you to be with me that you also may be where i am. >> also reflecting on her life. her daughter and son. mrs. reagan will be laid to rest next to her husband in the hillside tomb. tonight a north carolina trooper's home is riddled with bullet holes. deputies say this happened after his neighbors got into a fight. eyewitness news reporter dave faherty was at the home. deputies collected a lot of evidence. you spoke to the troopers wife about this. >> she was obviously alarmed by what happened. she tells me minutes before that shooting, she had left with the couple's three young children to go run some, errand s. >> we spoke with his wife who was stunned to see the seven rounds that tore through the home. >> i was thankful that we weren't here. overwhelmed it had happened

but grateful that no one was hurt. although we weren't targeted, it wasn't meant for us. it still happened to us. >> sheriff deputies two of the patrol men's neighbors got into an argument. the dispute escalated when one neighbor says he grabbed the high powered rifle out of ethan young's hands. investigators s y young got a second rifle and chased the neighbor, firing the weapon out. the victim says he drove to the state troopers home looking for help. >> i'll go by his house and get his attention and get him to take care of the problem. and he wasn't here. >> tonight young is charged weapon with intent to kill. felony discharges a weapon into an occupied residence or vehicle. the highway patrol man was working when his home was hit by the gunfire. his supervisor is glad he and his family weren't inside. >> concern and basically thankful that no one got hurt. and he was not involved in this. and didn't have any knowledge of this whatsoever.

incidences that happen. >> deputies say the 21-year-old suspect may not have known that that was a state trooper's home because his patrol cruiser wasn't there because he was working in iredell county. i can tell you that suspect is locked up at the detention center under a quarter million dollar bond. live from taylorsville, dave faherty, channel 9 eyewitness news. all right dave, thanks. dave tweeted out updates on the story all day. you can stay on top of stories he covers by following faherty@w faherty@wsoctv9. a security guard told police he was on rozzelles ferry road when a man shot him in the arm and leg and carjacked him. the man went to several homes in the area looking for help this morning. police are still looking for the car he was driving.

that shooting adds on to the all ready violent week that we've seen here in charlotte. on tuesday there were four shootings that stretched from west to east charlotte over the course of eight hours. six people injured. police don't believe any of those were connected. yesterday a man was shot and killed on parkland circle. city council members say the violence has to stop. tonight at 6:00, jenna deery breaks down how that could cost you. as soon as we learned about the shootings we sent out news alerts to viewers on their telephones. app. in our vote 2016 coverage, we found out nearly 39,000 early votes have been cast ahead of tuesday's primary. new tonight, democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton's campaign announced today. she is coming to charlotte on monday. the day before north carolina's primary. she's expected to appear at the grady cole center in elizabeth. she's scheduled to speak at 7:30.

presidential candidate bernie sanders brought his message to the tar heel state. he spoke to an over flow crowd at memorial auditorium in raleigh. sanders hit on key points such as creating an economy for the working and middle class. before his speech, he explained he's the candidate who can beat republican front runner donald trump. >> i think if you're going to vote logical, then you want a candidate who's going to defeat donald trump in november, you know what, i am the candidate. every pole -- almost every pole out there shows me beating trump often by double digits. >> the most recent pole found that north carolina democratics support clinton over sanders. on the republican side, another one of donald trump's former rivals endorsed him today. dr. ben carson said that he's buried the hatchet and announced he's backing the realestate mogul. also today, marco rubio's

strategy to defeat trump. they suggested that ohio republicans vote for governor john kasich in order to stop trump from getting the nomination. another strategy is to get voters to switch their party affiliation. and tonight at 6:00, eyewitness news anchor john paul is breaking down how many people are switching and why. police say they believe the shooting in pittsburgh that killed five people including a pregnant woman was planned. prosecutors say the first gunman shot from the alley and forced the victims out of the back porch and there they say a second suspect was waiting for them and started shooting with an assault rifle. all of those killed were shot in the head. three other people were wounded as well. at a vigil for the victims, healing. >> our hearts are broken. we're just devastated by what's happened to our community. >> police don't have any now. they are offering a 20,000- dollar reward for information. all new at 5:00, the

autopsy for a woman killed inside of a motel in cornelius. the report shows that daniel newel drowned. very disturbing details say she was found tied up and submerged in a bathtub inside a room at the inn back in december. police arrested and charged her husband timothy leonard with her murder. a witness told officers he heard screaming in that room the night before. within the past 45 minutes gaston county police reached out to channel 9 again to get investigation. we brought you this story last night at 6:00 and we first showed you this surveillance video showing a dark dodge dart. along gobble street. families say someone in that car has been trying to lure children away. we also have an update about this recycling truck fire that happened in midtown. we have now learned it started from a piece of card board. the driver first noticed smoke coming from the truck on yesterday morning.

