storm team forecast. welcome to newschannel three at 5 - i )m les smith. and i m barbara ciara. more showers in the forecast for the weekend -- but we re tracking another sharp increase in temperatures. some cities may even hit seventy degrees next week. chief meteorologist patrick rockey is covering it all in your first warning storm team forecast. tracking clouds and a few showers for the weekend....the entire weekend will not be a washout, but a few showers are possible. no rain is expected on instead, we )ll see partly cloudy skies. the winds will relax a bit from the north between 5 and 15 mph. temperatures will dip into the mid 30s overnight. on saturday, we )ll likely start the day with some sunshine. but clouds will build in advance fast moving area of low pressure from the northwest. this clipper system will move over the area, giving way to a few scattered showers late saturday

a new witness that could change the wesley hadsell case. federal lawyers say it could link wesley to the death and disappearance of his adopted daughter -- aj. newschannel 3 s gabriella deluca broke the story online earlier today. she s live in the control room. these federal court documents lay out the stunning claims. the allegation: hadsell confessed to being involved in aj )s death. hadsell s former lawyers tells me he thinks this may be one of hadsell s cellmates who came up with this new claim. for a year -- no one has known what exactly happened to a-j hadsell. but now -- the same week she disappeared last year -- wesley hadsell )s public defenders say there s a new witness who may connect wesley hadsell to aj )s death. wesley is aj )s adoptive father -- this is video of newschannel 3 previously

he s serving time for a federal weapons charge -- as part of a plea agreement. just this week -- his attorneys withdrew from his case after they learned he also represent that new witness in another case. ...something a legal analyst calls a conflict of interest. federal court documents say this new witness -- who isn t named -- hopes to receive a reduced sentence for testifying against hadsell. aj hadsell disappeared this time last year. police eventually found her body behind an abandoned home in southampton county. that s when detectives arrested wesley for unrelated charges -- then

he was to be sentenced next month - but this new information may lead to new, and more serious charges. i also spoke to wesley )s mother-p&today -- who says she s confident her son never confided in anyone -- because he had nothing to do with a-j )s disappearance. gabriella deluca newschannel 3. in newport news -- police have arrested a man who they say raped a 14-year- old girl. 33-year-old jason goergen was arrested in richmond by u-s marshals and a fugitive apprehension unit from newport news wednesday. police say the rape was reported by a richmond area health facility back in september. they also say goergen and his teenage victim knew each other. he )s been charged with two counts of rape and aggravated sexual battery. a newport news bus driver -- accused of assaulting a 12- year-old student. according to police -- just after four on wednesday -- they were called to investigate a fight between the driver -- 58- year-old james hopkins and the 12-year-old boy. court documents

demanded the boy )s phone. after trying to grab the phone several times -- documents show that the boy eventually pushed hopkins back. police say -- the two began to fight after that -- and at one point hopkins had the boy in a headlock. hopkins was charged with misdemeanor assault and released. a school spokeswoman says hopkins is suspended from duty -- and the student is suspended from school for his actions leading up to the fight. virginia may join a list of states fining people for smoking with kids in the car. newschannel three s brian hill at 5. we )ve all seen it -- someone driving in the car - windows up and smoking with children in the car. doctor )s say even rolling windows down doesn )t make it safer. and the virginia general assembly is taking action. it )s a vote aiming to make virginian children traveling in cars safer

thirty- three crew members were on board -- including a virginia beach native. the ship )s owners say the ships main propulsion failed. all 33- people on board died. the settlements were for reportedly five- hundred thousand dollars each. a driver was taken to the hospital after his tractor trailer slid off the highway in norfolk. it happened on interstate 2-64 around midnight. state police tell us they didn )t need to close any lanes but the truck needed to be pulled out of the ditch. that took workers about two hours. the driver was taken to the hospital but should be okay. as victims of the deadly tornadoes that hit virginia two weeks ago continue picking up the pieces -- tobacco company financial assistance. today-- the company donated 50-thousand dollars to the region. governor mcauliffe was at the presentation and spoke on behalf of the donations. the funds will help support were impacted. altria

theres another turn in the o-j simpson case. los angeles police are investigating the discovery of a knife reportedly found on property simpson once owned. teri okita reports with the details. pkg los angeles police announced friday that investigators are now testing a knife that a construction worker allegedly found on property super: capt. andy neiman/lapd sot within the last month, lapd became aware of an item that was allegedly recovered by a citizen at the during the demolition of a worker who helped level the home in 1998 says he turned the knife over to an off duty lapd officer years ago. the l-a-p-d says, when detectives discovered the now-retired officer had the knife, they launched an investigation. they say the former officer believed the case was closed and kept it. sot: teri but he was an lapd officer. he didnt know to turn it in? capt i dont know

ship seven cars of snow three hundred and sixty miles to make sure there was enough for this year s iditarod race. a ceremony marking the start of the sled dog race and winter celebration is held in anchorage every year. persistent warm temperatures over the last few weeks have melted the snow that remained on the streets and put a severe dent into the snow the city stockpiled for the annual event. the train company says they ve never had a job like this. even with the extra snow -- the normal 11-mile route for the ceremonial race has been shorted to three miles. the race will start as normal on sunday in willow alaska 50 miles north of anchorage. the last chance for bob mcdonnell to overturn his federal corruption charges.
