a great night. now from the news team covering the carolinas. this is channel 9 eyewitness news at 11:00. >> breaking news. mayhem at a donald trump rally. protesters and supporters clash. the chaos that erupted inside before pulling out on to the street. good evening, i'm allison latos. >> i have been been monitoring the fallout. donald trump canceled the event

the chaos started to unfold in the last 3 1/2 hours. the presidential candidate just talked about his choice to cancel that event and call the whole thing off. >> we made a decision, even though our freedom of speech is violated totally. we made a decision not to go forward. i don't want to see anybody get hurt. >> in the last hour, president obama and ted cruz spoke out about what happened there. the president said he's not shocked by that. and cruz said that trump bears responsibility for the culture being set. after the announcement that tonight's announcement was canceled protesters erupted into cheers, but supporters shouted we want trump. many groups clashed and some threw punches. trump has come under fire the past few days for a violent incident. video from wednesday night in fayetteville. as he was leaving, deputies did

with assault the next day. trump says the protests are not directed at him, but more than likely anger in the country that has been going on for years. we posted the video of the intense moments inside tonight's rally on our facebook page. you can see the video and share your thoughts by liking our page. we're following more breaking news now out of west charlotte. in the last two hours, a bus collided with a vehicle. it happened at west morehead street and wilkinson boulevard. two people and the driver were on board. it's a sprinter bus that goes to the airport. three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. right now, we're asking police what led up to that crash. a new picture of a teenager in davidson spread through her school even to some of her teachers. >> we first brought you this story at 5:00. new at 11:00, elsa gillis spoke to parents in disbelief. >> according to this warrant, the teenage girl said she is

picture is going around this way. and now police are trying to figure out how it is in the hands of teachers. >> it's sad when something goes public. >> saddened to hear of this incident happening again in a school. >> we've seen it go through the local high schools around here. it doesn't seem to quit. >> according to the search warrant, a nude photo at a female student got into the hands of two teachers. the teen told police she took the picture and sent it to her boyfriend, also a student at the school. he told officials he was not the only recipient, but couldn't remember who else got it. the photo came through e-mail from an unknown sender and davidson police are trying to track who sent it. according to the warrant, because the incident took place cyber bullying. >> i think some of that he has kids should be punished to the full extent.

put a stop to it. >> parents have to keep an eye on their children and electronic devices so these mistakes don't happen. >> they turn in their electronics at a certain time every night. it goes in my room where i sleep. so, it's not that i don't trust them. they are just procedures in the house. and i think kids need rules and structures. >> reporter: i reached out to the school today for comment on the situation. they did not respond to my request. reporting live in davidson, elsa gillis, eyewitness news. >> another round of warm weather will push into charlotte just in time for the weekend. chief meteorologist, steve udelson is tracking the temperatures in your neighborhood. steve. >> we're talking about not only warm weather, but more moisture. that's going to start to mean low clouds and fog. no issues just yet, but our future cast suggesting we'll see visibilities drop, especially north of charlotte from lake norman into the mountains. visibilities low enough we'll see patches of fog.

flooding rains we've been dealing with well to our southwest, finally going to make a run at us. future cast to show you how soon that will arrive. >> and before you head out the door to start your weekend, watch eyewitness news saturday morning starting at 6:00 a.m. new tonight, channel 9 learned more about the 27,000 online surveys filled out about online student assignment in charlotte. here's the breakdown of the responses by district. the lowest amount came from district 2. that is southwest about 4,000. by far, the highest amount came from district 6, which covers matthews and more than 12,000. they are followed by district 5. south charlotte, which had 9,000 responses. challenge 9 did uncover some information that was missing. there was nothing about race, ethnicity, or income. we asked tom tate that developed the survey why. >> it's what we decided to do

that people were responding to questions about, and before the board as quickly as possible. >> the results also show people in huntersville, cornelius, davidson, and matthews favor neighborhood schools. new at 11:00, police are looking for the people that robbed two teenagers at gunpoint in uptown charlotte. cmpd says the two thieves cornered them around midnight yesterday as they were walking down east 6th street near time warner cable arena. police say the thieves got away with their phones, their keys, and cash. they have not released descriptions of the suspects. new at 11:00, rock hill police charged a middle school student that brought a bb gun to class. administrators got a tip that a middle school student had the revolver style bb gun in his backpack. he also had cartridges. police charged him with carrying a weapon on school property. tonight, a 21-year-old man is behind bars on a quarter

