that are under investigation tonight. tina terry has been pushing for answers all day and is looking for answers on what led to the tina? >> reporter: erica, those who saw the video say that officers involved went too far. about an hour ago, a statement was released saying that internal affairs is investigating claims of accessive force. it's video that outraged some neighbors at this charlotte apartment complex. >> it doesn't take much for someone to look at this video and see this is too much. >> reporter: the short video, 9 seconds, was taken by a neighbor at sardis place. you can see the cmpd officers and a highway trooper surrounding the suspect, malcolm elliott. you can hear an officer

hands behind his back and one officer appears to strike him again and again. >> you got seven cops and one person. is that hard to take down one person? they are repeatedly hitting this kid. >> reporter: officers say this started when elliott hit another vehicle and kept driving. they say someone flagged down a highway patrol trooper to help. eventually cmpd officers responded to help locate the blue mazda 3 that they say elliott was driving and he ran. >> they all started going that way to the left and the other exit. and it was like need out ground. need you on the ground. >> reporter: officers say elliott resisted when they tried to put him in handcuffs, and internal affairs is excessive force. and so far, police have not given us the names of the officers seen in the video or

i want to show you scenes from the chopper that flew out this afternoon when there was five engines and two ladder trucks on scene. you can see the damage in the roof of the two story apartment townhomes. we're told that four units were destroyed by fire and another two severely damaged. in all, six families were dizzies dis -- displaced. i spoke with a man who said he was using a fire extinguisher to break glass to help quiet people out, and several people had to jump, and thankfully, there were no injuries. but right now, officials are trying to determine what caused this fire. greg suskin, eyewitness news. >> greg, thank you.

are asking for peace after a police officer shot and killed a suspect who was running away. the officer is white. the suspect, black. eyewitness news reporter mark becker is live at the scene in raleigh where a crowd is gathering tonight. mark? >> reporter: erica, there was a steady stream of people to be honest coming to downtown raleigh where the 24-year-old was shot and killed yesterday. there is a little tension here but not over the top, and there are questions as to why he was shot and whether the officer who shot him could face charges. red balloons and flowers frame the makeshift memorial to 24- year-old aquil denkins. police say that officers were trying to serve him with a warrant when he ran and

they found a gun close to his body but that hasn't begun to answer the questions here. >> is one is running away, that is not a license to kill. >> reporter: today with denkins' mother standing beside him and wiping away tears, they called for a complete and transparent investigation. >> she is titled to know why her son, somebody's brother, somebody's nephew was killed. >> reporter: raleigh police handed their investigation over to the fbi but we saw that the shooting is causing problems when a candlelight vigil that teetered on unrest. >> please join us in our call for calm, prayer, and patience and please keep all of those involved in your thoughts and prayers. >> reporter: just this

find out what caused the crash and anyone was injured. the union county school superintendent announced she is retiring. dr.mary ellis's retirement comes days after the d a announced no charges would be filed against her in the case of her company and a laptop contract. she has been with union county as superintendent since 2012. her last day will be june 1. stocks soared today getting off to a great start to the month of march, the dow surging 348 and the nasdaq, 131. a spike in oil prices pushed wall street higher, a 30% jump from february 11 when it was $26. this comes after saudi a raina, russia, and oil producers agreed to tentatively freeze oil. and now, gas prices will edge up because of this.

victims confessed to the crime on alexis lucia road. >> ma'am, are you crystal gambino? >> yes. >> reporter: that is the most crystal gambino said about the murder of her husband, giovanni. we learned that crystal and three victims were in the house together yesterday. the other 3 were shot and killed inside, all naked. crystal gambino reportedly dragged the female victim outside. family members asked police to check the home in stanly. they found crystal gambino at a friend's house and the gun believed to be used in the murder in her car and they got a confession. the news is stunning for people in the small rural community. >> it's kind of devastating to

an arrest warrant for the shooters involved and they told me there were multiple people involved. >> things always happen around here. >> reporter: waking up to news that a woman was found shot in the apartmenting lot of this apartment complex reinforced concerns over the safety of the community. >> we got kids around and shootings always happening with kids around. it's crazy. >> reporter: police say they found the victim in the 1800 block of griers grove road this morning and nearby at griers grove and beatties ford road, they found a man who was shot. both were likely shot at a mile and a half away. it was unclear how they ended up at separate locations. >> i don't know what to think, really, you know. just seems like it's happening all over. nowhere is safe. >> reporter: he department want
