today in virginia beach families said they )ll never forget where they were when they heard the news. were tracking snow on the way in your first warning storm team forecast. parts of our area under a winter weather advisory as more cold weather moves through hampton roads in the next 24 hours. welcome to newschannel three at 5 - i )m les smith. and i m kurt williams -- in for-p&barbara ciara.-p&we also have more warm temperatures moving in for your weekend. chief meteorologist patrick rockey is covering it all in your first warning storm team forecast. tracking rain, snow and gusty winds....we re keeping an eye on an area of low pressure that will move in from the west tonight. as the low approaches the area, scattered rain will begin moving in. now, most of hampton roads and northeastern north carolina will have above freezing temperatures at the onset of this event.

some of our temperatures will be marginal for a few of our inland and northern communities, which could support snow to mix in through early friday morning. some snow accumulations can be expected during this event but will likely be limited because of the rain. so areas near sussex, surry, williamsburg- james city co., gloucester. mathews, middlesex and the northern eastern shore could see about 1-2"of snow. however, some of our forecast models are hinting at higher amounts of snow over portions of the middle peninsula and the northern neck, possibly up to 3". even higher snow totals are expected near petersburg and richmond. again, for most of the viewing area, this will be a rain

42-year-old wayne watford -- at the pleasant hill cemetary around 1-30 in the morning on tuesday they )ve called his death -- a homicide. darion tells newschannel 3 -- his father did have some trouble with the law over the years -- and served jail time on and off but darion says -- he never heard of his father having enemies. 46;22 that )s just strange i m not understanding it, i don t know if he owed people money 46;39 i couldn )t give everything but i would have given the best i could to keep my dad alive according to the medical examiner -- watford was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his back. a city spokesperson would not say if police believe he was killed here or if someone dumped his body. 47;55 he didn t have any life insurance so we have to find a way to get him buried as darion and his family work to get the funds for the funeral -- they )re hoping police come forward with an arrest. in 3. in newport news. two men -- shot just minutes apart. today both men are in the hospital -- one recovering, the other fighting for his life. first -- police were called to jefferson avenue near the

portsmouth police are using social media to educate children about gun safety after two accidental shootings sunday. newschannel threes brian hill shows us how police are reaching out to young people. its a quiet atmosphere on lancer drive ... unlike its large police presence sunday. this after a seven- year-old accidentally shot himself in the hand with an unsecured firearm. residents say can t believe kids have access to guns 4:45 )kids a grab a gun and want to shoot it, just to feel it. 5:02 aint nothing like that happen over here and i been staying out here for 16 years. and it didn t just happen once ... but twice. that same day a child accidentally shot another child on moregate lane 28:18 )i was also concerned that this could have been an accidental killing, just playing with guns. my first thing was how did they get it? )according to police the shooter actually found the gun outside. 23:01 )oh my god. 23:27 )for a nine- year-old or

a chinese toddler is safely back with his grandfather after a terrifying fall. dashcam footage captured the 2- year old boy falling into traffic when the van he was in began to accelerate. good samaritans rescued the boy and chased down the grandfather,

the boy s grandfather says the lock on his vehicle s tailgate was damaged in a rear-end collision days earlier. he s being criticized for not using a child car seat. a new york police horse broke loose and galloped through times square. police say "gunny" was spooked by some loud noise. so he bucked the mounted officer who was riding him. police officers went after gunny. they found him at a nearby parking garage, where mounted police usually hang out during their breaks. three vehicles were damaged during the horses wild run, including a yellow cab. but bystanders say they thought it was something much worse. the officer was not hurt but rushed to the hospital as a precaution. a former city manager -- fired from him position now wants to get back in city government. and he will be running against one
