they found shell casings in the road. they learned the same car left the scene, drove a couple blocks north. and parked in front of a house. inside the car, they found a teen dead. they found the driver of the car shot in the leg. and a third man was interviewed by police this afternoon. friends and neighbors we talked there. they were devastated to learn who was killed. >> he was just a baby. he didn't deserve this. we just want justice to be served that's all. >> this is the first homicide of the year for the city of rock hill. we've been given the name of the victim. but the coroner's office hasn't officially released it yet. three houses were shot in two not far from this area. police are trying to figure out if that is connected to what happened today. live in rock hill, greg suskin, channel 9 eyewitness news. greg has been keeping

with new developments. follow him at gsuskinwsoc9. charlotte fire and charlotte mecklenburg police searching a pond right now on albemarle road. i want to go straight to jenna deery. what can you tell us? >> reporter: it's activity that captured the attention of neighbors who live across the road next to the pond. we have divers in the water. it's not a big pond. neighbors say it's not deep. it's about four feet deep. we have charlotte fire in the water along with medic on stand by. but we were told that any information about this has to come from gaston county police who we have not gotten in touch with yet to get additional information. what we have gathered here taking a look at chopper 9 sky zoom from the aerial view is that these divers are in the

in the water they're looking for. no car. no weapon. but this is a police matter led up by gaston county police. so a very curious situation. neighbors have been asking us if we foe what's going on. we're trying to get answers now. they've been out here since noon. all day in the waters looking for something. we're here on scene to be here as divers come out of the water to ask additional questions and find out what they're looking for. but a lot of time and manpower and resources spent on a search here. but we have to get to the bottom of what it is they're looking for now, jenna deery, channel 9 eyewitness news. thank you. now to our other major story, flames took over a warehouse at this farmers market in page land causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. >> it caused so much smoke that chopper 9 sky zoom could see it

eyewitness news reporter ken lemon refuged new information about what started this fire. >> it started from burning debris just yards away from what you see now. the son of a man who owns part of what used to be a 20,000 square foot warehouse was working in an office inside. he had no idea the building was on fire until he smelled smoke. he stepped outside and faced a wall of flames and ran out the back door. you can see the flames shooting through the roof of the warehouse at the page land farmers market. four large trailers were destroyed. one was filled with tires. another filled with pallets. randy johnson owns part of the building and all the items destroyed. he was a few minutes away when someone called to tell him about the fire. he stepped outside. smoke. i knew i was in trouble. >> from chopper 9 we could see the smoke from uptown charlotte

firefighters say the enormous fire that forced them to shut down highway 601 started from these flames. someone was burning trash. they believe a strong wind drove a spark from the debris pile over to the warehouse. there was a lot of card board inside. and enough produce to prepare for the opening market in april. randy johnson had trouble putting a dollar value on the loss. >> a lot. >> he said to make matters worse, none of this is insured. >> start over as fast as you can and forget about it. >> the head of the farmers market says the building alone is probably worth $200,000. it was a graphic design business inside of that shop. it's also destroyed. he said the building is old. and that's why they weren't able to get it insured. fortunately the rest of the farmers market, the farmers

ken lemon, channel 9 eyewitness news. ken, thank you. now we put more video of the firefighters battling those flames at wsoctv.com. look for it inside ken's story on the home page. we have more breaking news on a shooting right in uptown charlotte. one person was rushed to the hospital. but we're told they'll be okay. chopper 9 flew over the scene in the past half hour. you can see police and medics helping that victim. police don't have any suspects in custody. tonight police are continuing to get in reports from women who say they were sexually assaulted by a south charlotte doctor. detectives charged dr. mario hernandez with assaulting three patients at his clinic on arrowwood road. since then they've heard from two dozen other women who also say he fondled them. prosecutors haven't filed charges in those cases at this time.

practice during the investigation. we're asking police if anyone is facing charges after a shooting in a noda driveway. two people shot at each other outside on north davidson street near seigle avenue. we learned six people, including a 13-year-old boy were standing nearby. they weren't hurt. but the bullets hit multiple houses. the leader of north carolina's transportation department will head to texas after a major shake up involving the toll lanes there. it could impact the controversial toll lanes here on i-77. eyewitness news reporter jim bradley confronted him about what he plans to learn during that visit. jim? >> erica, top state transportation officials say they still support the idea of putting toll lanes on i-77 here going north of charlotte. but there's no question that centra's bankruptcy filing in texas and the pr problems that poses for north carolina have

today secretary of transportation nick tennison was here in charlotte. the governor asked him to look at what happened. today secretary tennison told us his marching orders are clear. >> the governor said to me, i want you to look into this. i want you to make sure we're protected. the citizens of north carolina are protected in every way we can be. and that you give me a report about exactly what the choices are. just yesterday toll one opponents were telling us they hope to use that bankruptcy down in texas to pressure governor pat mccrory to cancel the state's contract. but today secretary tennison gave us little indication he'll recommend that. more on what he told us at 6:00 tonight. live in north charlotte. jim bradley, channel 9

today governor pat mccrory was in catawba county celebrating a community staple. he helped united sewing machine companies celebrate 30 years at its plant in con over. he touted the jobs it brought to the area and partnership with schools and technical education programs. after that event channel 9 spoke one on one with the governor about charlotte's controversial lgbt ordinance. coming up at 5:00, the expectations he says this regulation takes away. and the reason he says critics feel betrayed by it. republicans getting in last minute attacks aimed mostly at donald trump. today dual donald trump rallies in michigan served up what's become standard. calling out protesters. >> get out of here. >> hitting the media.

tonight, experts want to warn you that changing the password on your computer constantly may actually do more harm than good. the top technology expert after the ftc, the man charged with protecting consumers says that changing passwords may open you up to being hacked. the reason is they say the more often you have to change a password the more likely it is that you'll start coming up with bad ones. >> we're seeing that there's not a whole lot of value in forcing people to change their passwords. >> instead, the ftc is recommending companies allow people to keep one password for long periods of time but they say make it a good one. a district attorney in california believes the san bernardino shooters iphone could reveal a third gunman. the da filed court documents this week saying 911 calls from the december attacks reported three shooters. he says while the reports could

she told police he sexually assaulted her. grabbing her backside with both hands. >> i was very afraid she told me because i didn't know what he would do to me or my children. police believe it was at least the second incident in this park involving that same suspect described as a short latino man in his 20s or early 30s. in one other the victim told police he'd exposed himself to her. >> we, you know, of course take this all very, very seriously. >> lieutenant christian wagner told us the suspect was gone by the time officers got here that day but police have since set up cameras here hoping to spot the suspect. no luck so far. but they're still watching out here constantly. >> you officers in this area know what has happened and they're aware that's an area they need to be patrolling and staying in when they're not responding to calls. >> now police tell us so far