police say he opened fire on a north carolina highway patrolman's home in alexander county. deputies say two of his neighbors got into a fight and one grabbed a rifle from the other's hands. investigators say that neighbor, ethan young, retrieved a second rifle and fired shots. hitting the patrolman's home. today, we talked to the patrolman's wife. >> i was thankful that we weren't here. overwelmed that it had happened here to my house. grateful no one was hurt. >> young is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and felony discharging a weapon. >> tonight, former first lady, nancy reagan is in her final resting place next to her husband. loved ones and dignitaries said their final good-byes in california this afternoon. >> a crowd of a thousand people were at her funeral service,

staff at billy graham association. miss reagan died sunday at the age of 84. we told you about the special relationship that baron and nancy reagan had over the years. he would send her flowers and letters. the two worked together in the 80s. as the charlotte mecklenburg school board continues their search for the new superintendent, they are keeping people informed of the progress. dedicated to the search, superintendent ann clark's contract is up in june 2017. the page promises to keep people up to date on the board's progress. we posted a link to that website at wsoctv.com. you can find it under latest links. tomorrow, a lot of money is on the line for charlotte. five finalists will be announced in the smart city challenge with a chance at a $40 million grant. each of the cities will get $100,000 to hone their proposal for the final selection process in june. charlotte is up against 76

the cities pitched their best ideas to make transportation safer, easier, and much more reliable. the dot wants to see how cities would increase mobility, and talk about climate change. city leaders say they are confident charlotte has a chance at getting that 40 million and the competition sparked transportation goals here. last month, channel 9 sat down with transportation secretary and former charlotte mayor, anthony fox. he said the city needs to come up with a consensus on a strategy that includes streetcars and new roads as well. the finalists will be announced in june. we have new developments, the former marine who started the wounded warrior project says he is opening to returning and restoring the group's reputation. the group fired two top executives last night after reports of lavish spending. the shakeup happened after former employees claimed the charity wasted millions of

on five star hotels and alcohol. new tonight, there's a new case of the zika virus in forsythe county. that makes a total of six cases in north carolina. health officials say in all of the cases, the patients contracted the virus while traveling. researchers say the risk of a locally transmitted case in the u.s. is minimal. >> tomorrow is the last day to cast your ballot early before tuesday's primary election in north carolina. channel 9 learned thousands of people across north carolina have switched their affiliation. we dug through the numbers and more than 20,000 voters switched parties between the first of the year until february 19. tomorrow, the polls are open from 10:00 until 1:00. democratic candidate, hillary clinton, will be here in charlotte at monday. an event from 5:30 until 8:30 just outside of uptown. all new at 11:00, paris investigators arrested two teenage girls they say were plotting an attack at a concert hall. prosecutors say that

intercepted the plan, ages 15 and 17. they say the plot was in the very early stages. planning stages and that no weapons or any explosives were found. the arrest come four months after the attacks at a concert hall and other locations in paris that left 130 people dead. happening tomorrow, a week after a rash of violence in rock hill that left one dead and several others injured, community leaders planned to march to try to stop the violence. organizers say because i care march is a call to action. it is set to start at 11:00 tomorrow morning. residents will gather at freedom park. >> more than 600 new jobs in lancaster county tonight, after a huge crowd greeted a company founded by a former carolina panthers player. stood with governor nikki hailey to cut the ribbon for movement mortgage. they relocated their

the challe back to that breaking news in chicago. fights between protesters and donald trump supporters forced the candidate to cancel his rally at university of illinois. >> several people started throwing punches, police evacuated the arena right after those clashes. trump told cnn he made the decision because he didn't want anyone to get hurt. he said tonight, proves the country is divided. we'll be monitoring the situation in chicago overnight. watch eyewitness news saturday morning starting at 6:00 a.m. for updates. location. >> tonight marked the first food truck friday. new at 11:00, learned about the challenges organizers faced and dashawn. you'll notice tonight is the scope of this event. in the last hour, the trucks

in the past, as many as a dozen could attend this event, but tonight it was down to five. now the event moved here to sycamore brewing in south end after plans to build an office complex in the old lot. organizers tell me moving here has come with its challenges. issues like parking, bathrooms, and also crowd control. now we saw quite the crowd out here earlier tonight. many of the trucks saw long lines and nearly every seat was filled. one compromise has been for vendors to downsize to fewer trucks and organizers tell me their number one goal is to be a good neighbor in their new home. >> ultimately, i think that what we kind of settled on was maybe not what everybody wanted, but a more intimate event. >> concerned about traffic, about people congregating and that kind of thing. today it hasn't been that big of a problem.

