9:03 am
we put on our ptes. we all have to feed our family and my people see it as burden you have to wash diss, u have to chop,ou have to do this, b if you bng meaning into what you're doing and if you areaking recipes that have been psedown or family heirloom you find a way toive meaning into the kitchen tasks just makes it a magical time and a macal pce in the family. >> i love that. it's hard with teens. >> it is very hard. to get people together and make it happen?ay, how do you they've got everything going. going to sports, theatre, drama, wmuctever, how do you make it happen? >> for me it is make it exciting. make it exciting for them. for dinner at that time, tonight 're making what you wanted. >> have your fends ove we're making carnitas. never tried a pasta at home making it from scratch.
9:04 am
a little extra work and extra effort you haveo clean a ttle more, but at the end of the day i think the investment in making that sittingnd eating together an important piece of your family life, pays off. >> one of the things i read about you i found interesting was the things you aost always have on hand at home. things like fresh fruits, you put those in a lot of even dinnereals mangos things like at. but also salsas. different salsas. that's sort of a staple in you >> yeah. >> i think with my youngest son says we eat beans 7 times a week and i think if there were more days in the week we would eat black beans 20 times a week. but refried beans are a favorite for a side or making a torta whatever it is. refried beans, corn tortillas, just easy accessible things. and tacos. i mean you can taco anything.
9:05 am
>> you can taco last night's left over and give it fancy name tuna casserole taco. [laughter] >> yea >> or taco for breakfast right? >> exactly. exactly. >> i also like how youn this where you call yourself a mex americana, you have all of these traditions you hold to your heritage, but you also except the fac there is tex-mex. you do call them refried beans now. for a long timeou that. i think there is a lot of people whether they are immigrants or have mixed families how do y hold onto that and also except you know the changes and t tex-mex and still feel like it is part of your culture, but also accept it's an americana staple as well? >> that's such a great question. i think i have changed in my answer to it. in the beginning i was really trying to hold onto the things that nurtured me at home.
9:06 am
was a political analyst. when i switched to cooking i was trying to show people traditional mexican cooking. and as the years have gone by i really see i tend to say i'm happily torn between two countries and two cultures and i feel like my kids are blessed being mexican american. their eyes water with the american anthem. but i feel like there is ways to show can really enrich the arican table without there being a clash. you see it in the thanksgiving, you know meal. we have a thanksgiving episode in the new season. i make a mexican style turkey. it pays homage to the beautiful thanksgiving tradition, but also showing how latinos we can enrich the american life. >> i have a question on enriching a meal i enjoy a lot.
9:07 am
ways to mix things up. one of my favorite things is refried black beans, cheese, salsa, egg and fresh avocado. what would you add to it? >> you have the perfect fiesta in there. for me the perfect lunch is a warm tortilla with a slice of avocado and pinch of salt. you add refriedeans and eggs to it you have like a party. that's the beauty of mexican food we're so accommodating very easy to put a mexican meal together. it's very easy to have mexicans over i always say when people hear come over for mexican, you know there is no starting time. you know there is no ending time. you know there is goi to be bountiful food. it's very casual and just very welcoming and i feel like mexicans are just like that easy. >> we ran out of time want to share about mexican fiesta.
9:08 am
challenging about being on tv. people ask us this a lot. >> what do you say i want to hear what you say. >> for me it's choosing an outfit every day. [laughter] >> try to make it different. it's like didn't i just wear that last week. what is it for you? >> i mean, i, i don't know. i feel like, i have evolved a lot. i'm much more confident in the cooking, and trying to look good at the same time which it's horrle to look good to make the food look good and mexican food is messy. so trying to have the food look pretty and try to make you look decent at the same time, it's a little bit of a challenge. that's why i love radio. [laughter] >> you can go in your pajamas you can talk about any meal and you can talk about any meal and it sounds just gorgeous, but you don't have to make it look pretty. >> true. >> that challenge about the food
9:09 am
>> it is. one of the hardest thing to do on tv is the cooking segment i give you a lot of credit. >> yeah the timing. >> exactly. here's how to meet pati at mexican fiesta. 3:00 p.m. you're doing a cooking demo which is fantastic. this is tomorrow. she will be doing that demonstration at mexican fiesta. she'll be at the mp tv booth in the cultural pavilion from her cook book will be available for purchase throughout mexican fiesta all at the mptv booth which is great. hgreat to meet you. >> thank you for being here. >>hank you. >> enjoy fiesta. next time bring food. [laughter] >> absolutely great to see you. we have a whole lot coming up on today's show including a solutionor female health problems from incontinence to?' dryness and so much more.

9:49 am
of fabrics so we've talked about paper thin leather, we've talked about tissue weight cashmere, i can really only think of one fabric that i would say is still truly seasonal and that would be linen. >> exactly. >> i was going to guess linen or wool. but even wool -- >> there is tropical weight wool. >> really anything like cashmere, leather, wear those year-round. if we keep that in our brain when we're tnsitiong our closet think we'll find we have many more options in our wardrobe t wha thought we did. i ha brought a couple things thingstoday to just talk about . >> ihink as consumers we have noticed that changing when you shop you are finding short ves and tank tops all year-round. usually we used to put thatway so you know the fashion industry was you to layer it up and transition between seasons.

[laughter] >> okay here's another revolution. used to be we wou wear in the fall and winter dark on the

your black pants you had your brown apartments. -- pants. now you will see white on the bottom even white in fashion magazines, but you need to be very deliberate. it's all about the footwear. my boots definitely say fall and winter. and my top definitely has to say fall and winter like i would even wear this skirt this is a black cashmere crew neck. i would wear it even with the black turtle necknd boots. but it has to be deliberate. you can't be half pregnant here. got it? all right. >> got it. >> don't be half pregnant. >> people are going to ask and yo gureng to say you're not. >> okay. >>er ath revolutionary thing?? is, it used to be that botanicals were only spring and summer. you only saw flowers you only saw birds and things in the spring and summer. now very very big into fall and
