7:12 am
with no makeup, their regular makeup, or bye bye foundation and it cosmetics. we had 27 women co into our office between the ages of 21 and 69. we told these women to wear your own makeup, make it like you're going out on a saturday night, look as best as you can. they came into our office and we took photographs of these women. so this is a patient who comes in wearing her own makeup. we have her take her makeup off and then we take a picture of her with no makeup. and then we take a picture of her with it cosmetics makeup. we asked over 300 reviewers, "how old do you think these women are?" it was surprising to find that when they wore their own makeup, they actually registered at 1.3 years older than their real age. and when they wore the it cosmetics brand, they looked almost 2.5 years younger. and patients in their 40s, 40s and above, when they were wearing it cosmetics makeup, they actually look five years younger than they did with their own makeup or with no makeup at all. so wearing makeup, and if you add it cosmetics, chances are you're gonna look younger than your real age. i definitely have gotten a lot of compliments
7:13 am
and people think i'm at least five years younger than i am, which is awesome and i'll totally take it. i'm 38 years old and i have people saying, "you look so good," and asking what do i--you know, "what are you doing with your skin? did you get stuff done to it?" and i'm like, o, i'm just--it cosmetics." i'm confident again, i feel beautiful again, and i feel young. people look at me and they say, "wow, you look really good." i don't tell them my age, but when they guess, it's never 50. (female rrator) discover it. love it. believe it. (applause, cering) i am so inspired by your story and i thinyou should share it with everyone. all right, well, the easiest way to share it is really just to show you. so i'm just gonna take a makeup remover wipe and take my bye bye fouation off. i'm sorry, i can't believe this is happening right now. we're all real gals, right? we all have issues, but, you know, at you would probably never know--
7:14 am
it looks like i have great skin, right? oh, my gosh. i have hereditary rosacea and i have hyperpigmentation, so, ali, i really believe that, you know, i have gone through all these skin issues to devote my life to creating a solution to them. so i worked with plastic surgeons and dermatologists to create something i believe is an entirely new category, and this is it. we developed bye bye foundation. it's literally in one step you have coverage and you're done. it's as easy as putting on a moisturizer. -i can do that. -right? i think i can handle that. and, look, it's so light, it feels like nothing, and when you smooth it on your skin, i'm not even using a mirror, i'm just smoothing it on, and you're getting your anti-aging skincare, you're getting that full coverage, right? especially if you need it, you're getting the 3d skin flex technology, so it's never gonna crease or crack. and you're getting your spf, it's so simple. it's like if you apply your moisturizer, it's that easy and it's done.
7:15 am
oh, my gosh, ladies, look at her. (applause, cheering) (jamie) it's easy. (alison) i can't believe just how great-- you can't do that with makeup. yeah, well, it's not makeup, that's the thing, it's a full coverage anti-aging moisturizer. it's a product that just does the wk for you and then it gives you your most beautiful skin. bye bye foundation has really been my holy grail. ever since i started using it, it has changed my skincare routine, my makeup routine. it'such an amazing product, amazing. bye bye foundation is mfavorite because it's silky on my skin, it feels like nutrients going on, and it's covering my hyperpigmentation and sunspots, which i love. i couldn't find anything that would cover like full coverage but feel light. bye bye foundation doesn't have that heaviness and that thickness, and it doesn't settle in the cracks and creases. it moves with your skin. let me sw you how bye bye foundation compares to typical foundations. so i'm using an orange because it's similar to your skin with dimples like pores.
7:16 am
they're representing different skin issues we have. so these blue dots right here, they show dark shadows that we can get around our eyes or any veins that you wanna cover. now let's say you have broken red capillaries or redness or rosacea the way i do. these red dots, they represent that. these brown dots will represent dark spots or hyperpigmentation. and here's what happens with other products you might use on your skin. first, i'm going to apply a popular bb cream. so you can see as i start to apply, i'm getting a little bit of coverage, but those spots are coming through, and as it ends up, it's really not covering much. and here's a very expensive high end foundation. it costs more than our entire kit. and you can see as i start to apply, still those spots are coming through. but now bye bye foundation is gonna cover it instantly. watch this. i'm applying the exact same amount.
