of anyone inj following this breaking news. we'll stay on the scene and bring you any new information as we get it. now let's check in with vicki graf for a beautiful and warm day. >> it is still a cooler start for the morning. we're in the upper 20s and low 30s right now. the mountains warmer upper 30s to low 40s. as we go throughout the day today we'll have a lot of sunshine. by 9:00 mid 40s. we will warm up quickly throughout the day today. highs will beless to 66 degrees well above average and a little breezy from time to time. i'm tracking our next round of rain. aisle have the timeline of when that arrives coming up in the next 15 minutes. channel 9 is following three other stories. that includes the unrest in a salt lake city neighborhood after an officer involved shooting. one person was shot last night and witnesses say it was a 16-

police say two officers were involved in that shoot. witnesses add many people became upset over that shooting and started throughing glass and rocks at officers. also breaking this morning a police officer shot and killed in virginia last night had just started on the job friday. police say officer ashley was killed yesterday while responding to a domestic violence call. two other officers were also shot and taken to the hospital but their conditions are unknown this morning. over night we learned more than 100 patrol cars lined the roads out of outside of that hospital stood vigil. we learned a shooting that injured a 14-year-old in west charlotte was an accident. it happened last night. police say the teenagers injuries are not life threatening. they told us they are not sure if the teen shot himself or if

police used a canine to search for any possible suspects. presidential candidate hillary clinton had an astounding victory in the south carolina primary. you can see clinton had a 73.5% share of the votes yesterday while sanders had 26%. and clinton's speech last night was a very positive one. she talked about working rocket for a better future and she also hit on two major points that -- two major groups she needs to vote for her youth and women. here is a little bit of that speech from last night. >> despite what you hear, we don't need to make america great again, america has never stopped being great. >> now clinton has been accused of being robotic during her speeches but last night it was different.

she quoted the bible and said we need more love and kindness in the world. despite a landslide primary win for clinton, her rival bernie sappedders is not giving up. last night he addressed a crowd of supporters in rochester. he was not in south carolina for yesterday's primary. here's what he had to say. >> it's about thinking big and the the kind of country we want to become. >> sanders will be in oklahoma and colorado today heading into super tuesday. a group told channel 9 they were not surprised by clinton's win. the campus has been a hot bed for politics in the recent months. many of the presidential candidates visited including sanders and clinton. >> pretty much expected at this point in south carolina since

>> clinton's campaign moving forward it means she has weight now. establishment as far as her base. for sanders that will let to him walking more. we are a few days away from super tuesday where all of the candidates will push for voters in 13 states including south carolina. both rubio and cruz rallied in parts of georgia yesterday. in atlanta cruz said he doesn't think it's good to see presidential candidates behaving like school children. rubio said trump is not a great businessman and added he has

you the updates on air and online at wsoctv.com. police are still trying to figure out what caused a deadly crash in lancaster county. it happened around 2:00 yesterday afternoon on unity church road north of lancaster. a driver went off the wrong side of the road on the left and then over corrected and went off the the road on the right hand side of the road. the man was thrown from the car and died. this man camden price is charged with statutory sex offense and taking indecent liberties with a child. he is in the gaston county jail this morning with no bond.

three guns in a vehicle. they have not said if they have a suspect in custody but we know so far no one is injured. we will continue following breaking news and bring you any new updates as soon as we get them. south carolina counties plan to spend less than half of the $216 million in road money lawmakers set aside last year. only $4 million of that money from last summers budget has been spent so far. 22 counties have not submitted their plans to the d.o.t. yet saying they are working to figure out which projects should get the money. lawmakers send more money to counties in this years budget. tom davis has been filibustering or blocking a road funding bill. the house passed that bill last year which would raise the gas

