ingredients, no bs. that's all in there. so they are really good for you. >> how do they taste? >> i think they are really good. they look a little bit like a chewy -- >> dog toy? [laughter] >> but they are really good. very good. this is chocolate coconut. i usually like the blueberry this is my new favorite thing so i had to share it. >> it's good i like it. now i'm c to talk about something. things you can do in ten minutes to get organized or a little more organized. set your timer. [laughter] >> sorry. did i give you too big of a bite. >> unt-uh. >> do you like it? >> uh-huh it's really good. it kind of sticks in your teeth a little bit >> i know if we have it in our teeth don't judge. >> set your timer for ten minutes today's tip is delete old emails. it doesn't take a lot of time, but if that is your mission can
9:03 am
minutes. >> oh, yeah. >> there are emails you have to respond to make it a quick response. just because i read this once, just because somebody sends you a textbook you don't have to reply with a textbook. there it is true you feel guilty if you don't give them an equal reply, but you have seen that on facebook there is two types of people. the people who can have all of those numbers on their inbox and those that have to have zero. and i actually just last night went through old emails and went through a ton of ema have a number on my email on my phone on that little icon. i >> i have a zero there too. >> i feel like a lot of teachers for example, they are saying they will get back to you within 24 hours. i would love to be able to do that always. >> if i took ten minutes a day i would have a 0 more often. >> all it takes is ten minutes in your closet. i would add to that deleting old pictures from your phone.
9:04 am
you don't lose them. >> where is that thing? >> i don't know. >> optimist verses pessimist. talking about obsessive. there was a study in 2009, fascinating over 100,000 women over the age of 50 claim that optimists live longer. then in 2013 they reversed that opinion. there was research saying that pessimists actually live longer because they are more careful, they don't take the silly risks that optimists do. optimists jeoptimists generallyd think they are good natured so they live longer. now the latest research published a verdict they say it's a balance between optimism and pessimism that people live the longest. whatever. but what is interesting about optimist there is are certain things they are more likely to do. also not surprising more likely quicker to forgive. >> yeah. >> more likely to exercise.
9:05 am
stress. >> yeah. >> there you go. >> fun being an optimist. >> and it can be a choice. >> before we move on with the show we're going to take a look at art's cameras plus picture of the day. >> stephanie says her 13-year-old daughter mckenya let her put a band of daisies in her hair and take a picture both of write rare things. she quick -- both of which are rare things. she quickly took this picture and now it's her how sweet is that. >> it's like okay quickly take it fine take it. >> it's a great shot. >> if you have a favorite photo you would like to see be sure to enter it into our picture of the day contest. email to pictures@themorningblend.com. that's right. >> i got to swallow that chewy bar. first up today one woman's personal journey with ovarian cancer. every year more than 22,000 women are diagnosed with this type of cancer.
9:06 am
killer because the symptoms can be very subtle and detection often too late for successful treatment. >> cheryl figg join us with her story and we also have dr. elizabeth dickson-michaelson who is an oncologist and board member of the wisconsin ovarian cancer alliance. thanks for being here ladies. there nice to be here. >> thanks for being here. i think ovarian cancer is something that is very scary to women because of that whisper killer the silent symptoms explain what it is and how it affects our body? >> what ovarian cancer is, any of the cells inside the ovary can start becoming something that they are not supposed to be. so they stop listening to the normal things that our body tells ourselves to do and they start growing. and essentially what has ended up happening is it can spread inside the abdomen and we don't have a good screening tool for it. that is something the fda has just come out saying we don't
9:07 am
educate women about the symptoms of o ovarian cancer so they can think about what is happening in my body? is there something not right i have to go to the doctor on get checked out. >> the reality is they are still often very subtle and combined with that the fact there isn't good screening for ovarian cancer is frustrating especially for women who are proactive about their health. they get mammograms, pap smears, they see their doctor every year they do the right things. before get to let's talk about the science and symptoms. we have a visual. beat. >> what you are looking for is b for bloating, anytime you feel like you are just more full than you should be, e is for eating less, you can't necessarily eat what you normally would. a for abdominal or pelvic pain and t for trouble with your bowels or bladder. >> is the disease often very advanced by the time you notice these symptoms? >> sometimes it can be.
9:08 am
exam every single year where your doctor and you are talking about your symptoms things like that so they can do a good exam. otherwise we sometimes catch it very very late. >> how about for you sheryl. what made you maybe ask to be checked out and how your journey began? >> mine was very similar in it was pretty difficult. i teach an aerobic dance class so i'm always exercising and i was getting little twinges. i went to see my general doctor. she did and exam and there was nothing there. she said let's wait a little bit. i had a trip coming up came back through summer it just didn't feel right. i started feeling a little bloated. she said let's have you go in and get one of the ultrasound of my ovaries. and that's where they found it.