7:17 am
and bye bye foundation instantly covers. it's like, "bye bye, spots altogether." and look at the pores of the orange with bye bye foundation. they look so much smaller, almost like they've disappeared. so "bye bye, imperfections," and, "hello flawless looking skin." (female #1) i am the editor in chief of new york city's hottest beauty and fashion magazine, bella new york city. we try hundreds of products because we really want to tell our readers, like, what the best is in the marketplace. and the only brand that has ever made it onto the bella beauty award list every single issue has been it cosmetics. i've never, in the history of bella magazine or any of my work in beauty, have i ever found a productthat works as well. now it's time to say "bye bye" to heavy foundation, "bye bye" to morning skincare, "bye bye" to your daily sunscreen, and "bye bye" to dry skin, the look of blemishes, scars, dark spots, birth marks, and redness.

7:20 am
but really i am hiding a few blemishes that just no one knows 'cause it looks so good. a friend i see all the time actually complimented me on my skin, like, "wow, your skin looks great." and i just thought, "it's what they said would happen," and it actually did. there's nothing out there that i have found that has given me what it cosmetics has. and that is for people not to tell me, "i love your makeup," but, "i love your skin." we spoke recently with dr. elizabeth callahan, a board certified dermatologic surgeon consistently ranked one of the top dermatologists in the nation. with bye bye foundation, not only are you getting a full coverage product, but you're actually using something that's gonna improve the tone and texture of your skin. the ingredients in bye bye foundation are quite significant. they help reduce pore size, the appearance of fine lines, and the discolorations that we see in skin, brown spots and red spots. it's a true protective physical based sunscreen, spf 50. and those, in my opinion, are the best forms of sunscreens.
7:21 am
as a surgeon, bye bye foundation is the first product i'vever found that is truly a one step product. and when you apply this product, your skin looks lifted, it's luminous, it's fresh. this product is absolutelincredible. ... announcer helland welcome to through the bible with les feldick. an oklahoma rancher and farmer, les feldick has been teaching home-style bible classes for over twenty years in iowa, oklahoma and texas. les feldick's unique style of bible teaching has made the books of the bible come to life. when les is teaching, it's so interesting that people say, 'time just seems to fly by.' and now here is les feldick.es feldick okay, there we are. good to have everybody again anthe last couple half-hours we just started right out without any announcements, so i guess we'd better let our television audience understand that all the past programs are available
7:30 am
have been transcribed into little books as you see on the screen and my little wife, iris, just reminded me for those of you who ask so often for the timeline, we have a simplified timeline in the front of every one of our little books. so, for folks who have already ordered the books and you want a timeline, just check it out in the front of the little books. secondly, we of course, send out a newsletter quarterly, but we can't send them out if we don't have your name and address, so if you've never contributed or written us a line, and you would like to get our quarterly newsletter free of charge, you call us and give us your name and address or drop us a note. and i think that's all the announcements, we're not here to sell anything, we just simply want to spend every moment that we can in the word. all right, now before we actually start ephesians, i have one more segment of this unfolding of the church epistles of paul and that is the i and ii thessalonian letters. now again, remember we came through paul's original
7:31 am
of especially asia minor and greece and corinth and the letter to the romans, the letters to the corinthians, the letter to the galatians and then we saw that beginning with acts 28:28 from his time in prison, he writes what we call the prison letters, or the prison epistles of ephesian, philippians and colossians, which are just a jump up doctrinally, in depth and understanding from what you have back here. then as we finisd those three letters, then we come to the earlier letters that were written, but they're really final in their content and those are the i and ii thessalonians, which can now follow the format of doctrine, reproof, correction and now we go to instruction in righteousness and again, it's up to a higher plane even than what we have in the prison epistles because
7:32 am
where does the word take us? up to glory! up to glory, see the i thessalonians chapter 4, 'we shall be caught up to meet him in the air and so shall we ever be with the lord.' ii thessalonians chapter 2 and after the departure of the church, 'then shall that wicked one be revealed.' and so those two letters take us on up to that which we are all waiting for and that is the fruition of everything, when we'll finally be in glory with our crucified, resurrected and ascended lord. all right, so much for that, now let's get right into the meat then of ephesians chapter 1 and we'lbegin with verse 1. "paul an apostle of jesus christ by (what?) the will of god." see? paul didn't just all of sudden one day
