but the north side of the metro, hunter rsville over to gastonia, up 205, new salem, norwood, we see rain moving off to the north. you'll see that in the next 10 to 15 minutes as you'll see more moderate downpour coming in. may not be as heavy, but it's persistent through morganton, highway 64. of course, the mountains all dealing with some very steady rain fall to begin. so the morning drive goes without saying, it's a mess, you'll see wet roadways. the rain chance will start to ease, but that will likely come toward the tail end and the damage will be done. future cast time line when that rain eases up and talk about tomorrow's storm threats. our time is 5:01, let's go over to mark taylor. >> a couple of problems, but i wanted to check the road

rain is playing a factor. so far, so good for the major interstates. 77 for the huntersville. 65 for 85 south heading towards the university area. 85 coming in from belmont. you're at 61 and 45 on the outer loop. 70 miles per hour south of wilkins boulevard. this is happening on 4th near mcdowell. reports of an accident near trade street. and see if it is causing any delays next. john. >> right now, we are following breaking news out of northwest mecklenburg county. >> a s.w.a.t. situation that shut down a neighborhood for two hours overnight ended peacefully. eyewitness news reporter, angela, is live at the scene on pointer ridge drive, pushing for more information from police. angela. >> stephanie, within the last 30 minutes, we got closer to the scene after police cleared those roadblocks. we are standing in front of the

on in their investigation. this is where they have tried to serve that warrant and police cars are lining the street right now. this is pointer ridge drive. now, again, around 2:00 this morning, we're told that police were out here. try were trying to serve a warrant on a violent crime and when police arrived, well the person that they were trying to serve the warrant to, they barricaded themselves inside of the house and refused to come out. around 3:45, the s.w.a.t. team members actually went inside and were able to ors the person they were looking for. if you take a live look, you can see some patio furniture. we don't know if that was caused by the s.w.a.t. team members. this is an active investigation. so the police officers are still out here trying to figure out, talking to the people inside of this house. we are trying to find out more about the crime. this was a violent crime from a

just about 5:15, for the first time, we're hearing the 911 call moments after police say a man forced a teen into his car at gunpoint in east charlotte. >> then get in the car, and they jumped off and ran home. >> the victim's mother says her son was walking to school on conference drive early thursday morning. when the suspect pulled up in a white car and pointed a gun at him, then forced him into the car. the teen was able to unlock the door and jumped out while the car was moving. the victim told police the

tuesday morning, i'm stephanie maxwell. >> and i'm john paul. >> the rain may be easing, but the damage is done after steady downpours. the roads are not going to dry out in time for the morning drive. take caution and give yourself extra time. it's better than charlotte, the steady nature of the rain has eased. there will be showers out there and may be more in the form of a mist and drizzle in the city, but it picks up west from gastonia, to lincolnton, again, not heavy like we saw in spots last night, but it's coming down. from hickory into statesville, everybody in the foothills are dealing with light to moderate showers. there's one spot, it's moving east, basically from the mountain state park area as you cross highway 24 and 27. still some pretty heavy rain.

it was on the coast guard list of the riskiest ships. el farro sank near the bahamas. yesterday, a coast guard cap pain says the ship sank before that warning was released. being on that list would have triggered more safety investigations. your weather and traffic every ten minutes. here is meteorologist, keith monday, drivers need to take it easy. we've seen a lot of water standing on the roads. >> over 2 inches in the last two hours. the roads are very wet. even though over the last hour and a half, i have noticed the rain is easing a little bit across the city. it's still wet. you're going to find some mist and drizzle through the rest of the morning. but the steady stuff may have woken you up. further south in union county, as you head out toward wesley chapel into monroe, seeing some decent rain. northbound, indian trail,

again, while it's easing in spots, it's not completely done. northern stanley county, it's moving off to the east, so bypassing, very wet in the city of norwood. this is where the most widespread, but for morganton, hickory, newton, statesville, along i-40. for taylorsville up in the mountains, same story. light to moderate rain holding on up here and we'll continue to see these showers from the northern counties hang on for the longest stretch. you'll see the last to see this wind down. we are 48 in charlotte. look at the temperature differences. low 40s in the foothills and near 50 south. these numbers won't move a whole lot for the rest of the day today. we hover close to 50 and pocket of cold air that will hang up to the north, keeping you in the 40s all day.

charlotte. a few neighborhoods far south may warm up around lancaster and chesterfield as the rain begins to ease a little bit through the day. you'll see and temperatures start to go up. in the mist of the highest rain for the entire day. it steps up quickly as the day goes on, but it will still rain in the form of a mist and drizzle. even with the afternoon drive, should be a bit better than what we are dealing with. look at the downpours kicking in again. we'll see those stick with us through the night, through early tomorrow morning. waves of heavier storms working in. and that will sweep through in waves. by 11:00 tomorrow through midday. we'll pass through in the early afternoon. we will dry out, but it comes after some very stormy weather. large hail, strong winds, a very good bet of those, a small risk of a tornado popping up along with the threat for heavy rain. we'll talk more coming up at 6:00.

we'll need the umbrella today and tomorrow. >> the first half of our week is going to be a mess and now the morning drive is a mess. about 2 inches of rain in charlotte. just in the past 12 to 24 hours. it is easing since we went on the air at 4:30. the rain really wind down in charlotte. it's still damp, obviously, it's going to be misty and drizzly. it extends through lincolnton, through shelby, still raining as you head further westbound, it may be lighter than it was last night. i-40 corridor, and all points north into the mountains, it's a steady light rain. so this is not expected to wind down until probably 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, northern counties you're stuck with this for quite awhile. the heaviest rain across the entire radar screen moved across stanley county. so, i believe we're done now where the heaviest rain threats for the morning, but the damage is done. the roads are wet and they will