able to stop until he got to a parking lot on metropolitan avenue. he dumped the burning card board and charlotte firefighters put it out. the water is finally back on for 100 customers in steele creek after a contractors mistake shut off the water for 18 hours. this effected people in the steel chase neighborhoods. eyewitness news reporter greg suskin learned it's become a common problem. >> reporter: utility crews began working on this problem over night. if you look on sandy porter road, you can see they're still working back there. just finishing up this long process. what started this? other crews installing new technology. neighbors in the steel chase community lost water service around 5:00 yesterday afternoon. brady gonzales says it was a rough night. speak we can't use the bathroom. there's no water to drink. there's nothing. >> more than 100 homes had their water cut off after a contractor for at&t dug into the line that runs along sandy porter road.

fiber lines when they made the mistake. we've been reporting on these incidents for months. we told you about a contractor for google. that damaged a natural gas line effecting homes in the highland creek neighborhood of north charlotte. contractors often hit gas, phone, and water lines, even if their location is marked. the city did bring in bottled water yesterday and today. some families took action themselves. >> we went to my brothers house to fill up water and brought it home in case. >> we're asking how often these accidents happen. we looked back at the archives and noticed one utility line break between july and october. most by contractors working for at&t and google fiber. here water was restored by noon today. cima tells us the communities in the area shouldn't have to boil water but if they see the water is discolored they can run it for a few minutes. greg suskin, channel 9 eyewitness news. new tonight, the union

trying to track down the person who robbed an indian trail fast food restaurant at gunpoint. take a look at these surveillance pictures. investigators just sent them to us. you can see the suspect up here on the counter wearing a black ski mask, dark colored hoodie, sweat pants and black and red gloves. this happened sunday at the arbys on the expressway. if you have any information, call union county crime stoppers. we're asking what caused an awning to collapse outside the whole foods in south park. take a look. in this video it looks like a support for the awning uprooted itself from the ground there. we can see workers loosening bolts today to take it apart and move it off. the seven foot awning landed on top of a car and caused minor damage but nobody was hurt. prosecutors upgraded charges against a former coach and teacher accused of stealing money from a booster club. jennifer was originally charged with embezzlement and now she's

funds by a public officer or trustee. prosecutors say she took more than $500 from a cheer booster account at kramer ton middle school. city leaders are moving forward with a plan to redevelop the former eastland mall site in east charlotte to include a park and a school. on monday they'll vote to sell part of the property to charlotte mecklenburg schools. the plan is to build a kindergarten through eighth grade school there. they're seeking private developers to build on the land. a family dog shot and killed then dumped on the side of a road. >> it just takes a really sick, twisted person to just shoot an innocent dog. >> the steps a local family is taking to find out who did it. >> there's warm and then there's this. we hit 80 degrees for the first time this season in the charlotte area. 2 degrees shy of the all time record. i'll show you if this warmth

there were new developments tonight in the results of the charlotte mecklenburg student assignment survey. cms says there was an error. 82% of parents disagreed they'd be okay to get their children to schools. but yesterday's report shows parents agreed with that. stephanie maxwell went through the report and found other information missing. it's more than 200 pages of information that uncovers what

selecting a school for their children. as cms looks to improve diversity and academics across the board. the results broken down for all of cms and each district. but when i flipped flu the pages to see your answers about where you live, how much you make, and your race or ethnicity, there's nothing. >> i think it will be helpful to know more about the people who responded. >> i took that question to tom tate who chairs the committee that developed the student assignment survey. he doesn't know when that information will be made public. but he assures me it will be. with more information about the responses and what he calls the initial report. >> it's what we decided to do was to get as much of the data that people actually were responding to questions about before the board as quickly as possible. >> the results show those in districts one and six which include huntersville, cornelius, davidson, mint hill, and matthews, strongly favor

schools to achieve diversity. those towns are now questioning whether they should break away from cms. tate says the board has not had a chance to look closely at the districts priorities. this leaves a lot of uncertainty for community leaders and parents as to what happens next. is it going to improve, you know, student involvement, or the schools, or is it going to hurt us? in charlotte, stephanie maxwell, channel 9 eyewitness news. both matthews, and mint hill are forming task forces to study the issue of leaving cms and forming their own district. town council could vote on a resolution monday night. wsoctv.com. look for the break down inside the home page. there's an investigation inside davidson after inappropriate pictures of a 17-year-old student were emailed to several teachers at the community school of davidson. a search warrant says the

her iphone and sent it to her boyfriend who also attends the school. police are trying to figure out who sent the picture to the teachers. a building that was slated for demolition last month will be coming down next thursday. mecklenburg county officials brought the home -- rather bought the home on stafford circle in southeast charlotte because it's in a flood zone. they're giving it to charlotte's fire department to burn down. and they'll practice fighting fires in a real world situation when they do that. we showed you hundreds of buildings across the area on the demolition list that are still standing. some of those are coming down. >> historic flooding across the deep south is blamed for at least five deaths. six states from texas to tennessee are either under flash flood watches or warnings. after days of rain. the rapid rise in the flood waters forced emergency evacuations and surprised homeowners in the middle of the night.

