yeah. matt: so you understand this is a dangerous situation? dean: i'll tell you what. there's some cops just over there. how about we take it over together. matt: (menacingly) i tell youhat, give me that bag and i won't arrest both of you here and now. i don't believe i caught your name, officer. clark: (holding out the bag) hey! hey! stop! just take it! take it! take it! just take it! that guy's not right. yeah, i know. yeah, we just let him walk offwith a bag of guns. no, i didn't. no, i put my cell phone in the bag. winnie: boss, i got dean on the line. he says it's urgent. parker: all right, put him through, winnie. dean: dad... we're in the middle of a call here, son. are you all right? (sighs) yeah, we're fine. ed: dean, is clark with you? dean: yeah, we're both fine. it's just... we have some information about the shooting this morning. what about it? we saw a guy running away from the apartment and we saw him stash a bag in the alley after you guys went in. you saw all this from the truck? dean: uh, no. see, that's the thing. we got outta the truck. we wanted to see what was going on.
1:41 am
parker: i specifically told you to stay inside that truck. dean: okay, just listen and then you can freak out, okay? clark put you up to this? dean: we both did it. just please let me explain. we came back to see if the bag was iortant and that's when we found out it was full of... well, it's full of guns. guns? dean: with their serial numbers filed off. gotta be from gearing's crew. leah: cam must be the guy they saw pulling the guns out during the raid. okay, dean, you do not touch those guns, you understand? that's the thing, we don't have them anymore. a cop came and took them. what cop? dean: didn't get his name off his badge. he's about 6'1", brown hair, gray suit, white shirt about 50 years old. spike: that's matt. sam: only one reason you'd need a bag of untraceable guns. he's going after gearing. dean: uh, dad... parker: winnie, put out an apb on gearing all known locations. dean: dad... parker: associates, friends, family. he's in grave danger. we neeto bring him in. winnie: copy. dean: dad, can you listen to me? oh, son, i've been listening to you. now, let me get this straight: you disobeyed me; you moved into a live battle zone; you withheld key information during an active investigation, and then you exposed yourself further to danger by returning to the scene of the crime.
1:42 am
dean: yeah, we put a cell phone in the bag. ed: you what? dean: we didn't trust the cop, so clark planted his cell on him so you could track it. i'm on it! dad? parker: do not think you're off the hook. i want you and clark to stay where you are. we're sending jules to you. dean: okay. ed: do not move! are we clear? yeah. jules: i'll be right there, boss. i just need a sec with jake first. (phone beeps off) (relieved sigh) piece of cake. (snorts) (sighs) marcy's dead. (emotional breaths) i know. i'm sorry, jake. listen, we're gonna need your help. matt's missing. what? when he saw marcy shot, he took off. we think he went after gearing. now, listen, i can either hand you over to siu, or you can come with me and you can lp us stop your sergeant
1:43 am
it's up to you, jake. let's go. okay, let's go. (sirens wail) (beeping) spike: got him. he's moving east on lakeshore. jules: right behind you, spike. spike: he's continuing on lakeshore. make a right on jarvis. jules, does that ring any bells with jake? jules: distillery district. gearing have any ties there? koolhaus night club. it's part of his laundering operation. did you guys get that? parker: yeah. we copy, jules. jake: this is crazy... when i joined the force, matt was everything i wanted to be in a cop. tell me about that. he was smart, brave. he cared about the work, cared about the people. so what happened? few years ago, gearing and his crew move into the neighbourhood, start pushing all the other dealers out. full on turf war.
1:44 am
one day, out on patrol, shots-fired call comes in. middle of the day... matt's first on the scene. two victims, 10-54. no need for ems. first one was fifteen. the other was twelve - twelve years old. just kids. jake: that's how gearing won the war; using child soldiers. we're taking him down, jake. he's done. jake: after that, matt put together a task force. me, ted, cam. we spent months investigating gearing. stakeouts, surveillance, undercover... we poured everything that we had into it. thousands of man hours. cracked his distribution chains, infiltrated his laundering operation, and the day we arrested him - that was my proudest moment on the force. when the case went to court,
1:45 am
half our evidence got thrown out on technicalities. some witnesses recanted, others didn't even show up at all. gearing made our whole task force look like a joke. the only thing that stuck was an unlicensed weapon charge. six months probation. jules: so you changed tactics. jake: matt formed a new task force - off the books. if we couldn't get him in the courts, we were gonna get him in the streets. whenever we heard of a stash house, we wouldn't wait for a warrant - we'd crush it. we take their guns, we destroy their product. zero tolerance. and it was working. jules: did you ever use violence? we thought about it... about cutting e head off the snake, ending it once and for all, but matt said no. greg, he's a good man.

