10:04 am
the end of the college tour. we were at u.c. boulder, which is lovely. fantastic. then we went to u.t. austin. longhorns. and that was spectacular. and the only reason why i'm rooting for u.t. austin besides the fact that the moody college of communications is spectacular, as is the usc school of journalism, but has franklin barbecue. >> so you'll visit your child, then you go eat at franklin's? >> yes. >> for those who don't know, al roker has like a special table at franklin's. you have to stand in line -- true story. you go to franklin's. they don't care who you are. celebrity. you could be anybody. you've got to stand in this line which they have a card and they give it to the last person and it is called the last man standing. unless you know al roker. and then they take you in the back and they have this secret
10:05 am
>> listen, there are planes. i can still go. >> are you willing to reveal your real choice? i know you don't want to go just because of franklin's. >> to be honest, wherever she wants to go. wherever she gets in. it's not like she can in anywhere. but she's literally looked coast to coast. >> i wonder when you have a whole week with your daughter. like i can take my parents and my father-in-law for three days. that's a gets on everybody's nerves. was it beautiful? did it grow the whole time? >> we had a great time. like we were in boulder. i posted this. there was a spa that had a sign in the window, "breast milk facials." >> what? >> "breast milk facials." >> are you sure you read it right? >> uh, yeah. uh, yeah.
10:06 am
legal? >> we'll pull that one up. >> you were hanging out at the beyonce concert? >> i told you, my daughter wanted to go to beyonce. i told her tickets are too expensive. you're going to find a way it o get that money. she went and sold lemonade at a lemonade stand. she and her buddy went to the beyonce concert. notice that my wife spent probably double that on tour jackets and hats. >> they look like they could be sisters. >> they do. >> that's lilly and her buddy, chloe. >> she scored big with the beyonce attire. >> i think she sold the lemonade to pay for the ticket but something tells me it's at least seven times that at the end of this. but i'm not going to ask -- >> don't ask. >> don't ask, don't tell. by the way, just wanted to show you -- >> breast milk facial? oh, no.
10:07 am
the emmys were last night. "game of thrones" and "veep" repeated as best drama and best comedy. julia louis-dreyfus is on some role. she blended the political and the poignant in her acceptance speech. >> our show started out as a political satire, but it now feels more like a sobering documentary. so i certainly do promise to rebuild that mexico pay for it. lastly, i'd like to dedicate this to my father, willie louis-dreyfus who passed away on friday. and i'm so glad that he liked "veep" because his opinion was the one that really mattered. thank you. >> wow. don't think anyone saw that. didn't know. >> there was a moment earlier in
10:08 am
won for "snl" and they took a shot of julia louis-dreyfus and she had this odd look on her face. it is so obvious know that she was probably thinking about her dad and things. it was just an unfortunate moment. but what a poignant speech. >> it was. and we love her so much. someone else i fell in love with last night, jimmy kimmel. i've been a fan, i've watched from time to time. but i ran home to watch his performance. as you know, it is a performance. he did a veryoo there are obviously hits and misses. one of the big moments, his mom coming out with 7,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with hand-written notes. ellen did pizzas. but it wasn't 7,000. wasn't a parent involved. then you have joe -- >> it was cute because they had stranger things cast. all kids. my daughters loved these guys. that was cute. i don't know -- i think there's no you a tradition because chris rock followed it up with giving
10:09 am

10:10 am
>> what about jeb bush? >> high point of the night for me. >> limine driver in a skit. >> wow. what's that like? >> it's nice. >> you think you can win? >> there is a lot of competition. and probably not. >> here's what i know. if you run a positive campaign, the voters ultimately will make the right choice. >> you know, funny you say that, my psychic -- >> jimmy, that was a joke. get out and slave that wig off your face, you godless hollywood hippie. jeb exclamation point. >> that was awesome. he's a good actor. >> i thought he was going to follow that up with some announcement today he was running independent. nobody, he nor his brother endorsed the donald. >> reince priebus came out with a statement people better get behind the republican nominee.
