tv Meet the Press NBC August 29, 2016 1:30am-2:31am CDT
1:30 am
[bing] - one thing can either inspire a person or break a person. i'm looking forward to rooting people on and being here for the dreamers like me. ? ? - everything that i like to do in my life has to be real or has to be genuine. sitting and watching people sing and helping people make music and producing... it's what i would do every day. [exciting music] - i don't know that we've ever had a shake up - ? oh oh oh oh ? - two women coaches is what "the voice" needs. - ? oh oh oh oh oh ? - this is alicia keys and mylie cyrus. - as much as the world likes to make this girl catfight scenario, that's actually blake and adam. - what's the opposite of blake shelton? - what? - alicia keys! [laughter] - ? on fire, fire ? - alicia comes from a place more like that writer, that producer. - where'd you learn to sing like that? - from you. - ooh!
1:31 am
- i straight up love you. - i just don't know how honest it is-- i'm starting to kinda hear it. - ha ha ha ha! - ? i'm gonna light it up ? - mylie's the youthful spirit that we've been missing. - she's this great performer, but she also has this ear for music. - ? i'm on fire, fire ? if you're rock, you get with adam, if you're country, you go with blake, and i think with me i don't think there's that genre wall. i think if you do country, you could wanna be on my team, blake. ? i'll be your honey mustard ? e cyrus's voice. - ? oh oh oh oh oh ? - season to season, it's all about the talent, 'cause the second you hear someone that you really connect with, it's like day one. - you've won three times, and we're on the 11th season. so that was the math i was doin' for ya. - we're picking artists based on the most pure thing, and that's what we hear in their voice. - you're able to hear somebody true for who they are, and that's what music is. - ? oh oh oh oh oh ?
1:32 am
e. - hey, ally, your driver's here. he's ready to take you whenever you're done. - ? oh oh oh oh oh ? ? do you feel alive? ? - ah, we had a lotta good time, old friend. - it's gonna be weird to microwave our hot pockets on low and not get third-degree burns. - mmm. [thud] i'm sorry, everyone. if i could go back in time and not nuke the metal spoon that got lost in my mac and cheese, i would. - really? that is what you would do - you really are a waste of a person. if i had a time machine, i'd go back and stop hurricane katrina, start apple, and seduce hitler, and that's just day one. - okay, stopping hurricanes aside, why wouldn't you just kill hitler? - no, not adolf hitler. i'd seduce his father. that way he never met his mother, and then hitler never gets born. i'm a hero. come 1940, everyone's like, "hey, this is great! no hitler. thanks, dina!" bam! [dramatic music]
1:33 am
[suspenseful notes] [engine revving] [doorbell rings] - lucy preston. homeland security. you need to come with me. - you got a hell of a reputation-- history, anthropology. master sergeant wyatt logan, delta force. ? ? - 3:30 pm, may 6th, 1937. - oh, the humanity! - you're telling me that this guy actually went back in time, for real, to the "hindenburg"? ink someone who loved history would want to save it. - our earliest prototype. she isn't fancy, but she works...usually. you need to go with them. - i can't. i am black. there's literally no place in american history that'll be awesome for me. - lucy. - rufus. i'm a pilot. kind of. - kind of? - [exhales] - have you been drinking? - didn't know i was gonna be working tonight, ma'am. - might wanna hold on. [engine thrumming]
1:34 am
- have you seen this man? - yes. he was here. he's working as ground crew. he's gonna help bring down the "hindenburg." ? ? - i think flynn is trying to rewrite history. it could change the present in ways we can't possibly predict. [dramatic music] what is it about her? - my wife died. so when i saw kate, that's all i can think about. it's gonna blow! ? ? - i know everything about you. ? ? - i'm not sure you realize where you are...boy. - i hope you live long enough to see michael jordan dunk, michael jackson dance, mike tyson punch--really just any black guy named michael. because the future is not on your side. - i know what you're really meant to be. ? ? you're important in ways you can't even imagine. ? ? - that's my handwriting, but i didn't write that.
1:37 am
- now, back to the "nbc primetime preview" show. . - greeting cards have gotten so mean. "today, you're not just fat and ugly, you're fat, ugly, and old. happy birthday, mom." - i think it's a pun, you know, like instead of saying happy birthday. - do you... know what a pun is? - yeah. it's when someone expects you to say one thing, but instead, you just...slam 'em. - yeah. yeah, that's it. - nailed it. it says, "happy mother's day. good luck with your lap-band surgery." - oh, i just realized pretty soon i'm gonna be the one getting mother's day cards. and then grandmother's day cards. - mm-hmm... - and then condolence cards when my husband dies. and then... [crying] and then "i'm sorry that you're dead" cards... - whoa, whoa, hey... - no, no, no. - look at this--hey, look! it's a family of little baby ducks! - shh, shh, shh. - oh, my god, they're so cute! they have umbrellas! - yeah...
1:38 am
quack, quack! - yeah! - okay, i'm ready. - how could you possibly want me right now? - in any state, my wife, you arouse me. - i bet i can make that go away. - there's nothing you could say-- - my water just broke. - yep. - yeah. [upbeat music] ? ? - ? happy birthday...? - 36 today. - you don't look 36. ? ? - i'm sorry, guys. i need to cut. - i found him. my father. - aah! - yes, looking good. - you hear that, babe? we got a boy! - something's not right. - your wife is in distress, jack. [alarm beeping] ? ? - 36 years ago, you left me at the front door of a fire station. - ? and like that, it's...? - tell me to lose the damn weight. - wanna say that again? - i'm gonna lose the damn weight. - we lost the third baby, but you have two healthy children, jack.