i know you... (shot cracks) aghhh! (bottles shatters as shots fire) (gunshots) dylan, you okay? stay there! boss, spike, with me. sam, leah, main floor. let's move now! we've got a couple of kids here. they're tied up. we'll come back for them. let's move! greg... parker: you all right, son? you okay? hey, it's dylan, right? all right, you hang tough. i couldn't do it. couldn't do what, son? the sergeant... i didn't shoot him. i... i couldn't do it.
1:53 am
stay here. (gunshots pop) (glass shatters) agh! (gunshot pops, glass shatters) agh! up on your knees! sergeant, right there! put the gun down! put it down now! we've got the subject on the lower level. put it down now! sir... clark, what you said earlier, about your dad killing that girl... he had to do it. it was the right thing.
1:54 am
when we were in the lane, talking to that sergeant, he was messed up, you could see it. he was just so lost. that's why your dad followed the law; he knows what happens when you don't. he knows what you become. he is so torn up, dean. what your dad had to do was terrible, but he made the right call. parker: what're you doing, matt? walk away, greg. let me do this. i can't. no one's gonna miss him. no one's gonna mourn him. parker: i know... he puts guns in the hands of children... and sends them out to kill other children, women... i know that. and we play by the rules, we fight fair... why? huh, greg? why does this monster deserve your protection? do i need to answer that? we're not here to protect him, matt. we're here to protect you. no.
1:55 am
doesn't make any difference. parker: doesn't make a difference? excuse me?! the kid upstairs says otherwise. dylan was supposed to kill you, but he didn't. because when it came down to it, he knows good from bad. and you know how? because you took the time to get to know him. you took the time to be a part of his world. you did what a good cop does. you cared... you care. he knows the difference between you and this murderer. you gonna prove him wrong? don't prove him wrong, come on... come on.
1:56 am
1:57 am
we wouldt have come in time. it's a pretty smart move. it's pretty brave. and what, that makes up for it? no. sometimes dean drives me crazy, won't listen to a word i say, and other times he does something that makes me so proud i think my heart's gonna... just burst. thing is that, more and more, both happen at the same time. (clark sighs) clark's a great kid. he's got a lot of you in there. (exhales) what do we do? i know. how bad do you think this is gonna be? i don't know. let's just get it over with. (bracing groan) you know, if you wanna be a cop, you gotta learn to follow the rules. yeah, we get it.

you want me to pick up anything on the way home? sure. red or white? (laughs) something "full-bodied and juicy." honey, i still have my freud textbooks from med school, don't make me use 'em. right now? radio stream: shooting took place on the center island ferry just over an hour ago. sru were on scene and the special investigations unit confirms there has been a civilian fatality. dr. bell: (clicking it off) i don't know. well, no, i couldn't tell you even if he was. that-that's not gonna work. you make a great dinner every night. you can't bribe me that y. (knock at the door) i will. i love you too. (phone beeps off) (confused) ed! hey! did we... i didn't forget a session, did i? no, no. i just wanted to drop off the books and the journal and stuff you lent me. are you done with them? actually, i'm done with the sessions and the therapy. i just wanted to let you know. okay. can you come in for a sec? yeah. can you shut the door?