7:33 am
become an apostle. i like thway people look up to peter, james and john. i just think i'll become an apostle. no, that's not the way it was. you want to remember, he was the one who hated jesus of nazareth. he hated anything associated with the christ of calvary. and he thought that he was destroying his pet religion, judaism. but god in grace, saved him on the road to damascus and immediately gave instructions that this man would be going to the gentiles and with a whole new format. not based on judaism. not based on the law. not based on the old testament, but on a whole new revelation of new truths that had never been mooted before. and sent him out amongst those pagan
7:34 am
were with us on our mediterranean cruise last spring, trying to follow as much as we could in the steps of the apostle paul and how the poor man was constantly confronted with the abject immorality of his day. unbelievable. and yet out of that wickedness and out of that gross pagan immorality, the man turned the roman empire upside-down. by simply preaching the gospel. he wasn't a crusader. he wasn't a great politician. he wasn't a great moralist. but, he preached the gospel of the grace of god. now then, as he ends up in prison because of his apostleship, he's going to be writing these next three letters. so he's an apostle, not of his own volition, but by the will
7:35 am
apostle is writing this particular letter to the, what's the next word? "the saints." and how many times, haven't you heard me say over all the years that you've been hearg me teach, to whom does paul always write? the believer, see? the christian. he doesn't write to the unsaved world. not that he didn't have a heart for them, but paul knew, which too many people today do not understand, you do not just simply win the lost by screaming at them and preaching at them. you win the lost by discipling the believer. and when the believer is discipled and can go out there amongst an ungodly world and reflect the righteousness of christ, he's going to have an impact on lost people. and then they're going to say, 'hey, what must i do to have what you've got?' and there's you opportunity. oh, you
7:36 am
for you. you believe with all your heart that he rose from the dead. and you will be saved, the bible promises it. now i have to be careful because i have someone else to write the other day, 'well les, what do you mean when you say, 'only believe?'' well, i' don't mean just a superficial mental ascent to these things, i mean that when you honestly with all your being say, i believe this, with all my heart, without a doubt. i believe from cover to cover, but i believe especially that when christ died, he died for me. and i believe that when he rose from the dead, he rose to give me that same resurrection power. and that of course, is what we call faith. and it's by that and that alone, of course, that we enter in then to this relationship that paul is always expounding. so he writes "to the saints. and to those who are faithful," now then those last three
7:37 am
to the whole letter, "in christ jesus." now those of you who remember your eighth and ninth grade grammar, what kind of a phrase is that? it's a prepositional phrase. yeah, thank you! a prepositional phrase. now i think there are 93 or 96, i don't remember exactly, i counted them more than once, but there are 90 some prepositional phrases in this six chapters that always denote our position 'in christ'; 'in whom'; 'in him.' in this or in that, the whole six chapters are constantly driving that home that we are now in a peculiar position as believers. now you see, back here in romans the whole idea of the letter of romans was to show that we were nothing but hell-bound
7:38 am
everyone of us. whether we actually did any of the things that were listed or whether we didn't, potentially we were all capable of going to the very depths of sin. that's what romans shows us and then the remedy for it, the gospel, that christ has already forgiven us. he's already died for us. his blood has already paid the payment and all we have to do to appropriate it is what? believe it. that's the book of romans. oh, it's so doctrinal, it's so basic. see? and then in corinthians, oh all of the problems that had to be reproved. and then the galatians going back into legalism and how that had to be corrected. but, oh, here in this little book of ephesians we're not going to deal with any of those things. here we're going to deal with hammering home the fact that you are now 'positioned in christ' in
7:39 am
roots of that position we're going to see it in verse 3 and where are we now positioned? "in the heavenlies." see? we're not an earthly people. we're a heavenly people. but we're on the earth. but, everything that we constantly think about, everything that makes up our whole being, even as we live and work and move in this old sin-cursed world is what? our position in the heavenliesthat should be uppermost in our thinking. all right, so let's go back, i don't want to skip a verse. verse 2, so now he says to those believers in the area of ephesus and of course the letter probably went out to the other cities in that area of the world, i'm sure it got to colossi; it probably got up to troas and it may have even gone inland as far as antioch and derby but as winnie and
