you will have to pick up. and this morning we are starting in the breaking news center. i'm brittney johnson. medics responded. just take a look at this. this is video from our d.o.t. camera in that area. you can see the backup in the southbound lanes from the crash. the crash itself happened off camera but crews cleared that area around 3:45 this morning. medic says no one was injured. we are asking how many vehicles were involved and what caused that crash. also breaking over night police responded to this two car crash around 2:20 this morning. a car was making a turn near east wt harris when it hit an suv. the passenger of that suv was taken to the hospital. medic police told us the man driving the car didn't have a license, only a visa. we are asking if he will face

police in hickory are asking for your help finding a couple that stole very expensive diamond rings from a jewelry store. investigators released these surveillance pictures. this is from the jewelry exchange in hickory. the couple asked to see rings with large stones and that is when police say the man grabbed the diamonds and walked out. in all police say the couple stole more than $220,000 in jewelry. police in rock hill are looking for a man that chased a downtown area. investigators say a woman noticed a man following her down rural street thursday afternoon and when she turned around again she said she saw knife. that is when she ran into the bathroom of a nearby bank. all of this happened just a block away from winthrop university. police hope surveillance video from the bank will help them track down that suspect.

new this morning there could be a special legislative session in the works after charlotte's council approved a nondiscrimination ordnance that includes -- the ordnance would go into effect april 1st several weeks before state lawmakers are due back in session. but now republicans are considering whether to step in and stop the policy before it even starts. sean long of the advocacy group equality north carolina says it's not a state issue. >> our state has gone a little crazy getting involved in local issues when they are totally ignoring state issues. >> republican lawmakers say it is a state issue. calling it a public safety concern. if state house speaker tim moore calls a special session, it would cost taxpayers $42,000 per day and a three fifths majority of house members will need to call that into session.

channel 9 has learned owe koa ewe know has been hospitalized for flu symptoms and not a possible stroke. she did not suffer a stroke and she went to the hospital on her doctors advice. she should be released today. one was recovered when police arrested johnny bing wednesday. police say they tracked bing through a receipt left at one of the fire stations. we have reached out to police to learn more about the new charges and we have not heard back. sled officials are investigating a south carolina shooting that injured a deputy. berkeley county sheriffs deputies say the suspect travis

activity including forgery and altering checks. around midnight friday deputy say corporate gist followed a suspicious vehicle. moments later gist said she was involved in a fight. that is when smith fired several shots at her. police eventually found smith at a house nearby where he shot and killed himself. jest is doing well this morning but she might need more surgery. new developments in a stand off in washington state. officials say a 12-year-old girl appears to be the only survivor of a shooting that left five people dead and she is related to the victims. authorities say yesterday a man called an officer he had dealt with in the past and say he shot and killed his family of four. officials negotiated with him for three hours before they entered the home and found the victims. they say he took his own life. we checked over night and none of the victims nor the gunman's name has been released. in kansas police say 90

fire thursday he got a restraining order. the harvey county sheriff believes that is what cedric ford to kill three people and injure 14 others yesterday. a 28-year-old woman is now charged with knowingly providing a weapon to a convicted felon. they say she gave ford two guns including an ak47. today is the big finale to the ciaa tournament the in charlotte and fans are expected to if pack time warner cable arena for the finals. many people tell us they come back every year because they feel like there is something there for everyone. this is the 11th straight year charlotte has hosted the ciaa tournament. the 2014 tournament brought in nearly $47 million. if you plan to go to ciaa today, you may need extra cash for parking. the green parking garage on south tryon street this is near mint museum. they are charging $10 instead of $7 for parking.

charlotte center on wilkinson boulevard. piedmont airlines will be looking for a job fair today. they are look for 300 jobs. it's a subsidiary of american airlines and they handle ramp operations and regional customer service for american. that company is hiring managers, they are also looking for entry level ramp and customer service agents today. the union county board of education says it will hold a special meeting monday that isn't saying exactly what the meeting is about other than it deals with a confidential personnel matter. the announcement came yesterday just hours after the investigators say they would not pursue criminal charges in a case involving the union county superintendent mary ellis. back in november channel 9 learned the union county sheriffs office launched an investigation into complaints of possible conflict of interest involving ellis.

