drops and cloudy skies. this will be moving on quickly by 8:00 or 9:00. we're tracking it right now. a good soaking shower right now pushing south of hickory, right now into the newton community, south of conover. the golf course and out he's in western parts of iredale county. right near clairemont. in the next hour. this patch of showers will get up in the morrisville by 11:50, and after that. to the south along the carolina border, boiling springs, showers and now over chesterfield, south carolina, some light rain fall. all this will be clearing out and that's really the only thing that we have to help ease the allergy situation, which is really building over in charlotte. it is going to really take over starting tomorrow. i'll be mapping out better rain opportunities when we come back. >> we're tracking the showers before you head out the door,

morning starting at 6:00 a.m. tonight, this tow truck driver is charged for shooting a truck owner after booting his vehicle. we first broke this story at noon. new at 11:00, eyewitness news reporter, tina terri went down to the community and talked with neighbors still shocked this happened. tina. >> reporter: yes, neighbors here are frustrated tonight. they want to know what led up to all of this. >> they are hiring these people to come in here and tow people without really knowing who these people are is is the scariest part. >> residents of park south station on edge tonight after learning this tow truck driver, jarvis simpson was arrested accused of shooting the owner of this truck in a parking lot here with a 9 mm glock. >> apparently there's police that are supposed to be monitoring the neighborhood. so, that's the more important question is where was the cops during this? >> officers haven't said what

this morning, but a witness captured part of the confrontation on video. it shows the seconds after the shooting. neighbors say the tow truck driver kept his gun pointed at the man, even after he shot him. you can see the man who was shot riding away. parking is a consistent problem in the neighborhood. tonight they want answers about what happened and they say something should be done to keep it from happening again. >> they are limited in some parking. it would be good to see a few more spots to be put up. the mattress association perhaps to get involved and potentially screening these guys. >> he is out of jail tonight. and we looked up his record, he does not have a criminal past. reporting live tonight from south charlotte, tina terry,

>> tina, thank you. happening tonight, family, friends, and classmates gather to remember a high school student killed in a car crash earlier this week. 15-year-old, heaven seay died tuesday morning when the car she was in went off the road and into the woods. tonight's vigil started at 6:00. she was a very special person. >> she made an impact on everyone's lives. if you go to her school, her guidance counselors is upset about it. >> just trying to console them to let them know that things will get better. i'm having a hard time consoling my own daughter and i just wanted to be here for all the young people. >> heaven was one of three students from west meek inside the car that went off the road. two other students were seriously hurt in the crash, but survived. police say austin locke was the one driving when he lost control and crashed. he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. police say speed was a factor

authorities told channel 9 charges are pending. the family will hold a visitation for heaven tomorrow at forest lawn funeral home. a funeral is monday. that is not open to the public. all new at 11:00, a charlotte man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the shooting death of a man during a robbery that happened three years ago. ruben curry was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of ronnie steele. curry has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. authorities say steele was shot and killed in 2013. when three men tried to rob him on wedgefield drive near west boulevard. prosecutors say curry's dna was found on latex gloves found at the scene. cmpd said two men have life threatening injuries after both were found shot in the yard of an east charlotte home. we first brought you this as breaking news at noon. at 6:00, we told you police are not looking for any suspects. someone driving by saw the men in the grass along carriage

neighbors say it is unsettling. >> it makes me feel uncomfortable. my brother is here. my sisters, so it's something that when you happens, it makes you feel insecure. >> tonight, we're asking police what led up to the violence. >> tonight, police in rock hill told channel 9 they are still working to figure out if a string of shootings are connected. it started thursday night when bullets hit throw homes. then yesterday afternoon, 18- year-old, darius harding was shot and killed at the corner of black street. witnesses say harding was in a car with two others when a man standing outside fired shots at the car. new at 11:00, the chairman of the iredale republican party stepped down from that role today. and announced he will run for u.s. congress in the state's 13th district. our partners at the statesville record and landmark report mooresville -- after the north

new maps following a court ordered redistricting. the 13th district now covers a large part of iredale county. we told you last month north carolina lawmakers redrew the maps after federal judges ruled them unconstitutional. they said the lines had been drawn based on race. district 12 in mecklenburg county. super saturday is coming to an end. with hillary clinton and donald trump still on top. in just the last 20 minute, trump called for senator marco rubio to drop out of the race. here is abc's ray. >> everyone is trying to figure out how to stop trump. >> once again, the super saturday showdown started off with a big win by cruz. the texas senator swiping voters by a 2-1 margin in the state of kansas and also taking the state of maine. >> the only campaign that can and will beat donald trump in this race. >> the spotlight shined once again at a donald trump rally