7:40 am
break-time, isn't it amazing that as these various letters of paul went out to these various congregations, back there in the ancient world, wher there was no copy machines and there was no instant communication, that they didn't get lost. somebody was providentially aware that hey, these letters are important, we'd better protect em. some how or other they were kept intact for 300 and some years, before the church fathers put them together and put them into what we call the scripture. now that in itself is miraculous. these were just simple letters that were sent out to a congregation and like i said, they didn't have copy machines and say, well, let's run off ten copies and send one here, there and everywhere. no. they only had the one copy and i doubt if they took the trouble to laboriously hand write each one of these for a church, but this letter
7:41 am
circled amongst all the churches in the area around ephesus. and yet it never got lost. amazing! winnie, i'm glad you brought it up because this is little tidbits that too often we forget that makes this book the supernatural book that it is. all right, now then, "grace be to you and peace from god our father and from the lord jesus christ." and now verse 3, "blessed be the god and father of our lord jesus chri who hath (past tense, it's already done).who hath blessed us with all (not material blessings, oh not a cadillac in everybody's garage, not a seven bed room home for everybody, but where are we already blessed?) in the heavenlies." spiritual blessings! spiritual. now you want to remember, all our earthly blessings,
7:42 am
are they going to last? oh, if we're fortunate we might get past 90. few people, i've had a couple in my class, 102. but most of us are going to come to the end of the road somewhere after 70 or 80 and so on and so forth, assuming now that the lord doesn't come and we trust he will. but, nevertheless, these material blessings are for just such a little while. how did the psalmist put it? a blade of grass that shots up in the morning, in the afternoon it's withered and gone. a vapor. now you people down here don't see it as often as they did up north, but boy you get a 30 below zero morning up north and every breath just becomes a cloud of vapor. but how long does it last? puff. and it's gone. all right, that's what the bible compares life to. like a vapor that is here one second and gone the next. but these spiritual blessings, how long with they last? all eternity! forever. forever. and you know, i've said it on this
7:43 am
world scoffs and they think we're a bunch of nuts and they think that we have to give up all the good times. and we have to shun these things, and oh we are just almost living a life of sacrifice. oh! that's not the case at all. we don't even have an appetite for those things. you know like i told one fellow one night, he said, 'why don't i ever see you in this particular saloon on saturday night?' and i said, 'look, for the same reason i don't see you in church on sunday morning.' (laughter) i said, 'i'd be just as miserable in your saloon on saturday night as you would be in church on sunday morning.' and that says it all. doesn't it? i mean that is no longer our appetite. our appetite is now on things spiritual because the lord has given us enough insight that these things are going to last forever. forever. not just for 70 years. in fact, it won't be that long; all you have to do is watch
7:44 am
and some of your wealthy athletes. how long can they enjoy the 'fast-lane'? now very long. the body can't take it and there they are. they reach 50 and they're old and their health is shot and what for? whereas you and i, oh we may shun those things, not because we're missing them, but the world thinks we are, but we're not. but then the end result is our heavenly position comes to the fore. spiritual blessings, "in the heavenlies." and how are we seated in the heavenlies? "in christ." see? our position in christ. now of course, i have to take you back to i corinthians chapter 12, where paul of course is, back here in the area of the rudiments, the elementaries. but nevertheless, it's still all part of our christian
7:45 am
chapter 12 starting at verse 12. i corinthians 12 verse 12, "for as the body, (the human body) is one and it has many members." it has many members." hands, fingers, feet toes, ears, eyes those are all members of this one body. "and all the members of that one body being many they're still (what?) one body. so also, is christ." in other words, he's made up of all of these believers at have come into the body of christ ever since the beginning of the church age and here we are. in christ. how did we get there? verse 13, "for by one spirit (capitalized, the holy spirit).so by the
7:46 am
(what's the next word?) all." not just a few of the most spiritual. not just the clergy. not just a few priests. but every believer, ".all have bn baptized." now i always have to stop and identify, what does the word baptized really mean? to be inundated. to be completely inundated. homer or plato, i don't remember which one, but one of the greece classical writers, spoke of a ship being baptized at sea. well if a ship gets baptized at sea, and that was before submarines of course, what happened to it? was sunk! it went down. but it was baptized. why? bause that ocean water filled every little crook and cranny of that ship as it went down. and that's what a baptism does. it just simply inundates
