i just got some data in over night that does try to bring a few showers across the area later this afternoon i'll pinpoint which neighborhoods have the best chance for seeing that rain that's coming up ahead. we start with sad breaking news, we learned a unc student died in a car crash in virginia. 19-year-old austin rainy in the green shirt smiling, learned he died late thursday night on route 13 in northern virginia. schoolfficials say he was heading to washington d.c. with friends when the vehicle that he was in was hit by a tractor trailer. the impact killed him but the four others are okay this morning. rainy was the men's basketball team student manager. in just a few hours polls will open for south carolina voters, they open at 7:00 and deciding today who they think should be the republican presidential nominee. the latest wall street journal poll shows it is a close primary for candidates donald

results tonight on eyewitness news at 10 and 11. right now hillary clinton and bernie sanders are vying for votes out west ahead of today's caucuses in nevada. polls show they are virtually tied there. a cnn poll say it is narrowing going into the primary on the democrat side of the presidential campaign, hillary clinton is up 48%, bernie sanders polling at 42%. the donald trump primary in south carolina is february 2nd. the u.s. supreme court denied a stay in north carolina's redistricting case, the supreme court decision means that the new maps passed by the state legislature today will be used in the primary election. also upholds the state legislature's decision to move the primary from march 15 to june 7th. channel 9 was in raleigh for the last minute changes which

police say james shot and killed tammi monday. he was in court before he knew he was facing a charge, already in jail on assault with a deadly weapon charge. today's memorial service is at 2:00 at warlick funeral home chapel in lincolnton. we're learning more about a security brief a california hospital admits to paying hackers $17,000 in ransom to stop from accessing computer records. it actually affected a north carolina hospital a few months ago. luckily the virus at the hospital was caught before it caused any problems. mission hospital was infected at the end of last year but officials there say that the hospital took steps to handle that cyber attack that protected patients and employee information. let's take a live look