sleeping. >> the national guard has all ready rescued 3500 families from their homes and black hawk hell cometters have been used to save drivers from submerged streets. we haven't seen numbers like this in a long time. rain totals across mississippi, alabama, arkansas, louisiana, a foot to a foot and a half of rain. that's normally reserved for a slow moving tropical system. and this is a pure tropical air mass that's being lifted north out of the gulf. and eventually it's going to have its sight set on the carolinas. thankfully, in a much weakened form. here's the way the clouds look on our live early warning doppler 9. you can see them from the tower cam. just high clouds. temperatures still incredibly warm. 81 in matthews. upper 70s from waxhaw and monroe back to ballantyne. gastonia and belmont.

are believe it or not skiers out there. an evening walk, sun down, 6:30, you have sunlight left. temperatures will slowly fall back down through the 70s. heading toward over night lows like this morning. right around 60 in the immediate area. mid 50s over the high country. tomorrow's future cast, more clouds than we saw today. a few showers around in the morning. mainly charlotte north. but the main batch of rain, what we see of it will come during the afternoon. even then. not a lot. just scattered showers dotting the landscape. you'll be dodging rain but nothing to cancel plans over. mid 60s at lunch time. that will likely be the brightest part of the day. then we'll see scattered late day showers. forecast in gastonia, plenty of clouds and warmth. down toward lancaster, temperatures in the mid to upper 70s with those late day showers. a better chance of rain as

that's how a south carolina manmade an incredible catch off the coast. a 2500-pound great white shark. look at this. charter boat captain chip took a customer out this week for some deep sea fishing near hilton head when they caught that monster shark. they battled the great white for four hours trying to haul it in. the two men had to call for back up after a few hours. >> we were both exhausted. i fought it for a while. he fought it for a while. we went back and forth. and i can't really feel the left side of my body today. but it was worth it. >> the fishermen let the great white go after they reeled it in. before they did that they put a tag on the shark's dorsal fin so scientists can track its movements. they used a rod and reel to catch the shark. the captain of the boat says

happened in 30 years. we posted the story on our facebook page so you can share it with your friends. like us to get updates on developing stories throughout the day. north carolina's lottery director says the state could collect more money if it expands the number of games it offers. the director says the biggest bump could come from adding video lottery terminals similar to video poker and sweepstakes games. any new games would have to be approved by lawmakers. right now scratch off and state run drawings are expected to generate 2 billion in sales of that 529 million will go forward education. -- go toward education. the military is looking into the possibility that chemicals from its foam my have contaminated ground water at hundreds of sites nationwide. the defense department says the problem is near its training facilities. there are 26 of those sites in south carolina. the defense department says it's identified 664 sites nationwide that will have to be tested.

5:30, a family dog shot to death and then dumped on the side of a local road. >> this was done out of malace. out of just somebody being mean. >> a local family's mission to find the shooter and how the community is all ready helping. then a massive company opened up right on the state line. creating hundreds of jobs. the deal it took to land it. >> and a woman arrested for stealing a ambulance from outside the emergency room here at the carolina's medical center.

and i ask for your vote. tonight, this woman is in jail. accused of stealing an ambulance from carolina's medical center. it happened last night right after emergency crews brought in a patient. >> today eyewitness news reporter mark becker found out how they tracked her down and asked why the keys were left inside the emergency vehicle. >> a fully loaded ambulance is probably the last vehicle you'd expect to find stolen and this is probably the last place you'd expect to have it disappear from. the hospital. but that's exactly what happened last night at about 11:00. the ambulance crew had gone into the emergency room here at

their truck open for just a few minutes. >> all the trucks have the keys in the ignition. >> medic spokesman told us it's standard procedure to leave keys in the ignition at the hospital so crews can focus on patient care. but when they got back out last night the truck was gone. >> we notified dispatch immediately and we were able to see exactly where the truck was and get cmpd in route. >> all medic ambulances had gps units and they tracked it out to albemarle road near harrisburg where police were finally able to stop it. and where they found 34-year- old autumn behind the wheel. a woman other crews remembered seeing at the emergency room. >> this person was seen for 30 minutes hanging around. we thought like everybody else that they were waiting to be picked up. >> she may have just been heading home. her house is just several miles from where police stopped her. no one answered the door there