7:47 am
isn't water. this ishe invisible person of the godhead, the holy spirit. and he hasnundated us, "in christ." that's how we get there. and how does th holy spirit, or when does the holy spirit inundate us? the moment we believe the gospel. you don't feel a thing. i mean you're not going shake your head and get the water out of your eyes. you're not going to sehow say, oh, something that happened to me. no. it's a silent unfeeling work of the holy spirit and how do i know it happened? by faith. by faith. see now again, you come back to all these writings of paul, i should have put on it. every one of these coming up through doctrine, reproof, correction, doctrine, reproof, correction, every one of them was based on paul's premise of faith
7:48 am
reproved because they had lost sight of what god had instructed. in other words, they had gotten blinded by a lack of faith. and the same way going back into legalism. why were they leing paul's doctrine of faith plus nothing? because their faith grew weak. and you come on up into the ephesian letters, it's the same way. how are we going to imagine, how are we going to even come close to the comprehension that we are already seated in the heavenlies? by faith, see? by faith. i can sit on that tractor on a 110 degree day and i don't feel like i'm in heaven. (laughter) like someone said the other day, i bet you almost think you're in the other direction! (vaughter) well, it's true. but yet i can sit there in that 110
7:49 am
reflect on this and by faith, where do i know i really am? in the heavenlies. see? in the heavenlies. th's what faith does. all right, now then, "we are all baptized into one body." not a body of jews and a body of gentiles, it's one body. now this is what we're going to see really come to a fruition when we get on a little further into the book of ephesians. this is one of the great parts of the mystery, now revealed to the apostle paul in this particular letter is that the jew loses his identity when he comes into the body of christ. you know, i think i've shared in this program, the lady going to hear it when she watches the program. the very first time i went up to minnesota for one of those all day seminars, the very first break time, mid-forenoon. she came up and she said, now les, i'm a jew but i'm a believer. if the lord
7:50 am
jew, will i be left behind and all the rest of you gentiles go in the rapture? and i said, heavens no! no. if you're a believer whether you're a jew or whatever, and you're in the body of christ, we'll all go. oh, she was so relieved. and every time we go back up, we rehearse that again, see, of what comfort it gave her that just because she's a jew that doesn't make her any different in the body of christ. we're all one. and we're going to see that more definitively as we move into this book of ephesians. but, "whether we be jew or gentiles (still in i corinthians 12 verse 13).so whether we be jews or gentiles, whether we be bond or free (and then i always even take it nationalistically, whether we're black or white, whether we're red or yellow, makes no difference) we are all one" when we come into the body of christ. and i was sharing with somebody the
7:51 am
get a chance because we love it when people invite us into their home. i'd much rather do that than stay in old dead motel someplace, but every home we go, i mean it's an exciting experience. we sit down at that dinner table and i don't have to press the subject, they do. and what do you suppose we talk about? the book! the lord. and there's never any feeling, oh i wish we could get these people to talk about the lord. it just comes. why? because we're members of the body. and then on occasion, we may be in a home where it isn't that way, and you can just almost sense that they do not have that love for the word, that all these others have. you can tell it right away. if it's a strain to talk about the things of god. if it's a strain to talk about scripture, then you know there's something lacking. but that's not very often the case. all right, so 'whether we're jew or gentile, black or
7:52 am
or free, we have been all', see? every last believer has been "made to drink (or partake) of that one spirit." the one holy spirit. and then he goes on throughout the rest of that chapter drawing the analogies and making it as plain as can possible be made. all right, so if you'll come back then to ephesians chapter 1 verse 3 again, "and so he hath blessed us with spiritual blessings." now you see there's not a word in here about material blessings. now we hear a lot the last twenty years about 'name it and claim it,' people call it. but listen paul never mentions that. paul never tells us that if we are a believer whether we're carnal, whether we're spiritual, that we're going to be blessed with millions. never. all paul is concerned about is - do you realize how rich you
7:53 am
we're rich or poor that's beside the point. we're l one in christ. and this is what people haveo understand, god isn't promising you and i that we're going to become millionaires. far from it. many of us are probably going to go all the way through life with just the very necessities. but, what have we all got? these spiritual blessings, see? in christ. okay, now verse 4, "according as he (i think we're speaking of christ, himself).according as he has chosen us (here's thatrepositional phrase again, where) in himself, he has chosen us in him (when?) before anything was every created." now that's mind-boggling. and i know