9:09 am
>> how advanced was yours? >> i was stage 3. >> did you have chemotherapy and radiation? >> i went through chemo for one year i was in remission for 20 minutes and it came back so i went through another round of chemo and then it started to grow again, a little bit last november and we're on a new regimen and i'm on remission again. >> >> the third time is in the chemo family. >> yes. it cuts the blood off in the tumors. >> where are you at right now? >> you're in remission right now? >> as of last thursday. >> let's keep it there. third time is a charm. i've got to know these are beautiful pictures of you good for you for battling this for a third time and coming out on the
9:10 am
remission, how did it affect you personally? emotionally and your family too? >> i have an mazing family. my husband i have two daughters and just total support. i'm very lucky in that. friends, i was a teacher, so my school all of the colleagues all of the families are behind me. i direct plays and musicals so i've got a lot of love happening there in mequon so i'm very appreciative of that. so there were things like one of the bucket live was going to isle royal national park. we have been up there many years, but never going to isle royal. i said we're doing it. that was right after i finished the first round of chemo that summer. so that was me screaming you know, i made it! [laughter] >> i'm alive. and then, this last november when it came back again, my daughter was planning on getting married next year.
9:11 am
son we weren't sure where things were going so my daughter moved her wedding up this year. so the picture of she and i at the wedding is very special because it was gorgeous wedding and wonderful in the summer and stuff. i don't know what all pictures you had that you were showing. initially i this long blonde hair i did have to have my hair cut and buzzed. my girls and i had a lot of fun trying on wigs. [laughter]>> just, you know i have been very positive. i felt when i was first told i had ovarian cancer to be honest the first thing i thought of was i have had a blessed life so i'm going to go forward and thanks to incredible team that i work with with dr. dickson and laurie a bunch of people i do a lot of extra stuff they have suggested. i do acupuncture and reki and
9:12 am
if you look at my calendar it's a lot about me trying to stay healthy. >> that's selfish stuff you are doing you are doing for all of the people that love you. they appreciate the time you are taking for yourself. >> i think going through a cancer journey it's unique for everyone. it is devastating at first. your whole life gets thrown into a tis'y. for me it has been an learning experience. i'm a very upbeat optimistic person, but i feel like life is such a gift and every day i'm here as long as i can be and i'm going to keep doing stuff and be out there for people. >> absolutely. that's awesome. >> have you these runs coming up people can take part in. one in milwaukee at greenfield park and one in madison on the 25th at mckey farms park. the wisconsin ovarian cancer

welcome back. sometimes there isn't an obvious reason to sell your house, but many people report nagging feeling that something isn't working. so today, how to know when it's the right time to sell your house and look for a new one. >> rachel equitable bank she is here with a check list so you can figure that out. great to see you. >> nice to see you too. >> i think a lot of people are like i kind of have this feeling. it might be time to really pick up. >> it is one of those things you're not quite sure. it's a big decision. it kind of nags at you for a while. >> that goldy locks thing too. it can be too big it can be too small. let's talk about that space maybe too small and you can't
9:17 am
before you had children or had different space needs and now the house is too small and it doesn't make sense or you can't renovate. >> uh-huh. >> on the flip side of it, being too small, can you have too much space you need to downsize. >> absolutely. do you have a bunch of rooms, that you just close off so you don't have to clean them every week. are you cleaning all of this space that no one is using? that's when you really do know. maybe it's time to get a little smaller. >> you hear people say that a t >> it is yeah. and your life changes. maybe you have a large family and you have all of these kids in the house and you need all of this room and now they are off to college or wherever, it doesn't make sense for you to be in a large four or five bedroom house. >> think if you live in your house even for a little while you dream of remodeling. from the time you move in. sometimes remodeling doesn't make sense for your house. that might be a reason to move right? >> so maybe there are different things you want in your house, but it doesn't make sense for
9:18 am
you kind of look at the neighborhood you're in, what other houses are like in your neighborhood. if you are going to put in $100,000 kitchen, but every house in your neighborhood has a 30 to $50,000 kitchen, you are probably not going to get that money out so it probably doesn't make sense and maybe that is a sign it is time to move. >> neighborhood in general could be a big reason to move too. you might want a different school district or something like that right? >> absolutely. maybe the neighborhood worked for you because you didn't have kids and it was really walkable and soat these bars and restaurants. and now maybe you have three children and bars and restaurants aren't on your plate anymore. [laughter] >> more like the pajamas and your couch. [laughter] >> or running to soccer practice. so maybe the neighborhood just doesn't work for you anymore. and that's really a sign as well. >> uh-huh. you have some money to prep your home for sale. i think it is you're going to get more for it if you have a little cash set aside or money you can tap into to make nice improvements before you sell.
