collins was killed when she was hit by a car on west sugar creek road at rutgers avenue at around 7:30 tonight. eyewitness news reporter alexa ashwell has been out there on the scene for hours now, and just got an update from police. >> reporter: scott, erica, police determined the 42-year- old woman was crossing the west section of sugar creek in this direction, when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle traveling west. you can see, there are no crosswalks in this section. we can go ahead and show you some video that we shot when we first arrived here. police said the driver tried to swerve to not hit the woman, but they collided. it was a very emotional scene as we saw family and friends of the victim here, we heard shouts, we heard cries. they were simply devastated by this. this stretch of west sugar creek road has four lanes,

it's a fairly busy road, lined with businesses. one man who has an auto shop here said he heard the impact. >> somebody's in the road. i'm checking out the area. >> reporter: and again, this is a look at the orange marking where this crash occurred. police haven't charged the driver. it doesn't appear he was at fault in this again. police identifying the year-old marianne collins. reporting live in north charlotte, alexa ashwell. now to a developing story tonight, police and the fbi have been on the scene at this home for hours tonight. they're out there looking for clues after officials say a man and woman were caught out there burying a body.

as breaking news today at 5:00, since then, dayshawn brown -- >> reporter: he and his nephew both lived in this home. tonight, police have been waiting here for hours for a search warrant to go inside. many saw how it ended. this is the scene in alexander county from the air and the grounds a deputies arrested this couple, both charged with murder, and trying to bury the victim's body. our cameras were rolling as the suspect admitted to the crime. >> i just panicked to hide him, and i didn't know what to do. >> reporter: tonight the challenge for investigators is finding where and how it happened. >> had no idea that it was this close to home. >> reporter: amy parker thomas lives just blocks away from the

authorities identified him as tico hearne and says his nephew lived with him at this home. >> there was a lot of dynamics in this situation. you have a nephew and an uncle. >> reporter: tonight, police gathered here waiting on a want to search the home. his wife sat vacant on the porch where neighbors say tico horn would often sit. neighbors say tico hearne was we loved trout this community. >> a lot of times he would have his radio on and he would be out dancing, as people would come blow the horn, or go on the sidewalk and dance with him. >> reporter: we checked and found that the suspect, tony hearne was released from federal prison in december. neighbors say his uncle lived here alone prior to his release.