7:54 am
of people. and you have some that take it clear off into the boondocks in a false teaching, that god has already determined who's going to be saved and who's going to be lost. and there's nothing you can do about it. there's no use trying to evangelize because if god hasn't foreordained them they don't stand a chance. no, that's not what it means. now we know that god knew from eternity past that we would believe, but that does not excuse us from taking the gospel to the ends of the earth as to make everyone aware of their opportunity for salvation. in other words, remember when we were teaching romans chapter 9. my i think it's one of the toughest chapters in scripture, but i think we made a fairly good dent in it. and if you remember, how i taught it that here over on the right hand we have the 'whosoever will'. whosoever will may come. but over here on this side, we have this verse that
7:55 am
before the foundation of the world.' all right, now humanly speaking, can you understand that? now don't nod your head yes, because then i'll say, boy i don't know. because i can't. and i don't think you can. it is impossible for a human being to understand that over here we have the whosoever will may come and over here we have chosen before the foundation of the world. the two are counter to the other. but, is it a problem for god? no. and that's where i leave it. leave it in god's hands. the best i can to is bring the two to the middle. yes, here we've got the whosoever will. here we have the chosen from before the foundation of the world, and i bring them to a place where yes, just as soon as you respond to the whosoever will, and you come to that invitation, the lord jesus shouts throughout all of heaven, i chose him before the
7:56 am
see? and that's the best why i can explain it. but to understand it, no. i've just got to leave it in the hands of god because this is what the word says. whosoever will may come. chosen from before the foundation of the world. and just revel in that. that yes, you exercised your free will when you responded to the gospel, but on the other hand, god can honestly say, i chose you before anything was ever created. glorious thought isn't it? announcer thank you for watching through the ble with les feldick, a weekly bible study. if you would like more information about the les feldick ministries, a bible study in your area, or about this program, write to: les feldick

8:08 am
do they drop the seeds in a circle? >> [laughs] no. there's another way new redwood trees start growing. they sprout up from the roots of where an old tree once stood. >> did we kick the flames out of that forest fire or what? whoo-hoo! >> um, ranger rita says the smoke we saw--heh heh-- was actually fog. >> fog? >> [laughs] yes. but the water you dumped won't go to waste. these redwoods drink eight bathtubs of water a day. >> wow! they're thirsty. >> yes, indeed. they absorb a lot of that water from the fog. >> so we didn't put out a forest fire. >> and we came all this way to make a giant hammock without bringing any rope? >> you need rope? i've got some in the truck. >> really? my wishes are answered. mm! are you sure you're not a forest fairy?
8:09 am
pretty sure. >> all: [laughing] >> another great sticker for another great expedition. the rope won't hurt the tree, will it? >> not a bit. you don't live to be 2,000 years old unless you're tough. >> o-kay! giant hammock is ready to swing. jump in, guys! whoo! >> yeah! >> ooh, yay! >> whoo-hoo! >> yippee! >> yay! >> all right! >> whoo-hoo! >> [laughs] >> hop in, ranger rita. there's lots of room. >> well, uh, oh! why not? whoo-hoo-hoo! >> yay! >> yay, team doki we found the answer our expedition was so fun see you on the next one

[laughs] >> [laughs] >> to the sidewalk! >> [laughing]
8:45 am
cook! cook! cook! cook! >> nope, definitely not cooked. >> i wouldn't eat food off the ground anyway. yuck! >> guess it's not hot enough. >> maybe it would work somewhere else, somewhere hotter. >> where in the world is hotter than this? phew! >> i bet it's the closest place on the earth to the sun, wherever that is. >> according to the team from ecuador, it's on top of a mountain called chimborazo. >> ask if it's hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. >> [beeping] >> they say, ha ha, "why not come and try it?" >> [laughs] i do have another egg. >> and we have a question. come on, guys, it'expedition time! >> yahoo! >> let's go! >> hey, team doki everybody get ready now it's time to go right now
8:46 am
we've got a question something we need to know >> chimborazo, ecuador, here we come! >> hey, team doki everybody get ready now it's time to go there's something we need to know it's expedition time >> let's go! >> [laughing] >> >>heck it out! ecuador's named after an imaginary line around the earth's middle called the equator. >> and we're going to land here, in the andes mountain range. that's where we'll find chimborazo. it's not the highest mountain in theorld, but because it's right on the equator, it's the closest to theun. >> buckle up. we're about to land.