rew...you. - ? extraordinary heart ? - you wanna meet your grandchildren? - there's not a single day that goes by that i don't think of a child i lost. go see your babies. they're excited to meet their father. i think maybe they got a good one. ? ? - hey. you wanna be fat friends? - i can't fall for a fat person right now. - i guess i'll lose the weight then. - [laughs] - ? pick up the pieces ? - go! way to go! - 13, 14, 15... - no way--there's no way! - i just don't think it's big enough. - i'm in! i'm in! - it's not official until it's fully zipped. - zip it up! zip it up!
1:40 am
- you were right! "fits a whole human body" was not just a creepy sales line. - well, you made a believer outta me. - congrats, little dude. - wait--there's no zipper on the inside. there's either a loose thread in here or a really large spider. ohh...no, it's just a thread. no! it's a spider! gah! - last season on "blindspot"... - she can't remember who she is. - take her with you. - am i really taylor shaw? - you did this to yourself. ? ? - these tattoos-- they've saved a lot of lives. - you're a double agent? how could you have done this? - don't do this. - jane doe, you're under arrest. - and...action! - where we're gonna pick up in the beginning of season 2 is that jane has actually been taken by the cia
1:41 am
we have a lot of new faces who are going to help clarify who jane doe really is. - jane doe has escaped. we need your help to get to jane before the cia does. - where is she now? - they've got a fun vibe so far. - hello, jane. my name is naz. - season 2 is going to pack even more punches - we will have more stunts, even more car chases. i'm excited to see where this takes us. - the safety and security of this entire nation hangs in the balance. - doesn't mean we can trust her. - it's going to send you on a massive emotional rollercoaster. there cannot be any room for doubt. so do it!

1:58 am
nevada have the advantage. suburban and improve younger voters. >> prepping for donald trump today and who would you have portray trump? would you have a mark cuban, something like that? >> well, it's a g i think, it is going to be difficult because you have to prepare for many different trumps, like well behaved modest trump. a trump that doesn't prepare for anything. i think the job of preparing for trump is difficult. you have to have somebody that can play many different roles. it's face nating. >> you were in the white house
1:59 am
care for years. these are headlines in the last couple weeks, washington post won is the one i want to emphasize, health care exchange signups fall short of forecast, literally, one half of what was projected at this point in time on signups, let me ask you this, how concerned are you that ocho obamacare could implode? it's not been a good year for it? >> not at all. you got to step back. you had millions and millions of am coverage. health care costs obviously have been on a descent trajectory. so in terms of overall health care costs for the country. what will happen after this election, though, is obviously you'll have the space to say okay, what is working well and almost all of it is. what needs to be strengthened. you'll see a lot of republican governors acre accept medicaid funding. there is no doubt over time
2:00 am
>> given the insurance companies bailing on a public option now a mistake? >> i think the president spoke recently about that, that he -- i don't think you could get a public option passed. that wasn't going to get pasted. we barely passed it. at the end of the day the president spoke and that's part of the solution going forward. >> always a pleasure. you got it. a lot to chew on there. we'll be back with the panel in a moment and later, t increasing okay, so what's our latest data say? our customer is a 21-year-old female. heavily into basketball. wait. data just changed... now she's into disc sports. ah, no she's not. since when? since now. she's into tai chi. she found disc sports too stressful. hold on. let me ask you this... what's she gonna like six months from now? who do we have on aerial karate? steve. steve. steve. and alexis.

