>> it is my hope that we can continue to have his service through budget season and, you know, we'll be in discussion -- i'll be in discussion with council and with him to see, you know, what that all means. >> reporter: throughout his tenure, some on council weren't pleased with carlee. questioning his handling of the fire investigator who said she was wrongly terminated. but roberts told me they were in talks for him to stay on. >> we were in active discussion. about renewing that. and again, we will now actively discuss how we work through an interim period and move forward. >> reporter: carlee is expected to work out his contract, which expires at the end of next month.

that has fallen across the roadway. this is one example of damage due to powerful wind that is hit both north and south carolina. chris jackson was driving in south carolina when he captured these rotating clouds on his cell phone while a tornado warning was in effect for the area. thankfully it appears one never touched down. still systems throughout the day packed powerful wind causing widespread power outages and damage in both north and south carolina. here in downtown sharall, crews were busy downing a tree that snapped in half. in charlotte, thousands of people also lost power. some had cars and homes damaged by fallen trees. the charlotte fire department posted this sign on one home warning people it wasn't safe. >> reporter: damian said he was at work when he got a text