10:11 am
about it. >> the last moment is matt damon. of course jimmy and matt damon have a long running feud. they celebrate each other's misery as often as possible. did this one work? >> i missed the last category. did you win? >> no, we didn't win. all right? >> that's a bummer. >> the emmy for -- >> that makes a lot of but it's -- you must be really bummed out. >> yeah, i'm a little disappointed. thank you. >> so you're not going to get a trophy. >> no, i don't get a trophy then. are you finished? you done? >> wait. who did get a trophy? who won? >> john oliver. he was just out here. what do you mean who won? >> yes! yes! yes. i'm sorry. i mean you lost and now you got
10:12 am
everybody. that's really -- no. i mean when you probably just want to go home and curl up and cry. >> it doesn't matter what we think because they had a cut-away shock of chris rock and jerry seinfeld laughing. up next, what everyone really cares about -- the emmy fashion. we've got the good, the bad, and somebody i think fell asleep in a tanning booth. we have the why let someone else have all the fun? phazard, never boring ...fun. the why can't it smell like this all the time ...fun. the learning the virtue of sharing ...fun. why let someone else have all the fun? that's no fun. it's baking season. warm up with pillsbury.
10:13 am
but there's so much more to it. here's how benefiber? works. inside each of us are trillions of good microflora that support good digestive health. the prebiotic fiber in benefiber? nourishes them so they can thrive. and what helps them, helps you and me every day. clear, taste-free, all natural benefiber? nourish the goodness inside. someone you know is carrying all natural ground beef. yeah, that's right. there's only one way to know how good it tastes. try it at walmart's low prices. sweet sun ripened strawberries. no artificial flavors. philadelphia? strawberry. rich..., creamy... ...and delicious. nothing else tastes like philadelphia?
10:14 am
and now with victoza? a better moment of proof. victoza? lowers my a1c and blood sugar better than the leading branded pill, which didn't get me to my goal. lowers my a1c better than the leading branded injectable. the one i used to take. (jim) victoza? lowers blood sugar in three ways. and while it isn't for weight loss, non-insulin victoza? comes in a pen and is taken once a day. (announcer vo) victoza? is not recommended as the first medication to treat diabetes and is not for people with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. do not take victoza? if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2, or if you are allergic to victoza? or any of its ingredients. stop taking victoza? and call your doctor right away if you get a lump or swelling in your neck or if you develop any allergic symptoms

breathing. serious side effects may happen, including pancreatitis. so, stop taking victoza? and call your doctor right away if you have severe pain in your stomach area. tell your doctor your medical history. taking victoza? with a sulfonylurea or insulin may cause low blood sugar. the most common side effects are headache, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. side effects can lead to dehydration, which may cause kidney problems. now's the time for a better moment of proof. ask your doctor about victoza?. back now with more of today's take. let's talk fashion. beginning with the good, kerry washington, everybody agrees, a black strapless gown by brandon maxwell with some cutouts right beneath the bust. what do we think? >> that was beyond good. that was great. "kerry washington is giving me diana ross moments."
10:16 am
but walking. it was stunning. stunning! >> speaking of diana ross. >> yeah. tracy ellis ross, custom ralph lauren collection. white cutout as well. just -- >> you say a custom single shoulder silk governing council with hand-pleated and hand-draped silk chiffon overlay. a home run, no question about about it. >> that's magic, tracy you are magic. >> i like that one-shoulder. >> it is a flattering cut. i know women are sometimes afraid of you but it does hit you on what are most body types -- i mean a range of body types -- a really beautiful area of the woman just in here. it looks really sexy. put a little bronzer right there? boom. >> what about sara paulson in prada. al, you are a man who likes a plunging neckline. >> but i usually like it on you.
10:17 am
>> isn't it nice? >> a lot going on. >> j. loesque from way back. i liked rami malek. >> not a lot of men can wear that skinny suit. matt lauer can. billy with your thighs? jimmy's now slimmer build than he had traditionally been. >> he in hollywood you can never have too much money or be too thin. that's what they say. what about amy poehler? this is falling into the category, people maybe didn't love. >> her body, she has an amazing figure but this doesn't do her any justice. i'm not crazy about the color. but she did something different than we've seen at the golden globes. the cape is nice.