back wite before we get into the clinton foundation stuff. while i was interviewing reince priebus. mike pence was on cnn and said let's be clear, nothing has changed. his position on illegal information, illegal immigration, principals and policies are absolutely consistent and actually thanks reminded me of something a spokesperson for the trump campaign christina pearson said. let me play it and let's talk about it.
2:04 am
he changed words he is saying. what he has always said from the beginning -- [ laughter ] >> no, that he does not want to allow people to stay in this country illegally. >> look, priebused a bitted he changed his position and what he said in the primaries is different, hugh. are they playing too many rhetorical games here? >> that's the north star he cannot rt he's always been ambiguous on touch back. who knows what that meant. >> we have robert costa here reporting to the washington post that donald trump tends to reflect the words of the last person that spoke to him and you can see the disconnect that he literally says it's a softening and got uncomfortable with the word softening and said it's a hard and incredibly durable and strong wall and i think donald trump has not thought deeply about policy but reflecting
2:05 am
>> it's the crowd that's cheering. it's the push back and it -- you saw the most blatant example he did a poll and said to the crowd at the hannity town hall what do you want? do you want to deport them all or not? is it? it's like the roman circus. thumbs up, thumbs down. he's reacting and there is a fight for the mind and heart of donald trump. >> kelly ann -- >> you got to think about trump as someone orbit. you got roger ailes there and laura ingraham and steve ban in there and kelly ann conway and the family worried about the brand for trump. you have all these voices and trump doesn't have a populace core. that's not who he is. this crucial trunk tour is being flooded with advice. >> the businessman in him
2:06 am
gravitating toward middle ground because ultimately, middle ground is where he's comfortable. >> i should point out kelly ann said roger ailes was not at that meeting. there was is a disconnect there. she said she's not been at a meeting roger ails is a friend and advisor. >> ails may have been not in that same -- >> the question i think that voters could rightly ask then, if this is a person so easily weighed by the loudest the moment, what does that mean for his decision making? you look at the people around him. people like steve bannon who is a toxic personality around him and think about that inner circle. >> we may be one drop away from bannon not being part of this campaign. >> secretary clinton carries more baggage. >> i want to transition -- >> sidney blumenthal.
2:07 am
>> when you talk about the people behind him. donald trump's economic advisors are donors and a policy that would be beneficial ending state his state tax. >> i clinton foundation, what i don't understan t white house knew this was a problem. >> signed by everybody. >> and means you know was interesting, he wasn't fully comfortable. i noticed this week they rally around her all the time except are the foundation comes up. i didn't see dan pfeiffer. david axelrod tweets backing her up. >> here is the push back and something that we really have to get on because they say they are

wind this down. for one thing, she was asked on friday and foundation operations on the ground. the clinton foundation does do. and the foundations acre cemented the whole health care component. chelsea clinton is going to be on the board. i've been saying that's not news. the fact is that she's still going to be on the board to wind this down. >> doing good work. >> let me finish. bill clinton said that on to all of us in the press on wednesday that they are not going -- they don't want anyone to be fired. it's going to be a slow wind down. not by the times if she's elected. >> i'm not saying --
2:09 am
>> one moment. >> the quid is very wealthy people, give 11.5 million people aids drugs and huma abedin may call you back. we have to ask whether we've invented a standard. the george bush foundation, which benefits him and his library and accepts foreign donations existed through the eight years of his son's presidency. i don't recall us asking whether people who might want to inflnc bush because if they give to a foundation that benefitted not financially. >> the state department said they find nothing where there is proof of action and i've got to tell you when we went through the a.p. story, they found e-mails -- >> can i tell you, when we're debating -- very quickly. when we're debating proof of this and that. here is what the voter hears. rich people get access and by
2:10 am
>> that's legal and that's american politics. >> this is the key question. i went on the trails with mike pence yesterday talking to swing voters for trump. you get the sense the clintons came out with a bright speech on the trump campaign and the republicans have all this chatter about the clinton foundation. who is hearing what right now in this campaign? 7 five days left, the clinton campaign and foundation. >> great closing point. we'll pause it there. there it is. when we come back, republicans are so images, videos, social updates. we call it dark data. 80% is invisible to most businesses. the ibm cloud has tools that can help see dark data and put it to work. hello, my name is watson. working with watson in the ibm cloud, we can help an energy company predict pipeline corrosion. and help a start-up to use social data to predict market trends.
2:11 am
that's what the ibm cloud is built for. terry bradshaw? what a surprise! you know what else is a surprise? shingles. and how it can hit you out of nowhere. i know. i had it. c'mon let's sit down and talk about it. and did you know that one in three people will get shingles? (all) no. that's why i'm reminding people if you had chickenpox then the shingles virus is already inside you. (all) oooh. who's had chickenpox? scoot over. and look that nasty rash can pop up anywhere . talk to your doctor or pharmacist. about a vaccine that can help prevent shingles. with my moderate to severe ulcerative colitis, the possibility of a flare was almost always on my mind. thinking about what to avoid, where to go... and how to deal with my uc. to me, that was normal. until i talked to my doctor. she told me that humira helps people like me get uc under control and keep it under control

we are back. it's data download time. you may have heard donald trump is energizing republican voters and building a registration advantage going into the fall but the numbers show much more of a mixed picture. let me go through it. we decided to take a close look at five battle ground states with significant hispanic populations, north carolina, florida, colorado, arizona and nevada. since the beginning of this year, republicans seen bigger
2:14 am
states, florida and north carolina. while democrats have seen greater voter registration increases in three. advantages in colorado, nevada and arizona. and we know the unusual gop nominating fight and enthusiasm for trump did increase republican registration in all of these states. so, how do you explain the increase democratic registration? well, let's look at hispanics. in these five states, there are 18 counties with hispanic populations over 1 registration grew at a higher rate than the state as a whole and in 15 of these 18 counties, the registration advantage went to the democrats. now this is all significant because and these growing counties newly registered voters are more likely to be brand-new voters to the process. not just to the democratic party. meaning more new voters in november for clinton.
