for the morning drive. rain later monday. at least for tomorrow morning the showers kept across the mountains. i want to draw your attention to what will be going on across greensboro and triad. northeast winds taking over, clouds thickening. that's the carolina wedge, cooler air moving through that gets stuck over charlotte. when you have the cooler air masses battling each other with warmer air to the south, that's the recipe for strong thunderstorms. thanks, john. we'll be monitoring conditions overnight and whether it will impact your morning drive tomorrow. you can get traffic and weather every 10 minutes starting at 4:30 on eyewitness news daybreak. developing tonight, channel 9 was the only news outlet to get a copy of an e-mail of the governor to a charlotte council

>> we reported this as breaking news at 6:00. since then we've been digging into both sides ahead of that crucial vote tomorrow. here and speak for or against that ordinance even more are expected to rally outside of the government center. there have been a lot of strong opinions and tonight the voices also include governor mccrory. it's hours before the vote to decide on a controversial issue in city code. a ban on discrimination against the lgbt community in taxis, businesses and public rest rooms. >> it's overwhelmingly to me a civil rights issue of my generation. >> reporter: charlotte business owner julie will speak in support of the ordinance monday. support she demonstrates daily. >> in i was going to have the

have the most notorious potty. we have the opportunity to use our own little voice to say let's do things create a safe space for everyone. >> reporter: on sunday, even the governor lends his voice in this e-mail exchange. in it the governor called the ordinance misguided and says it affects the entire state. he goes on to say if passed, state lawmakers could act immediately, an action he would support. monday nearly 150 speakers are signed up to have their say before city council. julie is number 17. >> i actually get to speak from experience, and the fact that things that are being promoted of the what ifs haven't happening. >> reporter: julie said she decided to have an all gender bathroom after city council voted down that ordinance last year. in the last hour i have heard

>> dalton passed a background check to work for uber and had no criminal history. uber's security office released a statement saying in part -- crews are investigating after a bathroom fire at this northwest charlotte restaurant. charlotte fire says it started asian bistro. firefighters turned away customers as they investigated. injuries. new at 11, a massive tree toppleed onto this east charlotte home while six people were inside. a neighbor told channel 9, 2 women and four children were in it happened. hurt. yesterday south carolina primary gave donald trump his second victory thus far in his quest to be the republican presidential nominee.

ted cruz for second place. historically, no one has won both new hampshire and south carolina and failed to get the republican nomination. trump seems to be defying the laws of political gravity. >> the opposing candidates' attacks on him, which is normally an astute attack to go negative, seems to back fire on them and jeb bush is one of the casualties of that. >> jeb bush ended his campaign last night. his endorsement could help the remaining candidates as the field narrows. last night hillary clinton won in nevada and that puts her in a good position moving into south carolina and beyond. >> she is able to maintain that degree of support among african- american voters, then she'll likely do well in south carolina. bernie sanders was in

and clinton is expected to be in south carolina tuesday. we've learned a man is facing charges after two crashes on i-85 in gaston county this morning. investigators say junior santos hit a tractor-trailer while trying to merge just before nine this morning. having no license. police say when the truck driver went to put out caution triangles another car slammed into his truck. the driver of that car was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. police say a car hit a pedestrian in northwest charlotte sending that person to the hospital. it happened on mount holly huntersville road at bell haven boulevard. the pedestrian has broken bones, but will be okay. now we're asking if anyone will face charges. early this week north carolina health officials will release updated information on the number of mumps cases in our area.