police are investigating after a man says he was pulled out a vehicle and beaten with a steel pipe. hour partners at the gaston gazette says the assault happened on union road. he was sitting in a parking lot when he was pulled out of a car by two suspects. the suspect beat the man in his head and back with that steel pipe. 6:33 right now. this charlotte man will be in court again next month after police charged him with his mother's murder. channel 9 was there thursday night as police took irwin feldman to jail yesterday a judge repaysed to give -- refused to give him bond. >> either some bomb shell came up two years into the investigation or they were just putting blocks on blocks on blocks and have just gotten to

>> police served search warrants thursday at feldman's home and office. changes are coming to the controversial diverging diamonds in cornelius. the nc d.o.t. is making changes by adding a charge lane. they hope to fix the congestion issues with the improvements. construction will happen during the nighttime beginning this spring. today a puppy that survived being shot 18 times with a bb gun in rock hill is finally going home with his new family. this six week old puppy has been adopted by ten-year-old disorders. she recently lost her life-long therapy dog and they had adoption requests from across the world but they decided to let kailey adopt brody because they shared a special bond. many have shared this story on

do the same. our area will see a host of job fairs including carowinds. they will hold a job fair from 1:00 to 5:00 at the park. carowinds is looking to fill 4,000 positions from entry level to supervisory positions including rides, entertainment, merchandise, life guards, and other departments. also theme park tweet c railroad is holding a job fair today. they expect to hire 250 employees to operate the facilities including food service, tickets, ride operations. the 2016 park season will begin on april 8th. north carolina state health officials say when it comes to flu this year, do not let your guard down. there have only been four deaths reported so far this season. that is far less than last year when two 218 people died. however, health officials say that while the vaccine is proving to be more effective

committee said earlier this month rio de janeiro will be safe for the games. nine pregnant women have the mosquito virus. three babies have been born, one with a brain defect. the two other pregnancies ended in miscarriages. the cdc is investigating ten more possible cases. two teens and a man accused of forcing their way into a man's home last summer and sticking a gun in his mouth. they are charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and other charges. the crime happened last july on cedar grove road in clover. police say the trio woke the victim up, demanded money from a safe and ransacked his hole. henning was arrested a month ago. unc charlotte student is speaking out about the lawsuit that he filed against an apartment complex after he was shot there.

days after thanksgiving last year. he says he was just walking on the sidewalk when all of a sudden he was shot. miller says he has no idea who shot him and the lawsuit claims the university house apartments failed to provide adequate safety. >> you feel like that should be hole. you should be able to walk and not fear anything. >> he hopes this will prompt new security changes so it doesn't happen to anyone else. the university says it has no comment about the lawsuit at this time. that shooting was one of four near unc charlotte campus in a matter of two weeks. three of the shootings happened at apartment complexes. the fourth was a road rage incident that left a 19-year- old paralyzed. students were upset that the university didn't use a campus alert system to let them know about the crimes but the university and the police department there says that it used that system only when there is a continuous threat or

bridges for the last two weeks senator tom davis has been filibustering or blocking the bill. work on a senate bill as hit a wall. yesterday senator west hayes of rock hill says senate rules will have to be changed to prevent this kind of frustration in the future. >> testing the road is the most important thing that will take up this bill. it's crucial. >> it is not clear what will happen to the roads bill right now which aims to raise taxes by more than $800 million and increase the gas tax by $0.12. north carolina's largest health insurer says it's broke. even in 2015. blue cross blue shield reported yesterday it earned $500,000 last year.

center i'm brittney johnson. medic says it responded to an accident around 3:00 this morning on i-77 near the john belk freeway and west boulevard. this is video from our d.o.t. camera there. you can see that backed up traffic there in the southbound lanes that is all from the crash. the crash itself happened off camera. crews cleared that area around 3:45 this morning. medic says no one was injured. we're asking how many vehicles were involved and what caused that crash. police responded to this two car crash around 2:20 this morning. the car was making a u-turn when it hit an suv. the passenger of the suv was take ton the-- was taken to the hospital. the man driving the car didn't have a license only a visa. we are asking if he will face any other charges. vicki graf is in severe weather center 9. starting off