>> i saw that he had a big machine gun. i went blank. what do i do? >> that woman says she slid down inside of her car and managed to if drive off. ford first fired shots at an intersection hit manage in his car two miles away. he forced another driver off of a road and got this in another vehicle and shot him in the leg and then took that man's car. ford ended up at his workplace where he shot 15 people killing three of them. police shot and killed ford. we are starting off again in the 30s but expected to warm up even more than yesterday. >> yesterday we made it to 56 degrees but it was feeling good if you were standing underneath that sunshine. nothing on live early warning doppler 9 and we'll stay that way.

named students and teachers at west mcdowell middle school and they also threatened to rape and kill him. >> what has been tough for us is to sit there and tell them to be patient and let us find out the details. >> some parents said they even kept their children home from school on friday worried about those threats. tomorrow charlotte douglas airport will demolish the rental car buildings. demolition is expected to start at 11:00 tomorrow. it's part of an $8 million contract that will go toward building that new concourse. it calls for 25 new gates. the first phase will create nine new gates. the entire concourse will take

you can learn the latest information on each candidate. new this morning there is a new date for mooresville election forum involving republican candidates for iredell county board of commissioners. scheduling conflicts forced the event to be moved. there will be eight candidates participating in the forum. the forum begins that night at 7:00. it is at the charles max citizen center. the mayor of matthews plans to meet with people early next week to look into splitting from charlotte-mecklenburg schools. last week mayor jim taylor started considering separating from cms. they say they have concerns regarding student assignment. mayor taylor plans to form a

the agency said it will warn the impacted taxpayers about potential identity theft and offer them free credit protection. the irs has disabled that online tool hackers use to get taxpayers information. plenty of taxes go into effect as the ongoing move of consumption taxes. the new taxes will impose a 4.75% tax plus a local tax on labor. you can find a more detailed list of the other taxes going into effect this week. just go to our website wsoctv.com. you will find all of that information under our news tab. ohio woman says she contracted the zika virus back in december when she was volunteering in haiti. georgia said she started feeling sick with flu like symptoms toward the end of her trip but that was months ago before anyone really knew what the zika virus was.

still a lot of neighborhoods below that freezing mark. mountains much warmer. as we go throughout the day today, it is dry to start things off and we will stay dry lout the day. lots of sunshine as you can see as that sunrise is starting to get under way from our lake thor man camera and we will keep the sun around through the day. really no clouds to deal with. we will see temperatures warming into the mid 60s. well above average for today. so if you are a fan of the warmer weather, you will really enjoy today. yesterday we made it to 56 degrees. might have felt a little warmer if you were standing underneath that sunshine. neighborhood forecast for hickory again lots of sun. highs get into the lower 60s so really a great end to the weekend. tomorrow it's going to be warmer yet again. by midday already in the lower 60s. the mountains mid to upper 40s. we will see some clouds tomorrow. future cast takes us to the mid 60 by 5:00 and i expect some neighborhoods to be close to

but changes are on the way as we head toward the middle of the week. taking you through tomorrow, we are tracking some clouds and there is the potential for showers early on in the mountains. that line of clouds will move through charlotte but i do expect us to stay dry tomorrow. we're looking at a better chance for rain as we head toward the middle of the week. notice the temperatures they still stay warmer. up until tuesday we'll be in the upper 60s close to 70 degrees. as that chance for rain comes in by wednesday, that will knock us back down to the low 60s. we'll be dealing with 50s as we head into the start of the weekend. to time out the rain for you on future cast. tuesday morning we are going to stay dry. going through the afternoon clouds will start to build in and by wednesday morning we will see that wall of rain pushing into the mountains first and then that threat will approach the charlotte area. this isn't going to be a washout but we do have the potential for possibly a few isolated storms for this. as of now the severe weather threat will look low and that

just a minute. we start this morning in the breaking news center. thank you for joining us i'm brittney johnson. in the last ten minutes we spoke with cmpd and they are working to find out if more than one person is involved many a shooting in uptown charlotte. this is a live look at south caldwell street. it is still blocked off and police have been there for more than 90 minutes now. they told us that someone fired shots out of a vehicle possibly hitting the sky condominiums building which is right in that area. police also told us they did find several guns inside of a vehicle. south caldwell street.