9:19 am
renovations, but you are going to want to do things like maybe painting, certainly fix things that are broken. replace faucets or light fixtures that maybe are dated. you want to have a little money set aside so you can do those things that make as huge difference for selling your house. it is not like you have to have tens of thousands of dollars put away. you do want to be smart about it and understand you are going to have to put a little investment in so you can back. >> is now a good time to sell? >> it's a great time to sell. rates are still really low. there are a lot of buyers on the market looking for houses. so, it's a great time to put your house on the market. i think you will find in most neighborhoods they are selling really quick. >> add to the inventory because the inventory always seems to be low. >> it still is low. there are still a lot of people with preapprovals from the equitable bank in hand looking for that house. >> that house that is right across from the bar.
9:20 am
[laughter] >> and there is great contest starting today too right between the equitable bank and a partnership with today's tmj4. >> i'm super excited about this it's called pay my mortgage. we're sponsoring it with tmj4. we're going to give one lucky winner six months of their mortgage paid for free. >> what do you have to do to be part of the contest? >> you will want to visit tmj4.com or go to their facebook page. or go to the we can we can website enter there. who doesn't want their mortgage paid. >> especially if you are think being paying for college or buying a new house. go to today's tmj4.com to find out more about that contest or visit the equitable bank if you want preapproval that's a great place to check into too. call (414)777-4411 or the equitable bank.com is the website. always great to see you rachel.
9:21 am
winner in october. after the break meet a group of women on a mission. we'll tell you how they are making difference in
9:22 am
9:23 am
the group named 100 women who care had its first meeting ten years in michigan.
9:24 am
$13,000 in less than an hour. their mission was to supply cribs for new moms. >> that's incredible. that group now has chapters all over the world including a nun one right here in wisconsin. today, who they are helping now and how you can join their mission. jane condon is an organizer of 100 women who care milwaukee metro west and ann harrington the executive director of anne's hope foundation the group benefiting this quarter from the work that they are doing. great to see both of you. >> thank you so much. >> an impressive start to put some women together and to thin? that in less than an hour they can raise almost $13,000. >> it's a very interesting concept. we try to use the power of numbers can every woman contributing $100 we can generate $10,000 for the local charities. >> what is the mission for you
9:25 am
together for for one hour a group of 100 women and every one donates $100 to a local charity. we're emphasizing and considering valuing the women's time and our meetings are held in one hour. we're emphasizing choosing groups the way that the charities are selected is any member can nominate a charity. and, three nominations are chosen at random. after a brief presentation, the nominating member talks a little bit about that charity and then, the women present have a chance to vote for one charity to support. >> and make a selection. >> what i think is wonderful about what you do is that it is not always the same charity. you are kind of sharing this
9:26 am
awareness and support different charities in the community. >> right, yes. we're learning about a lot of different charities in our area and we want to keep the money locally. >> that's wonderful. >> talk about anne's hope foundation and where this charity donation will go for you guys? >> so the foundation started by myself and another ann in 2005 because we lost loved ones to melanoma cancer. we strictly fund melanoma research and community on the risks of melanoma and skin cancer. and we were very blessed and fortunate to be a recipient of a $10,000 gift from their group and, we support locally medical college of wisconsin and, we just wrote a check to them a month ago for $75,000 and we have given away over $1 million and i would say, think it was $515,000 of that has been to medical college of wisconsin.
9:27 am
is seed grant money and it is research that would not be happening if there were not philanthropic dollars supporting that. the government keeps flashing we all know slashing funds for cancer research so, we're able to fund aroject that may never start that could inevitably end up being a cure for melanoma so. >> do you have this sense with maybe reports or research you're familiar with that it is making a difference? >> it when my brother was diagnosed 12 years ago, there are things happening today that he would have been able to you know participate in clinical trials that didn't exist 12 years ago and now 12 years later people are living longer, there are more options and opportunities so, you know we really believe in research being the key to finding a cure. >> wonderful. >> i know you are looking to add a few women to your group. women can join your mission.
9:28 am
october, october 4 and we meet at owe donohue's irish pub in elm grove. we would really like to acknowledge and thank them for their support. they are our chosen venue for this year. we may need to look for another venue in the future if our numbers get up to the 100. >> that's a good thing though right? >> you have to go somewhere because you're getting too big. that would be wonderful because you have 72 members and you are hoping to get to 100? >> we would like to partner again with a local restaur t be able to combine our business and a little social time before and after our meetings. >> that's wonderful. fantastic. people can attend any woman is welcome to attend the next meeting. >> we start at 6:00 and we are out by 7:00. if they would like to come early and get a glass of wine or stay afterwards and have a sandwich it's a really nice opportunity for women to meet others in the community that want to make a difference. >> socialize i love your mission.