two confirmed in iredell county, one in mecklenburg county. remaining eight are considered probably. the two confirmed cases in iredell county have been linked to lowe's headquarters in mooresville. health officials say two employees tested positive for the mumps. authorities are working to make sure the 4,000 people who work there stay safe. mumps is highly contagious. symptoms are like the flu, with fever, chills, headaches and body aches. tomorrow morning a morganton teenager charged with murder accused of plotting attacks in the name of isis will have a court hearing. justin sullivan is charged for the death of johnny clark whose body was found buried in his own back yard. authorities say sullivan ploted to kill americans in support of isis and discussed the importance of practice killing before carrying out a mass terror attack. new information tonight in deadly bombings in syria that isis has claimed responsibility

the death toll has now risen to 130 people. isis says two of its fighters set off a car bomb, then detonateed explosives they were wearing. world powers are working towards a cease-fire in syria. today john kerry said a professional agreement -- provisional agreement was reached toward that goal. the state newspaper reports lead levels in the water exceeded safety federal standard. most was found near columbia and rock hill. health officials say the spots with elevated lead levels are only 4% of the nearly 700 systems. earlier this week we learned new testing found lead in the drinking water in york county. carolina water services found

in fort mill and river hills in lake wily. people in impacted areas should run water 30 seconds as a precaution. william hill is charged with second degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. police reports say he shot blake in the parking lot of the budget inn hotel on january 23rd. we're asking police if hill and blake knew each other. new at 11 police say a man broke backwards on i-40 this morning and rammed into a car, killing himself and seriously injuring a woman. troopers say martinez was driving in reverse near raleigh when he hit a chevrolet around 3 this morning. he died in the crash. his passenger had minor injuries. le keisha williams was a passenger in the car martinez hit. she is in the hospital with broken ankles, broken ribs and possible bleeding in her brain.

you can fill it out online until tomorrow at midnight. elsa gillis, channel 9 eyewitness news. there are two more forums tomorrow night. one at myers park baptist church on queens road from 6:30 to 8:00. the other is at mayfield memorial baptist church on west sugar creek road. there will be someone from the board of education at each meeting. fire crews say an electrical malfunction in a home's heating system caused a fire in gastonia this morning. firefighters say it took about 10 minutes to put out the fire in the kitchen. the person inside at the time was able to make it out safely. the fire cost about $10,000 in damage. tonight we're working to find out if a suspect is on the loose after one person was hurt in a shooting just north of uptown. police say two cars exchanged gunfire before midnight last night on north graham street. investigators say an argument

a person was shot in the arm. we've reached out to cmpd to see if anyone has been arrested. tonight eyewitness news has learned the san bernardino county government that owned the san bernardino's shooter did not buy the software that could have stopped it. >> if they had, apple could have opened the phone for investigators. it cost four dollars a month. earlier the fbi got a court order forcing apple to create a method to unlock farook's phone. apple refused, saying that would threaten customers' privacy. security experts say farook's phone could alert them to other targets. meteorologist john ahrens says expect big changes in temps and rain this week. >> will be a chaotic week for us. big couple of drops down as far as temperatures go.

week and that could set the stage for some thunderstorms later on. at least this will be gradual. as you start out your monday and get ready for the morning and week, everything will be fine. will be a mild start in the low 50s. that should make your monday a little bit easier. as far as shower opportunities go, i don't any in charlotte tomorrow morning. possibly across the high country might get a couple of raindrops. futurecast suggests that possibility. instead what we'll be watching, see the clouds coming down from greensboro down i-85 into charlotte? that's the carolina wedge, cool air from raleigh that settles in over charlotte and you'll start to feel the difference as early as tomorrow. there's not going to be a lot of rain on the board at least initially for most of the day. instead, it's going to be a change, a gradual change in temperatures tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies in your forecast and uptown. high tomorrow about 60. all things considered, that's pretty good.

than what we saw today. in other spots you're going to start to feel more of that cooler carolina wedge. up into hickory and statesville, through harmony, taylorsville, mid-50s with a slightly better opportunity for rain. to the south in south carolina your neighborhood forecast, chester, mild, low to mid-60s under mostly cloudy skies and not a great rain chance. we mentioned gradual, so we start out with a small change tomorrow as the temps drop and even bigger one coming in tuesday and then on wednesday. as you make plans, ciaa tournament getting ready tuesday, you'll watch the temperatures dropping down into the low to mid-50s. some 20 degrees cooler than what we saw earlier this week. we also will be tracking heavier rain threats. make sure you have interactive radar. we have one coming in tomorrow