10:18 am
out in -- she has an amazing body. it just doesn't show off her silhouette as much. >> anna had a baby two months ago. i don't think this number is as bad -- the cape -- if the cape was gone. >> i would go out on the line and say i actually like it. >> i don't see what the problem is. >> the color -- you've been there on the red carpet, billy. there are certain dresses that look so great in person and they don't photograph well. a lot of the stylists -- now they take a picture of you before you hit the red carpet to see how it photographs. i bet you that was much prettier in person. >> looks fine to me. >> looks expensive. what about claire danes? mood immediately when i say her went -- whoa! heavy on the tan. it is a little orange right there -- >> what? >> i think our monitor isn't doing it as much justice as -- >> there was -- >> she's a pale-skinned beautiful --
10:19 am
>> that picture looks fine to me. >> sometimes the once over, the twice over -- >> they went for the st. tropez. remember that commercial? >> we had a quick little moment here on friday. corey feldman gave us a performance. it's gone viral. you both were gone. >> i've heard about it. >> i want you to see a little bit of what's going on here. this is corey's performance with his angels. >> he brought angels? >> yeah. ?? ? they try to put you down they put you on the ground ? ? they leave you lying there though they don't make a sound ?? >> what genre music is this? >> edm. >> there's been a ton of backlash. corey's responded strongly. people are teasing him. according to "people" magazine, he talked to -- they're bullying him like crazy, a weirdo, a freak. one thing that's nice, someone
10:20 am
superstar pink said, well, i love ya, corey. i know how much it takes to get up there and do your thing. keep your head up and know that you're loved. >> you don't have to pile on somebody. >> and you don't have to be so nasty. you can say what was that? but to bully him, he's out there performing. you don't like it, you don't like it. the level of aggression. i thought about you, too. a couple of tweets just watching the emmys. like the level of aggression regarding someone's just dres choice is insane! it is amazing. come back, corey.
10:21 am
>> that's your latest weather. up next, we loved him as tule on hbo's "entourage." you won't believe what jerry ferrera's very first job was out in los angeles. he'll rev scalpel. i have no idea what i'm doing. i'm just a tv doctor. i never went to college. "or something"? you don't just graduate from medical school,

federal resources here to help as needed. we're going to make sure that everybody is working together seamlessly as one team to get to the bottom of what happened, to
10:27 am
make sure that justice is done. meanwhile, while was this was going on in new york and new jersey, we're also focused on the stabbing attack at the shopping mall in minnesota. at this point we see no connection between that incident and what happened here in new york and new jersey. our attention there is on the people who were injured. again, we are very grateful that no one lost their life. thanks to the quick action of a brave off-duty police officer,
10:28 am
federal, state and local law enforcement are working together around the clock to prevent attacks and to keep us safe. they are the best. over the years they've thwarted many plots and saved many lives and we are incredibly grateful for their service today and every single day. we will continue to lead the coalition in the fight against isil which is instigating a lot of people over the internet to carry out attacks. we are going to continue to go after them. we're going to take out their leaders. we're going to take out their infrastructure. they are continuing to lose ground in iraq and in syria and later today i'll be meeting with prime minister abattie of iraq
10:29 am
as we take away more of their territory, it exposes isil as the failed cause that it is. and it helps to undermine their ideology which, over time, will make it harder for them to recruit and inspire people to violence. and we're going to continue to enlist tech companies and community and religious leaders to push back against online extremist content and all messages of hate. you know, at think it is important to remember what terrorists and violent extremists are trying to do. they are trying to hurt innocent people, but they also want to inspire fear in all of us and disrupt the way we live, to undermine our values. and so even as we have to be vigilant and aggressive, both in preventing senseless acts of violence but also making sure we find those who carry out such
10:30 am
we all have a role to play as citizens in making sure that we don't succumb to that fear. there is no better example of that than the people of new york and new jersey. when i was speaking to governor cuomo and governor christie and mayor de blasio, one point that they all made is, you know, folks around here, they don't get scared. they're tough. they're resilient. they go aboutir every single day. and that kind of toughness and resoluteness and the recognition that neither individuals, nor organizations like isil can ultimately undermine our way of life. that's the kind of strength that makes me so proud to be an american and that's the kind of strength that is going to be