2:01 am
look, i know you're busy, so... no, it's fine. i just need through a few things to wrap up our work. do you have a sec? yeah. okay, and you started coming here, when was that? two months - two months, one week, five days. that's right. (laughs) you wanted to talk about some specific issues around a case, "may dalton." shame, we never got around to talking about that. oh, that's okay. look, you have been great. you've given me a lot of stuff to think about, and i just wanted to say thanks. i appreciate that. i'm wondering, though, why you feel like you're done with therapy? uh... no offense, it's just not for me. so i'm not that great, huh? i didn't say that. you kinda just did. but - can i ask, we didn't have a session booked till next week - why didn't just drop the stuff off then? ed: no, i just, i... i hate when people borrow stuff and don't return 'em, so... this wouldn't have anything to do with today, would it? cent island ferry? i can't talk about that.
2:02 am
you know that - if you want to. whatever happened today, it's got nothing to do with that, it's not why i'm done. okay. look, you've already paid for this week's session. and i like you, ed, but i'm still gonna charge you for it. you're here anyway, why don't you just tell me about your day. you sure there's, uh, no place you have to be? i'm right where i need to be. okay. the day started normal. up early, out early. just the way i like it. (alarm clock blares) don't you look nice... dr. bell: how's the family? sophie, isabelle... ed: good. dr. bell how about clark? cutie... just you had mentioned you guys were having some issues communicating. no, he's good. we're all good. we're all good. work was- "good?" (laughs) it was.
2:03 am
all right, now, i love today. do you know why i love today? spike: whatever it is, i'm guessing it means why we won't love today. that's right! today is drill day - races, weights, punishing physical activity. what's not to love? (laughs) wow and they haven't found a way to accidentally shoot you yet? (laughs) well, there's a reason why wee the best team in the city. trust me, they love it. anyway, it didn't matter. (klaxon blares) winnie: hot call, team one. 911 call, firearms involved. spike: saved by the winnie! winnie: multiple callers report single white male... ed: white male, 30's, downtown area, had a duffel bag and firearm. you hear yourself, right? you talk to me like i'm your sergeant, or the special investigations unit. i don't need an official report. just try telling me like uh... i'm a friend, or another cop. but you're not a cop. i mean, i'm sorry, but you're not. no. i'm not. but i know a bit about the job. really. well, ho just try...telling me the story
2:04 am
we were unsure where the subject was in the downtown area. (sirens wail tires squeal) ed: spike, traffic cams? spike: sending you what we've got so far. looks like he's heading south on bathurst, past lakeshore. (tablet beeps) looks bigger than a sidearm to me. could be a saw-off shotgun. he's carrying it out in public? ed: and whatever's in that bag. guys, what do we got down there - parks, construction yards, what? harbourfront. ed: okay, team, harbourfront. no light no sirens; let's not spook our subject. spike, look for him on harbourfront cctv footage. parker: guy's carrying a weapon in plain view. we might be looking at heightened emotion, and desire to provoke confrontation. spike: guys... (tablet beeps) he's getting on the center island ferry. his weapon's concealed. ed: we can't let that boat get out on open water. spike: no, the footage is from four minutes ago. the boat's already left. he starts shooting, it's fish in a barrel. we'll have no way to stop him. sam: we get a marine cruiser, we can board from the port side emgency ladder. jules: then you lose the element of surprise. we could call the boat back to the terminal, and rush it when it docks? ed: there's too many people, it's uncontrolled. we don't know what's in that bag;
2:05 am
isn't there another old marine terminal, down below lakeshore? they still got a dock, totally abandoned. we'd have complete control. good thinking, leah. all right, eddie, you get eyes in on the boat, i'll co-ordinate with theort authority. port authority: we'll announce an emergency evacuation. parker: no, no. don't make it sound like an emergency. just have the captain announce that they have to make a last minute stop and they'll be on their way soon. dr. bell: that must be hard... rushing to a scene, not knowing what you're about to face. i'd find that hard. scary, even. well, you hope for the best, plan for the worst. (ferry horn bellows) ferry captain: (over speakers we are docking temporarily to address a minor repair. thank you for your patience. sam: good visual on the ferry. ed: no joy on the subject. parker: eddie, we're holding off on the gangplank - no one on or off until we know what we're dealing with. ferry captain: i repeat: we are docking temporarily to address a minor repair. thank you for your patience. he must be inside. ed: okay, hold on. we got a middle-aged man here, he's carrying a duffel bag.
