state park. meteorologist keith monday is tracking snow in the mountains plus a deep freeze that's going to impact our neighborhoods for several days. >> we're behind yesterday's pace of a warm up. it's beginning. it's going to keep going. let's take a tour of live early warning doppler 9. all of this is not hitting the ground. it's just too dry for this to make it down to the ground. and if we do see anything, flurries. so we're seeing all this further away from the radar, up north into claremont, cheryls ford, catawba county, over to clouds. it picks up that snowfall. once you get into the over that. so you're seeing lighter snow amounts. but this is the place where it's snowing much more. they have higher humidity in the mountains. the snow's really coming down. look at the low humidity numbers, 35% in charlotte. that number will go down in the

our air will get dryer. you'll feel your hands drying out here. it's going to get worse as the dry air comes this week. that's going to limit us to flurries for the future cast through the afternoon. it's looks impressive on the forecast but it's not going to be anything at all. in the mountains, we should see an easing of snow into the evening. but it'll add up more in here. the lower elevations, an inch or less, on the west side, a couple inches adding up. i checked at beach mountain, they reported about six inches of snowfall. so we've probably all ready seen a couple inches on top of that from what we had this morning. not done yet. we're at 40 in charlotte. low 20s in the mountains. the numbers crash quickly. once the sun goes down, we'll stay around 40 all afternoon. freezing. down further tomorrow morning. 21 in charlotte.

here's a look at the he an anson county prison has more guards to day after a spike in violent attacks during the past week. in a 9 investigation, we learned inmates at lanes borrow correctional institution in polkton assaulted nine guards in one case a convicted rapist used a homemade knife. the officer had to be flown to the hospital. neighbors are worried about safety. >> they don't have enough security in the prison. >> we've been telling you for years about problems at the prison. in 2014 someone stabbed an administrator in the neck. that same year federal and state agents took control of the prison because they thought inmates smuggled cell phones to plan attacks. the state says the additional officers will stay at the prison until the threat subsides. leaders are also reviewing their policies to make sure employees are safe. we have linked our past
