results in the race for the white house. bernie sanders with a big night, donald trump winning michigan as well. the crown jewel of the evening. sanders pulled off the upset victory in the first industrial state to vote so far. defying the polls and pundits but hillary clinton scored big in mississippi claiming more than 80% of the votes. now they're poised to face off again. returning to the debate stage tonight for eighth time. it is "your voice, your vote." abc's david wright has the latest from cleveland. david, good morning. >> reporter: kendis and reena, hello from cleveland where hillary clinton was clearly hoping to give a victory speech, instead she came out and addressed her supporters giving a standard stump speech telling busy week. >> as we move through this week of travel and door-knocking and phone-calling, if you work for

will work my heart out for you. i will work every single day. >> reporter: as late as tuesday, the polls showed her a good 10, 15 points ahead in michigan so the fact it turned into a late night is a surprise for her campaign and a disappointment. optimism. he told his supporters as he told us, he plans to fight on. >> what tonight means is that the bernie sanders campaign, the people's, the people's revolution that we are talking about, the political revolution that we are talking about is strong in every part of the country and, frankly, we believe that our strongest areas are yet to happen. >> reporter: sanders is in miami, florida, where he will be debating hillary clinton, a lot of eyes will be focused on that debate now as this democratic primary is newly energized. kendis, reena.

wright. michigan is sanders' first win. and will likely help him raise money. he gave thanks to supporters saying the corporate media counted us out. the pollsters said we were behind, but we won. thank you, michigan. sanders' snapchat account showing the democrat closely watching the michigan returns on tv. on the republican side the night belonged to donald trump with victories in michigan, mississippi and hawaii. >> ted cruz picked up idaho and battled it out with john kasich for second place in michigan but marco rubio came up empty-handed failing to win a single state. trump's victories followed a week of blistering attacks when the establishment bent on nomination. >> trump looked ahead to the general election. but not before taking a few swipes at his fellow republicans. they didn't do so well tonight, folks. didn't do well. they didn't do well.

a huge fire that destroyed chicago's largest indoor/outdoor flea market. the smoke that billowed from the scene could be seen miles away. one woman who was trapped in a bathroom had to be rescued. no one was injured and the cause of that fire is still unknown. a commuter train service resumes this morning in northern california following that derailment. officials say a mudslide triggered by heavy rains pushed a tree onto the tracks causing the derailment of the ace train. four seriously injured. first responders say it's a miracle no one was killed. turning to business the stock market's five-day winning streak is over, the s&p 500 and nasdaq were hit hardest. more than 1%. but the dow was also off.
