weather over the next few days. we )ll start our thursday morning with temperatures in the low to mid 30s. by afternoon, highs will climb into the mid 40s. we )ll see sunshine for the morning, but by afternoon and evening, clouds will increase and thicken as our next frontal system approaches from the west. that system will bring wet weather our way late thursday night in form of rain first. but some snow will likely mix in with the rain overnight thursday into friday, especially for our inland and northern communities. little to no accumulation is expected. otherwise, expect rain for most of our viewing area during this event through friday. high temperatures will be in the mid 40s. drier weather moves in for saturday

sunday with high temperatures in the upper 40s on saturday and the low to mid 50s on sunday. we )ll be in the 60s next week. today marks the one year since anjelica "a-j" hadsell s disappearance. the norfolk 18- year-old was home from college on spring break-- when she disappeared. her body was found months later behind a southampton county home. a year later -- investigators still have more questions than answers -- newschannel 3 s allison mechanic shows us where the case is now. exactly one year ago today -- anjelica "aj" hadsell

police say the 18 year old college student was for spring break. at first police say they didn t think foul play was involved in her disappearance -- but as hours investigation became more serious. police began combing through aj s looking for clues. 435988 aj s step father -- wesley hadsell -- was arrested shortly after her disappearance but for charges unrelated to her disappearance. he spoke with newschannel 3 come home. in there kid i love and miss you so does your mom and we are here for you. if you can pick up the phone and call us we will come going on. as wesley sat in jail -- police continued to search for aj -- tips eventually led to this abandoned home in southampton county. there -- they recovered human remains -- which were eventually identified as aj s. tons: 443278 :22 none of it feels real it just feels like a terrible nightmare. friends and family comforted

made 39 days after aj was last seen. their questions changing from "where is aj" to "who did this to her". tons: 443278 :50 we don )t have answers for right now but in time we will heal that question is still unanswered a year later. in june the medical examiner released that aj died from acute heroin poisoning. though the manner of death is still undertermined. one year since she was last scene alive --- and no arrests have been in her death. the southampton commonwealth s attorney says they are still investigating. in norfolk im allison mechanic newschannel 3. new tonight in charlotte, investigators are hoping a series of photos will help solve a murder case gone cold. they say the victim may have ties to virginia beach. detectives worked with experts at davidson college to create sketches of the victim in the case. the unidentified 20-to-30 year old woman was found dead on statesville avenue in 20-11. they also have a photo of the

when they found her. and take a look at the sweatshirt she was wearing - it says "virginia beach, virginia." detectives think she may have a friend or relative in hampton roads. if she looks familiar - you re asked to call charlotte police. new at 11 stopping violent crime -- that was the goal of a community unity forum held in hampton tonight. in 2016 -- that s 2- months and 2 days -- there have been 9 death investigations on the peninsula alone. tonight there was a packed house at hampton high school. members of the newport news and hampton police departments, prosecutors, and pastors met with the community to talk solutions. it

into the political ring. city councilman bill moody says rowe will formally announce on thursday -- he )s running for mayor. rowe had served as city manager for about two and a half years -- when he was fired last april. the firing came even though he had already announced his resignation effective just a few months later. at the time - mayor kenny wright ld us the firing had to with rowe s proposed budget -- which included a 17-cent tax increase. now rowe will get his chance at political revenge. several others are running for mayor. most notable -- the incumbent -- kenny wright. he announced in a february facebook post that he would seek re-election. in his post -- he listed his accomplishments and added the quote "i )m in it to win it!" the election is in november. i reached out to mayor wright to get his thoughts on the

john rowe is scheduled to make the formal announcement tomorrow evening. live in the control room, brendan ponton newschannel 3. new tonight-- the sports authority is going bankrupt. the chain-- specializing in sports equipment and apparel-- is closing 140 stores. three locations in hampton roads -- in norfolk, virginia beach and hampton -- are closing their doors. employees at those locations will be out jobs. no word yet on the exact date the stores will close.. new details - we now know the cause of death for a man found dead at a suffolk cemetery. the medical examiner says 42-year-old wayne watford died from gunshot wounds to the back. watford s body was found yesterday at the pleasant hill cemetery-- on dill road. if you know anything about the case, call the crime line at 1-888-lock-u-up. jesse matthew is headed to prison for life. he struck a plea deal - and pleaded guilty to killing morgan harrington and hannah graham. tonight - the girls parents are talking about it. here )s kris van cleave with more.