>> tomorrow, rubio will open an office in cornelius. new at 11:00, police in raleigh are investigating another shooting in the same neighborhood that a man was killed in earlier this week in an officer involved shooting. police responded to the scene around midnight friday. same neighborhood ahkeel denkins was shot in. witnesses said denkins was running away when he was struck. we just checked and police say they have not made any arrests after two brothers were shot early this morning in sols suli sbury. authorities say there was an altercation before the shooting, but they are still investigating. police have not yet identified a person killed in a

happened early this morning. state highway patrol said the victim lost control of a race car on a dirt road, flipped over, and was thrown from the vehicle. officials say the car landed on him. the driver was not wearing a seat belt. speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. the charlotte mecklenburg association of educators held a breakfast this morning to discuss what some are calling an educational crisis in north carolina. the group met in south charlotte at the church along with mayor jennifer roberts. teacher salarys salary were a large focus at the meeting. >> i think we need to do is to get parents and teachers and citizens to advocate. >> we have been reporting for months the teachers have been leaving the state because of low salaries. the north carolina board of education created six priorities they want the governor to consider.

number one in the south for teacher salaries. currently sits at 11th out of 12 states. new tonight, a planned apartment complex in ashville will help new teachers find affordable housing. the ashville citizen times reports 28 units are expected to be built and open by the summer of 2017. it's a $2.5 million complex. ashville city schools are among the partners behind the project. a kershaw man is charged after police connected him to three different burglaries in lancaster county. our partners at the harold report michael was orsed thursday. deputies say between february 19 and march 1, he broke into two homes stealing cash and other goods and stole items from a truck parked outside a home. officials are trying to connect them to even more burglaries in the area. new developments after a knife was uncovered on o.j. simpson's old property. they are examining the knife

>> she had a future. >> jennifer was a star student in the process of applying to college when that future was cut short. >> jennifer was 17 years old when she was murdered. >> jennifer's mother says her daughter was the type to put a smile on anyone's face. >> if you were sad, you were not when you were talking to jennifer. >> her life was taken by her sister's estranged husband. her sister just filed a restraining order against him. >> once the restraining order has been filed, that's the most dangerous time. >> angry, monique came to their home while andrea, jennifer, was there. he shot through the window and came inside. >> i just heard a lot of screaming. i heard my grandkids screaming. >> unable to find julia, andrea says he went into jennifer's room. >> jennifer was on the floor trying to stay out of range. and he shot her four times.

andrea is hoping her story and domestic violence advocacy helps others before it's too late. she says looking back, she saw signs of abuse in her daughter's relationship that led to her other daughter's death. now she wants to encourage others to speak up. >> let people understand that other people have gone through it and that it needs to be talked about. >> andrea is hosting aawareness symposium. proceeds will support a program she created in her daughter's memory. that offers empowerment to women who experienced or at risk of domestic violence and abuse. as for moody, his crime spree didn't stop with the murder of jennifer. he kidnapped others. moody was later found dead in a swamp from a drug overdose. on monday, d.o.t. crews will close a bridge in gaston county after an inspection found a number of

it's the bridge on hills creek road between dallas and stanley. traffic will be detoured to old willis school road and rine road. it's unclear when the bridge will reopen. tomorrow is the beginning of severe weather preparedness week in north carolina. governor pat mccrory declared march 6 through 12th as a time to get ready for spring. mccrory encourages everyone to have evacuation plans in space. john is tracking showers in the area. john. >> starting to pick up right now up across north western parts. should say of lake norman. right now, some light rain fall all over statesville. down in the east to the southwestern parts as you get into ford, and near lake norman state park. down to the south and west, still some rain fall.