8:47 am
>> another perfect landing! not a single crack in our egg. >> i'll fix that crack later. i don't wanna miss the big eggs-periment. [laughs] >> phew! i'm glad i wore my sunhat. >> if it's this hot down here, imagine how hot it must be way up on chimborazo. >> hot enough to make a fried egg? >> fried eggs? you're going to eat huevo fritos on the mountain? >> we're not going to eat our egg; we're going to fry it on the hottest place on earth, chimborazo! >> the hottest? uh, but, i don't think that's going to work. >> we checked. it's the place on earth that's closest to the sun. >> um-- >> we like to find things out for ourselves. it's more fun that way. >> i suppose so. my name is fortunato.
8:48 am
these are sombrero de paja toquilla, hats made from toquilla straw. >> wow! i can weave a little, but your hats are amazing! >> fortunato, do you know the way up chimborazo? >> i do. i wish i could take you there, but i have to mind my hat stand. >> i'll look after it for you. i've always dreamed of having a t store. >> [laughs] well, then today your dream comes true. >> oh! oh! i'll stay and help anabella. >> i'll take your friends up the chimborazo. >> whoo-hoo! let's do it! >> [laughing] >> ooh, our first customers. >> [sighs] i guess everyone around re already has a hat. >> i know, let's make welcome home hats for when everyone gets back. >> anabella, that's a great idea!
8:49 am
running out of the toquilla straw he uses. >> maybe we can go pick some more. nobody's gonna bother the stand. >> you're right! let's go! >> ah, isn't my country beautiful? >> [laughs] and hot. wh-o-o-oa! >> i got it! a-a-ah! i don't got it! >> shelly! whoa, nice catch. >> you named the egg shelly? >> i sure did. who left all these bananas lying around? >> they fell from the trees. we grow many of the world's bananas here in ecuador. >> mm, freshest banana ever! >> mm, they do look good. >> then try one. but there's just one thing to
8:50 am
>> what? >> hairy tarantulas like to sleep in banana bunches. >> a-a-a-ah! >> huh? ah! >> [screaming] >> well, that'toquilla all right. >> why is it green? rtunato's hats are brown. >> i know why. fortunato said his hats are made of toquilla straw. he must have to dry this stuff first. >> but that'll take too long. >> no kidding. we better find some that's already prepared. >> it's a good thing the other hat lady had more toquilla straw. >> it sure is. >> ah! >> because now we definitely got some hat-making to do! >> shoo! shoo! ah! shoo! >> phew! that was hairy. >> at least we all made it out
8:51 am
>> except for my sunhat. >> don't worry. i'll make you a nehat... from this big banana leaf. >> thanks, fortunato. >> phew! it sure feels hot enough to fry an egg right here. >> what do ya think, doki? wanna test it out? >> n-not yet. we only brought one egg, so let's wait till we're even higher. then we'll do our eggs-periment. >> [shivering] are you sure we're getting c-c-closer to the sun? it's f-freezing up here. >> [laughs] here, maybe this will help. >> boy, ecuador is full of great hats! >> but why do we need warm hats? i thought it would get hotter as we climb higher, but it's
8:52 am
>> that's because the chimborazo is covered in glaciers, frozen sheets of ice. >> but it's the place on earth nearest to the sun. >> we thought it would be hot enough to fry an egg. [shivering] >> [laughs] that's what i wanted to tell you. it may be nearest to sun, but the sun is still many millions of miles away. and like everywhere else on earth, the higher up you go, the colder it gets. >> it looks like our big eggs-periment isn't all it's cracked up to be, doki. [laughs] >> that's okay. we still made a neat discovery. the place on earth nearest to the sun is freezing cold. and we didn't need to break any eggs to figure it out. >> [wind gusting] >> whoa! oh, no! >> ah! >> i can't look. >> it's okay, guys. shelly's fine. it's so cold up here she's
8:53 am
>> [laughing] >> wait till we tell anabella and mundi that our egg froze instead of fried on chimborazo. >> we're not the only ones who've been experimenting, look! >> hi, guys. >> [laughs] fortunato, we messed up. we left the stand for a while to get more straw-- >> and while we were gone, birds ate your hat >> oh! [laughs] so you made new ones. >> uh-huh, and hat-making is hard. >> w-we're sorry. we didn't do a very good job. >>h, i'd say you did a great job. i've never seen so many customers. >> probably 'cause they've never seen hats like these. >> well, i know you've never seen expedition stickers like these. i drew them on toquilla leaves. >> whoa! >> cool! >> thanks!