years to come. by showing those that want to do us harm that they will never beat us, by showing the entire world that as americans we have not and never will give in to fear. that's going to be the most important ingredient defeating those who would carry out terrorist acts against us. thank you very much, everybody. as i said, you will be receiving, i'm sure, ongoing briefings from the fbi and local details of the investigation. >> president obama here in new york for the u.n. general assembly meeting. i want to get right to our nbc justice correspondent, pete williams. if you noticed on the bottom of your screen, we do have some breaking news as that press conference was happening. pete, what do we know? >> reporter: i'm not even sure the president was aware of this, kate, as he was speaking. we are told by several law

federal level ahmad rahami was captured near apparently where he was living in new jersey and where those pipe bombs were found and detonated this morning. we're told that some time between 10:30 and 11:00 there was a shoot-out between rahami, who's seen here in a still picture that new jersey police say was from one of the survei york bombing scenes. they say he was in a shoot-out with police in linden, new jersey. a short time later they called for the bomb squad. he was apparently wounded in that shooting and has been taken to a nearby hospital. we don't know his condition. but this is breathtakingly fast here, kate. just this morning at about, oh, 7:30 or so, the police made his name public after they'd been searching for him from the
10:33 am
multiple evidence. timing devices on the flip phones had numbers that police were able to follow through on. then the surveillance video. all of these things added together led to him. after they couldn't find him after searching his house, questioning members of his family, they decided to make his name public, and less than three hours later he was involved shoot-out with police. and three and a half hours later he was in custody. so an astonishingly fast development here, kate. >> remarkable how quickly this is all moving. the pictures that we're showing are all of the same individual now in custody. pete, do your sources, law enforcement, think there might be others vord or are they fairly convinced this is the sole person behind these incidents over the weekend? >> that is unknown to them. of course they believe he is involved. as to whether others are
10:34 am
they don't know whether this is all the work of one person, whether someone else was involved. they just don't know that. >> all right, pete williams following all of this for us. pete, thanks so much. we will of course have much more on this developing quick-moving story throughout the day. you can find us on msnbc, on nbcnews.com. a full wrap-up tonight with lester holt on "nbc nightly news." i'm kate snow in new york.

five-ingredient meals to make dinner time as easy as possible. owner of spoon and table in minneapolis, a spectacular restaurant. a healthy dish you can make tonight in no-time flat. let's get started. we've got our fish, some ginger, some garlic, scallions, your yuzu, butter, oil. >> it's all there. >> we're going to say salt, pepper, butter, free ingredients. >> we're going to use red snapper today. you could use trout, salmon, cod. this vinaigrette is very simple to make. it is something that's great not just for fish. chicken, steak. get the pan very hot and char the scallions. >> you are using grapeseed oil? >> it is a higher smoking point. literally want to burn as much as i can the scallions and
10:40 am
the good thing with the scallions, the burn you burn it, the sweeter that's going to get. as that starts to char, you kind of see this here. that's been grilled. we'll just chop everything up. >> you eat the little fuzzy things? >> oh, yeah. keep it on there. there is no reason to do a dice or anything like that. just chop it up. this is kind of the base. i like to have the texture of this because to me this is the whole point of why this vinaigrette is really delicious in some so scallions are going to go in. as that's sort of going around, add some yuzu. >> what is yuzu? >> it is a japanese citrus. lemon and lime married together. if you don't have it. little bit of lemon, little bit of lime. sesame oil. some chopped garlic. some chopped ginger.
10:41 am
>> you can use low sodium if you want. >> exactly. grape a little bit more grapeseed oil. go ahead. you don't have to do the emulsification. you don't have to whisk it. this is really, really simple. then we'll start to come over here with the fish. this is the snapper. typically, i don't like to season the skin side. >> really. >> i just do the flesh side. if you add skin side it takes the moisture out so it tends to give you a less crispy skin. i know billy loves this crispy skin. >> on chicken the skin is very fattening. is it? >> no. >> let it out. >> this is going to cook really fast. >> this is going to cook quick. get it nice and crispy. put it down.