when you have a good spot. and you know, you eat a taco. >> of course, right? now organizers tell me they have been building the schedule here month by month. they really want to see how things worked out, what needs to change before they look too far awhen ahead. channel 9 eyewitness news. >> a string of shootings in charlotte this week comes just before city leaders start talking about how to pay for more police officers. they meet next wednesday to continue going over their budget. now cmpd requested 125 new officers and 80cmpd support staff jobs. that's a nearly $17 million request. now trimming expenses is one way to pay for that. we're told a tax increase could be considered as well. >> new tonight, an ohio judge says some 17-year-olds can vote in ohio's presidential primary on tuesday. the state allows 17-year-olds who will turn 18 before the fall election to participate with some limits.

issues, but can for congressional, legislative, candidates. attorneys for a soldier facing desertion charges says donald trump is damaging their client's chance at a fair trial. in several of trump's campaign speeches, he has called for punishing sergeant bowe bergdahl who is accused of walking away from his post in afghanistan before being captured by the taliban. bergdahl's attorney says some of what trump is saying isn't true. channel 9 is asking police if they have any suspects in a vandalism case at a lake wiley elementary. this happened sometime thursday night at the school on erwin road. an assistant principal called police after finding all that damage. it is believed the suspect got into a mobile classroom through an unlocked door that caused $1,000 in damage. tonight, the louisiana governor is calling on the

to this historic flooding. governor john bell edwards toured the damage today. the state is one of six around the south dealing with torrential downpours. flooding is to blame for at least five deaths there. now steve udelson is tracking weather. thankfully, it's calming down, but it will get here. >> it will get here eventually, but we're not going to see anything like these rain totals. a season's worth of rain in three days. a foot and a half over mississippi, arkansas, western tennessee. that's unbelievable. the charlotte area, again, just some clouds right now. no big deal. temperatures unusually mild. and we're going to stay mild overnight tonight. we'll bottom out at low 60s. 50s on the map will be across the high country. weekend forecast hasn't changed. still more clouds than sun as we head through tomorrow. rain chances remain slim east of the mountains. lower 70s tomorrow. maybe mid 70s if we can squeeze out sun.

like we'll finally start to see some of that rain from the west. lots of 5k's going on tomorrow. a pick to choose from. here's one. the u.s. national white water center. the 5k. it starts at 10:00. 60s. a lot of low clouds left over, sky. not a bad start to the weekend. we'll get sunshine and the afternoon. for about i-85 north, we'll start to see a few scattered showers late in the day. nothing terribly heavy. nothing to cancel any plans over, but we will warm up. again, depending on how much sun, we could easily see mid to upper 70s. and lower 60s into the mountains. 49ers, uncc charlotte playing some baseball both tomorrow and on sunday. talk about temperatures looking in the upper 60s tomorrow. to the lower 70s by 5:00.

skiing up in the mountains and also some baseball going on with temperatures in the lower 60s on saturday. sunday's game might have some troubles with rain fall around the start of the game. here's your future cast showing basically dry conditions through this time on saturday night. but here comes the rain on sunday. focused on the afternoon hours in and around the charlotte area. not talking about a ton of rain fall, any little bit will help. wash some of that pollen out. we're talking about tree pollen in the high range. if you have allergies, you'll know. half an inch of rain in the metro. that should be enough to offer temporary relief. as far as cold air, i don't see it. we'll see temperatures back to 80 or so by tuesday. finally looks like by the enof next weekend, we're back to average, which means a high of 60, which you know, not so bad. >> i feel like we snapped our fingers and the temperatures went up. >> that's the carolinas. >> it will come back down eventually. >> family devastated after

family and we, me and my daughter, sincerely apologize and we both hated that this happened to her. >> ramiro claims the assault charge and a prior one are the result of her fighting back after being bullied. a group to fight crime will call on local young people to take action against violence. the million youth march is hosting an event tomorrow in north charlotte. the group wants to have an open discussion with teenagers about how to curb crime. tomorrow's event is from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m.

north trion st if things were right, the hornets could head into the weekend within a half game of fourth place. that would mean hosting a first round playoff series. first, they had to take care of the pistons. a hot street. four straight, 30 plus point games, but they didn't need another performance tonight. he was off, in fact, just 3 of 11 from the floor. he was lethal. five three pointers, ties a career high. 22. late first quarter, al jefferson working down low. spins and hits, 12 points from big al. it's not like kendall had a bad game watching him slice through the defense into the lane for the bucket.