9:29 am
this is the milwaukee metro west group. the next meeting is tuesday october 4 from 6:00 to 7:00. any meeting that only lasts an hour i'm there right? >> and only four times a year. >> exactly. that's at o donohue's pub in elm grove. we have the website there too. thanks ladies. still ahead healthy ways to get your family up and going in the morning. and if have you a topic you would like us to talk about

9:32 am
for a long time the only way to get rid of dark circles under the eyes was through makeup. linda mckinsey is hereit plexaderm. on the screen we're starting a realtime demonstration of this product so you can see how fast it actually works. welcome to the morning blend. >> great to see you thank you. >> i love things like this. my mom has really bad bags very puffy it's a genetic kind of thing. they are dark, puffy. this is a product that works for that. >> it's very exciting. i have learned since i learned about plexaderm why that happens. some people have it some don't. why is that? you are right it is genetic a lot of other things that occur. not enough sleep, too much salt
9:33 am
you get rid of that? doesn't matter moisturizer or makeup if it is it there it is there. the exciting thing about plexaderm it brings the moisture to the top of skin and gets rid of bags and lines. >> we have amazing and stunning before and afters as well. so how long, you apply this pow and how long before you are see these kinds of results? >> absolutely this is my favorite one. this took ten minutes. >> wow stunning. >> you just dab itn concentrated you just need a dab. same thing the lines the dark circles all different kinds of skin conditions. clean dry skin within minutes it works. ten minutes tops. maybe dry your hair brush your teeth. the important thing about plexaderm you want it to go on the clean dry skin to let it do its work. >> so not over your makeup under your makeup. >> it's the first thing you want to do to let it do its work. then you can add your moisturizer and makeup those are
9:34 am
so the great thing about this we tell people, stay away from any moisturizers with oils because we don't want to dilute it. we do offer serum if there are people that aren't sure what kind of moisturizer they have. if they want to they don't have to. >> first or second? >> second. this always is first. we want clean dry skin we want it to get to your skin and do its work. pulling moisture to the surface and tightening it. that's how the bags or wrinkles go away. pulls it make it is nice and tight. so instead of going to the doctor's office worrying about the injections or making appointments the cool thing is you can do it from home and it lasts all day long. >> that's fantastic. it takes up to ten minutes to work. lasts all day long. no injection no doctor visit this is just something you order and you use. you use it every day? >> yeah it has taken a while to formulate this. they use the shell from clay rock right and --
9:35 am
there that's the clay rock. >> that's the clay rock. we just want people to understand that's the big question how is this different? how does this work? that's what that does. that's why are you getting the combination of the moisture to the surface while it is tightening the skin. the exciting thing put it on first thing go about your business, we say ten minutes tops. it dust last all day long. it's a temporary fix, but it is nice can you do it first thing in the morning and not have to worry about it the rest of the day. >> so much the before and afters are so circles as well. when you look at this she looks or he had, i can't even tell there, looks like they literal literallyhave gotten another 12f sleep. >> wasn't you to look nice and natural and look like you, but a better you. we want you to see what it looks like through the process the minute you futon you can feel it start working which is really nice. that tingingle feeling of okay it is happening. then you watch that.
9:36 am
the lines the bags it's exciting to watch that happen. >> women do a lot of these products, but there is a lot of men that love the product as well. women you can give it to the guys, but can guys give it to the women? >> maybe. if are you a guy, and you don't want a lot of fuss, but you are worried about that put this on you don't need a moisturizer which is excite being that too which i love. of course you can use moisturizer. i think that is a important distinction you don't have to worry about any other prep work or think about it. if you are a guy it is concentrated put a little dab under your eye clean dry skin that's the only thing you have to think about. >> can you use it on wrinkles or other places? >> anyplace you would like filled or have the moisturizer. the crows feet, the lines on the foreheads the bags are the important distinction because it goes away. >> forehead lines. >> all of those things. >> i love you. all right i can't wait.
9:37 am
the end after ten minutes i just think to look at his eyes completely different. he looks like a different man. >> he is a whole different man. i want to say we asked him not to smile he is happy guy. we want you to see what that looks like the same before and after. it's a completely different face we want you to look like you only better. >> plexaderm right now you can get and the moisturizer serum 40% off, plus buy two get the third free. so you can gift it to someone. just say it is something you thought they would love. plexaderm.com is the website for more of those dramatic amazing stunning results can be yours
